Other than a few token soldiers (preferably black or Muslim or refusing for religious non-Christian reasons) this will not have much of an impact. I mean, yeah, if you want to get rid of a few minority soldiers, this is definitely the way. Anecdotal, I know, but the people least likely to have gotten the vaccine that walk into our dental clinic are minority patients. I know the white karen-type of person is the one that people like to bash (and feel no shame in doing so) and pretend are the kind of people not getting the vaccine, but the data does not match that perception.
Belgium recently released numbers on returnees and their Covid-infected numbers. Despite being the "hot spots" and having vacationers who went there pretty much ostracized from polite society, Spain and Portugal and Greece have about 2% of people coming back turning out to be infected. Morocco is #1 at a little over 11% positive tests. This is in large part because vaccination % in the Muslim community is far lower than among most other groups (more conservative, more insular, less trust in science, poorer, less-educated, less-informed,...) and also because the behavior is different - most people going to Morocco are Moroccan Belgians (or vice versa) visiting family and friends....Where rules aren't followed closely, while vacationers to Spain etc tend to be younger people going to nightclubs, who have far higher vaccination rates, and when going out in hotels, restaurants, etc, they tend to be at least somewhat wary and careful.
Of course these explainable differences which may warrant specific action and specific policy with regards to different types of vacations and different communities have now been weaponized by the racists and so on and so forth. It's hard to point out something bad is happening to a minority group without making it about them being "that" minority group, but ugh.
I had a discussion with someone on the idea of the vaccine having tracking chips or something in them. Which is a ridiculous notion.
They countered with the fact that there's a chip shortage in the world right now and it's because they're all going into the vaccines. Ugh.

Love to know how they only manage to get one chip in the syringe for each dose. Whoever trained those people needs to train the phlebotomists that miss veins I can see from the outside.

New York State has an app that can track vaccination status, but only of people who got their vaccines in New York. Which is generally fine where I live, but if you're unfamiliar with the geography of New York City, it's very close to two other states and there are plenty of people who got vaccinated somewhere else. So the City is trying to make a new app that works for New York City somehow but is different than the state app.
And this whole time I'm genuinely amazed (though not too surprised) that we don't have a freaking federal vaccine tracker.

Y'know, I can understand people being desperate and wanting to try whatever might work. I can understand wanting to take hydrocychloroquin, or ivermectin these days. I do understand.

What I don't understand is both at the same time. "No, I won't take the vaccine! It's bio-engineered to make is gay and socialist and for tracking us through microchips! Oh, hey, horse poop pills, these'll do nicely, this'll save me! *gobble*".
What kind of mental illness has to be going on to have such a cognitive dissonance inside your own head?
I can understand people being hesitant about using a vaccine or drug that hasn't proven effective, that may have unknown side effects. I do understand.

FIL taken to the hospital today. He's going to stay overnight at the least and is on oxygen. MIL finally got seen as well and is hopefully getting some treatment.
My wife is going back and forth from angry to afraid. I don't blame her and wish I could comfort her but I don't want to tell her that everything is going to be okay when I honestly don't think that.

FIL doing a bit better. Got moved to a normal room from the ER so that's good I think. They talked to America Frontline Doctors which is apparently some quack organization so they're sending MIL hydrocloriquin or whatever it's called and other stuff that she doesn't need. I'm so worried that these fucking meds that shouldn't be prescribed might fuck things up. I sent her a link about not trusting them but I dont know of it'll help.
