My nephew and sister-in-law have covid. My nephew is not vaccinated. He's 15 or 16. My SIL got vaccinated a week ago. So no time for it to take effect.

My wife is very worried but I'm like, dumb fucks. No pity. Unvaccinated kid gets sent to school with no mask in fuck NEBRASKA?!? Dumb, dumb, dumb.

People at work are quitting due to vax mandate...including the guy who I secretly bought my weed and shrooms from? Like bro you're a drug dealer...like people put a lot of faith in you that what you sell is what we expect but you can't pass that faith on to actual drug companies?

Sorry about your hookup.

A Twitter thread talking about how we got to humans eating animal de-wormer:

The short version is: the same people who touted hydroxychloro-whatever, "America's Frontline Doctors", are also the people promoting ivermectin. They promoted it heavily on social media, and set up tele-health "doctors" who made it easy (but not cheap!) for people to get prescriptions. When supplies of human medication ran low, the rubes desperate for snake oil started buying veterinary drugs. And yes, they literally eat the paste meant for animals, on toast with jam.

It's an old fashioned scam using high tech distribution. Social media and tele-health instead of a wagon rolling into town, but it's still selling the same ol' snake oil "miracle" cures.

I know the US can be ridiculously litigious, but these are the people that really deserve to be sued into oblivion. Not because the victims shouldn't have some responsibility in this, but scammers gonna scam unless they get hit where it really matters: in the wallet.

Most of the touting I'm being forwarded by relatives comes from the "Front Line Covid Critical Care Alliance" or FLCCC, which is not mentioned in that thread. My own brief search shows they are basically comprised of three "rogue" doctors who don't think controlled randomized trials are needed.... while most of the medical community considers CRTs the basis of all scientific drug development.

Average for European countries, according to the replies on that thread.
Yup. Belgium's current numbers are comparable. We're inching closer back to a red zone by EU definition, but most of the country is doing OK.
In Flanders we're now at 91% vaccinated over age 18,somewhere in the seventies for 12-18. And while our numbers of infected and positive tests are still too high, our hospital grid is doing fine (non-essential service is going on as normal) and deaths are low. Vaccinated people do still get infected and, on occasion, sick - but they're about 1/20th as likely to be hospitalized allé even less likely to have to be intubated.

...he didn’t want to be part of COVID-19 statistics, the publication reported, so he self-treated with Ivermectin, Vitamin C, zinc aspirin and an inhaler. Soon, he had no choice but to seek medical treatment and was hospitalized.
Okay well thanks to his volunteer efforts, we now at least know that none of these are successful cures for the disease.

Unvaccinated Covid patients should be the lowest priority for hospitals and should be removed from whatever treatment to make room for someone else if needed.

This should not surprise anyone, but areas that voted for Biden have higher vaccination rates, and are doing better economically because of it.

I read an article that compiled CDC data with similar outcomes in the link@figmentPez posted. It breaks down like this:

Or if you want to see it broken down by state, click here.

We have been handling things okay here in the Austin area, but part of that is because very few local people are actually listening to Abbot right now. It's always a mix, sadly, as depending on where you go you can enter a place where everyone is masked only to go a mile down the road where no one is masking, but at least my sons school is mandating masks for students and teachers regardless of what anyone else says. It at least helps me feel he is protected, as he is too young to get a vaccine yet. My daughter is going to a private kindergarten connected to a nearby church, and they said masking is going to be 100% required, so that's good.

As an aside, I often found some morbid fascination while going over to r/LeopardsAteMyFace/ and seeing reports about right wing radio hosts, pastors, activists, etc, are all dying from COVID after complaining for a year about masks and vaccines. Yesterday though, one of those posts leads me to r/HermanCainAward/ which is literally people posting stories of their facebook friends / relatives spending ages posting anti-mask / anti-vax / Q / etc memes and copypasta only to get COVID, often beg for prayers, and more often then not die. One of the most painful stories was a woman that spent the last year trashing Dr. Fauci, Biden, spewing things about microchips, NWO, all the usual stuff, only to get COVID with her husband. Went to the hospital for over a month, husband does not survive, she is the only survivor of around seventeen COVID patients that entered her hospital ICU alongside her. Likely going to have long covid or scars. It just makes me sad and angry. On the bright side, there are a few posts flared "Redemption" because now and then you get that one person that, after suffering and barely survived, finally tells people to wear your masks and go get vaccinated. If only it was not so rare.

r/LeopardsAteMyFace is great for schadenfreude and oh so often you see people get a comeuppance they so richly deserve... But you do still end up with a lot of people's faces being eaten, which is a real shame.

MIL went to hospital today after hiding she'd been having a hard time breathing for the last week. Went in a few hours later to feed the dogs (masked up) and found this in there. I know she wasn't well enough to go to the tractor supply to get it herself so either
A) AFLD sent it to her or
B) her son picked it up and dropped it off

Like what the fuck do we do? Hide it while they're in the hospital? This could literally kill them.

Keeping the dewormer here but not destroying it for now. If they come banging on my door they can fuckin' have it but until then I'm going to act like it doesn't exist.

FIL is coming home today for some reason. Since MIL just went to the hospital a few hours ago and will most likely be there a few days it's up to my wife to take care of her Dad and stay down there for a bit. I can't go down because I still have to go to work and can't get exposed. I just threw some things together and dropped them off at in-laws house while Wife went to pick up her dad.

Brother in law offered to take care of them but he's not vaxed and almost certainly got them the horse paste so...no.

And if I need to take a different thread for my venting about this stuff that's fine. Kinda feel like I've been hogging the thread. Just let me know.

This girl I've known since she was this age (and I was this skinny) has come down with covid :(

Apologies for the quality. The pic is a screen shot from a video that was originally taken on a camcorder on tape. That's how long I've known her.

Bonus sadness: That guy in the background is the friend of mine I posted about who died a couple years ago :(

In other news, I'm taking part in science

My first blood draw was a few days ago. I have good vaccine antibody counts, and zero natural infection antibody counts, which means that that severe respiratory thing I had going on in feb 2020 was probably not covid.

I’m guessing it started around when Herman Cain died but it didn’t feel as right to mock people as it does now that covid deaths are almost 100% preventable in the US with minimal effort.

I was in the same store as a confirmed case yesterday, so today as a precautionary measure I'm going to be working from home.

On the one hand, being exposed like this is worrying.

On the other hand, it's kinda cool that Taiwan has gone back to being able to track each individual active case and announce where they've been, so that people can respond accordingly.

Ohio Judge Orders Hospital to Treat COVID Patient With Deworming Drug Ivermectin

This is so fucking stupid. The patient's wife and the quack doctor she found should both be tried for murder if the guy dies.

--

Judge reverses decision, will allow unvaccinated mom to see her son after all, mom's attorney says

Well, this is going to be one of those headlines where people talk about the original decision for months or years, and hardly anyone notes the reversal of the decision. "But they're taking away our children!" No, they're not. They want to protect children from stupidity, but they can't because free-dumbs.
