You know, durarara was a lot more interesting before the plot started hinging on Three's Company caliber bullshit misunderstandings mostly caused by people refusing to answer their cell phones because they are emo.

And another thing, why do 2/3rds of the characters all have the same stupid "I have a forelock/widow's peak that's so long it's practically a medieval noseguard" hairstyle? That shit looks utterly moronic.

So I went back and restarted Hunter x Hunter, since you guys were talking about it. It's refreshing to go back to an anime with an actual coherent plot after all the crap anime I've been watching lately. Also, I forgot how much I hated Killua. Also, I have this tendency to root for the weakest character in the main protagonist group. Krillin, Leorio, Usopp. Come on guys.

Usopp isn't the weakest member of the Straw Hat pirates... really, I'd give that honor to Sanji or Chopper, both of which rarely win their fights. Really, if anything he's one of the stronger fighters if only for regularly taking out opponents MUCH stronger than he is and clinching the win when it's more than a one on one fight. (Also, Usopp Vs Luffy at Water 7 is probably the best fight in the series, if only for showing how much Usopp can hurt someone if he wants to).

As for Krillin... keep watching Dragonball Super (especially it's arc currently airing in Japan) and watch as Krillian shows WHY he's still relevant. Really, one of the BEST things about Super is how it's making the lower power fighters relevant again.

Well, I guess we could argue about it technically all day, but I think you catch my meaning. I figured something was coming as soon as I posted that. Even in vanilla DBZ, Krillin is probably much stronger than Yamcha, Choutzu, and (maybe) Tien. Not so sure I can agree about Sanji--they even call him part of the "Monster Three".

In any case, I tend to like the personalities of this type of character more than the others. Like Gon and Goku--they're so much stronger than anyone else that it gets kind of boring to root for them. The one thing Gon has over Goku is at least he shows some fear of overwhelming villains instead of doing the whole chest puff thing anime protagonists so often do.

Finally finished Wedding Peach Season 1. So its basically a shallower version of Sailor Moon. Three middle school girls who dream of being brides are given super powers to defend against a basic devil army. They do so while lusting after the captain of the soccer team. They fight over him while the main character is made fun of by the captains best friend who is also the goal keeper for the same team. The show goes nowhere in 27 episodes other than to give the three girls slightly more powerful attacks about midway through the season. there is one of those silly stuffed animal mascots that helps them fight evil and I cant believe i wasted 700 minutes of my life on this show when i could have easily re-watched sailor moon and maybe actually enjoyed myself. -_-

    Little Witch Academia

Akko, Lotte, and Sucy visit Lotte's house in Finland to have pie with her parents. Except the pie was made so perfectly it causes a flesh eating moss outbreak (I don't get it ether), forcing the girls to make an antidote for everyone. Lots of jokes about Finland, including Laplander Santa Claus and Yetis. North Ranger would have loved this and this episode made me think about him a lot. We miss you, man.

It also continues the theme of this show not actually being about magic, but the animation industry and anime's place in the world. Studio Trigger is infamous about doing shows like this and I'm glad Little Witch Academia holds up the tradition.

Durarara x2 season 2 (Which I guess makes it season 3?)

... this is actually starting to get good again! Especially helped by Mikado not being a fucking whimpering jellyfish all the time.

... oh wait, here comes Masaomi again to fuck everything up AGAIN >_< I guess it was too good to hope for, that the angstfest phase might have been over.

    Finished Durarara.

    Ending spoiler:

    Show Spoiler
When will I learn. Anime serieses based on ongoing manga are not for me. It drives me up the freaking wall when the ending to a FOUR SEASON LONG show is a full circle return to status-freaking-quo. I mean, all the events of the entire series may as well not have happened. It's almost like a time-travel reset, only they didn't even bother with time travel. Everything just worked out so that everybody and everything is exactly how and where they were at the beginning, and can go on being that way forever, apparently. Except now they seem to be giving out Saikas like prizes in cracker jack boxes. She's got a saika, she's got a saika, he's got a saika, she's got a saika, and oh yeah he's got a saika too. Is there anybody left who doesn't have a saika? It's a regular demon blade firesale. Celty got her head, and immediately, immediately started acting like Mopey Masaomi at his worst. "It'll be better for everyone, especially the guy I love and who loves me, if I just go away." Oh my gaaaaaahhhhd teenage angst much, centuries old being? And of course, can't have any character development, so let's cut her head off again and just hand it back over to the evil science guys. And, of course, the ever-swelling ensemble cast started suffering for there just not being enough for everyone to do. I don't know why they bothered even writing Isaya's sisters into the story, they mostly had fuck-all to do other than clutter chat rooms and get told to stay inside where it's safe. I thought the show actually was flirting with major plot development toward the end when it started foreshadowing Shizuo's death louder than a deaf tuba player convention trying to do a sound check, but nope! Shizu-chan is fucking one-punch-man played straight. And hollywood's stalker? I thought the righters just plain forgot about him, but no, he comes back at the last second to be a brick joke.

The whole thing is just one giant, enormous story-cocktease. Gets you all wound up and then laughs at you and leaves. Bleh.

Based upon recent posts in this thread, I started watching Hunter x Hunter.

I'm now 22 episodes in and I'm still waiting for this to be something other than a by-the-numbers shonen anime.

Makes me feel sorry for Fade having suffered through whatever he'd watched previously that THIS trite pablum was like coming up for air.

If memory serves, when season 1 first came out, Daisuki (the production company) streamed it directly off their webpage.

That said, I'd be really surprised if it didn't end up in Iptorrents as well. PM me your e-mail address if you need an invite to that.

Alright, I also squeezed in My Hero Academia this weekend. I REALLY REALLY like the main character Deku. Poor guy is born without any powers in a world full of powered up people, he is bullied by a childhood friend, but he still strives to be a great hero. I also enjoy the mentor and big good All Might, who is a great example of the old, with great power comes great responsibility. Its a very inspiring show in how Deku's classmates respect him for the kind of dude he is.

Constanze gets special permission to participate in the Wild Hunt, a yearly competition to take out ghosts, using a special built magical flying boat that is reminiscent of the one the girls use during the Enchanted Parade OVA movie. The entire thing is dumb as hell, but it was cool to see Akko interact with Constanze, who is essentially a mute and doesn't even talk to her friends much. Definitely a breather episode. Also, lots of Chumlee.

    Only 8 more episodes.

Hunter x Hunter is one of those "give it time" situations. It does indeed start out pretty by the numbers. But it gets better once you're past the test arc. One thing that stands out about this anime is that they take time to make most of the villains sympathetic. Except for Hisoka, who's an off-the-shelf psychopath (and an implied pedophile), the other villains feel justified in their villainy.

Also, I like the nods to western comics. Hisoka is a rhyme for Joker, and he's very similar to Joker. Uvogin is a rhyme for Wolverine, and he's also very similar.
