Minor victory thread

Officially have Sundays off my schedule at Olive Garden. I was getting burnt out being there almost every day and have been actively growing my freelance income enough to start to replace it. Next step will be to match my monthly OG income and eventually, after rebuilding a nice buffer in savings, quit entirely. Still gonna keep the prepress job at the print shop for the time being since I enjoy working there and it's good to keep a consistent paycheck.

Good going, keep it up :)

But yeah, the fat percentage measurement on a scale is usually completely useless. Being even slightly wet has far more influence than actual body fat.

Yep. Good rule of thumb, measure your weight loss in 10 lbs increments over 200 lbs, 5lbs if under. And ignore body fat scales completely. Go for the measuring tape.

Fun fact, scales are devices with built in reference masses such as the triple beam balance scales you see on TV and in doctors offices. Household scales are actually mechanical or electrical load cells. And the scales like the Scales of Justice are actually mass comparators. Each of these have a unique method of calibration.

I love a lot of things about our new home, but today we have our first houseguest, Julie's friend who's back in the country. She came in after they'd been doing tourist stuff and asked, "Where's your bathroom?"

And it felt really awesome to go, "Well, this here is your bathroom."

(technically it's the bathroom I use most mornings so not to disturb Julie but when guests are over we're going to pretend we just keep it in stasis for when people are over :p)

It's such a good feeling isn't it. We've had more guests in the past three months than we had in the last 5 years total.

Successfully made the 42mi drive home last night even though my dash said "36mi to empty" when I hopped in. This was important because gas near where I live is almost 30 cents less/gal than near where I work.

I'm considering it a minor victory that I finally got paperwork from New York concerning my existence.

Wish me luck at the courthouse today in hopes for an epic win in 4-8 weeks! :awesome:

I realize that some may automatically assume I was “doing the thing” with my comment, but my real goal was to remind you that you probably don’t want to show up in the same outfit you wore the day before, and that you probably want to do something about that fact BEFORE tomorrow. ;)

I haven't bought a suit since losing weight, so now my goal is to see how long I can go without needing one. I'm even in a wedding in a few weeks, but it's just dress shirt and khakis so that doesn't break the streak.

I do need to wear a different shirt, I think. Fortunately I have found one, and am now laundering 7 or 8 years worth of wrinkles and dust out of it.

I tried that too at a wedding I went to late last year, and I looked like some kind of maroon and khaki sailboat.

So, the second interview today at lunch went pretty well, too, I think. The company's General Manager was there with us, and by the end of it he was going over how the hiring process would proceed, once they've given me their verbal offer.

:D

So are you going to light the match on the way out, or cackle maniacally as the rest set themselves on fire?

I have to admit, I do kinda look forward to watching the looks of panic descend on everybody when I turn in my 2 weeks. But I'm waiting til they actually do make the offer before I burn that bridge (or anything else flammable)!

I wonder how big a raise they'll offer once you put in your notice.
Unlike previous times, I don't think they can make me any kind of offer I'm inclined to keep. Even six figures won't keep me on a ship I am pretty sure is sinking.... and to be honest, if they DID offer me something ridiculously high, it would confirm in my mind that they don't plan to keep me long term, they just wouldn't want me to quit before they're done needing me.

I have USPS Informed Delivery, where they send me pictures of my pieces of mail. I saw this morning that something from the IRS was coming. I immediately thought "audit..sigh." Wouldn't have been a big deal. I have a pre-paid legal service for just such an eventuality, because my taxes are complicated. But it'd still be a pain in the ass.

But then I thought "Wouldn't they send an audit notice by certified mail? Probably..so what's this?" I was slightly worried.

Got the mail. It was a notification that I linked my IRS tax year 2018 to my son's FAFSA for college. So, nothing to get bothered about at all. Minor victory!

Nice thing about doing meat cutting school is access to dirt cheap meat. I got about three pounds of top sirloin cap, or what Brazilians would call picanha, for 15 bucks. This is good locally farmed Alberta beef too.

Just finished the testing and got my Lean Management Cert. Yet another certification my boss has required me to get, but due to lack of engagement by upper management, will really only apply to my next job.
