Minor victory thread

I'm going to finally meet up with someone I'm somewhat directly related to tomorrow afternoon! My youngest maternal cousin is in town to visit with her husband's family, and we're going to do lunch.

This is only minor because... well, my mom's side of the family has been fragmented for some time now.

Thin crust pizza is marginally "healthier" than regular, and way better per 2 slices than a burger. I deserve *something* decent today. I was strongly considering just sleeping the weekend away to keep from spending money.

The car repairs I'd been holding out on for months due to lack of funds? The vibration was out of balance tires. The grinding on the right front? Bent shield.

NO CHARGE.

Posting in minor because I still need to pick up the car and give it a shakedown drive to be sure. But the random number generator being in my favor doesn't always mean cash. :D

So this will be one of the weirdest minor victories ever.

Four years ago I broke a tooth in a moshpit during an Avenged Sevenfold concert. On my 50th birthday. I was probably the oldest dude there by 30+ years and I was killing it. No, I didn't take my shirt off. But I was grinding and pushing and slamming with all the youngins'. (Except this one guy who looked like the Techno Viking - dude was HUGE! I never took him on.)

Anyway, when I say I BROKE my tooth that's kind of incorrect. As I was leaving the pit a guy got pushed into me from behind, which caused me to lurch forward, where my #12 incisor got pushed back all the way to the roof of my mouth. It hurt but I got over the pain far faster than I got over the fear of seeing a dentist. And there it sat. Until last night.

Last night I was drinking a bottle of water and I dropped the bottle. The plastic on the rim of the bottle grabbed my tooth and shoved it back into place! It's now perfectly straight and flush with the other teeth like it hadn't been in hiding for the last 4 years. I've eaten since then and it didn't budge.

Reminded us of the little girl from Christmas Vacation.

This reminds me of when I was in high school, and had braces to fix an underbite and while practicing a helicopter throw for color guard I smacked myself in the face (don't look up when you're doing a helicopter toss kids) and knocked my teeth the rest of the way in to position without breaking a single bracket. :p

Part win, part whine. Vision insurance from work kicked in, and the money that had been set aside for car repairs went to wards a long, long overdue eye exam.

I've crossed another "old" threshold. Bifocals. Should be in in about 2 weeks. Free pair with the distance only prescription was ready in about 15 minutes.

Oh... possibility of cataracts. Will need to check at the next exam in about a year. And no delaying it for three, four, FIVE years this time.

No cataract surgery for the Daveman. In fact, my prescription hardly changed at all. That means that my dizzy spells were brought on by the severely impacted ear wax. Good to know.

Dear Dave,

I know they weren't around back when you were young, but cotton tips are really useful to keep the wax buildup in your ears limited. Please try to clear your ear canals at least once a decade.:p

thats a negative ghost rider, there are special tools for scrapping build-up. q-tips can break or push the build up deeper into the canal.
