Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

I've been informed that deadnaming them is going too far, but it's near certain that they would deadname their opponent if the situation were reversed.
There's plenty of things to criticize her on, but deadnaming and misgendering aren't it, for the same reason you wouldn't (hopefully) use racial slurs against Candace Owens.

Oh will you look at that. Remember how much support the FCC was getting about ending Net Neutrality even though every independent poll said everyone from all political spectrums wanted it to remain?

Should have seen this coming.

Republicans are fine with socialism as long as the majority of the people getting their wealth redistributed are black.

The first part is good. The second part is very wtf.
Right exactly. Forget about using any of the profits the schools will still be making off every athlete, if we’re going to pool money it’s gotta come from the students themselves. Which obviously affects a certain demographic more than others.

"Did you hear? The vaccine is a ploy by the government to kill people! The new world order is going to cull the population!"

"Yes, I am sure the government wants to murder all the compliant, agreeable people, and leave only the raging lunatics that think they are an evil cabal injecting people with 5G. That's how you take over. You cracked the code man. Congratulations."

I've mostly been ignoring the Arizona audit, if only for my own sanity. Today I saw someone mention something about the "bamboo thing" and I got curious. Apparently these geniuses are looking for bamboo because the secret Biden ballots that got smuggled in from China aren't made from regular paper since China doesn't have enough trees for papermaking.

Oh. I was wondering what that was all about. Carry on.

Rand Paul clashes with Fauci over coronavirus origins
During a Senate hearing on the pandemic response, Paul alleged that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) had been sending funding to the Wuhan lab, which then "juiced up" a virus that was originally found in bats to create a supervirus that can infect human cells.

Paul pressed Fauci on the theory that the novel coronavirus was created in the Wuhan lab, and then somehow escaped, either because of an accident or because it was deliberately released.

"Sen. Paul, with all due respect, you are entirely, entirely and completely incorrect," Fauci said. "The NIH has not ever, and does not now, fund 'gain of function research' in the Wuhan Institute."

Paul continued to argue with Fauci, who is the director of the NIH's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), accusing him of cooperating with the Chinese government, and supporting the laboratory that bioengineered a deadly virus.
Isn't Paul supposed to be a doctor? Not a crackpot medical conspiracy theorist? :Leyla:

It really does feel like the world has gone bonkers when I watch as people like George W Bush and Liz Cheney are some of the only ones vocally pushing back on Trumpism.

With *very* few exceptions, pretty much every Republican standing up to trumpism is either a FORMER officeholder, or is on their way out the door at the next election cycle. No one with anything to lose is willing to risk it.

You've got it backwards. It's the ANTI-trumpists threating to break away.

Ah. I didn't read the actual article, and read the blurb as announcing that the Trumpists wanted to break away from the mainstream Republicans, not the other way around.

I still feel like I might still refer to Trumpists as "Magajingos" in the future, though.

Everyday something new happens that makes me just want to hold my head and scream.

A few of my Republican family have been badmouthing Dick Cheney and George Bush, calling them terrible warmongers that plunged us into a war we shouldn't have ever started. I mean, it's true, but be aware that up until last year these family members were absolutely on board with "Support the Troops" and "We had to invade to bring liberty to the Middle East" and "It was Obama that started all this." bullshit.

No, the reason they are shitting on Dick now is because they are mad at Liz Cheney for not backing Trump, and peeved at George for saying publicly that the election was not stolen.

More and more this proves to me that this isn't just ignorance or people being mislead. They KNEW what Bush did was terrible, but he was a Republican, so they had to keep supporting his wars, erase his mistakes and blunders, and support him no matter what. Now that he isn't on board with the new Trumpism narrative though, they can scream about his atrocities all day like they always knew about them, because they did, but it was less important then "the conservative cause".

It's not just ignorance and we need to stop giving these people a pass like they are idiots that don't know any better, often it's straight up loyalty to "the cause" no matter what, even when they are fully aware what they are doing is wrong.

At first, trainer Bob Baffert wanted to blame the libs and "cancel culture"...
But it's so much worse than that!

Chick-fil-A sauce shortage blamed on 'Joe Biden's America'

I'm not providing a link because it's Fox News that said that.

The sauce shortage is apparently real, though:

Clearly, the real blame is Chick-fil-A's leadership, and Heinz's, and and all the other conservative idiots who didn't take this pandemic seriously.

I predict that the only real change the "shortage" will cause is slightly fewer unopened packets ending up in landfills.

You really just have to accept the point where you just look at your relatives *personally I call them relatives and not family anymore*, "You're either morons or you're just short of having started branding yourself with nazi tatoos. Either way, Just NO! Just no."
Unless you can cut them off from FOX or the new upstarts . . .

While spending some time trying not to get depressed on reddit, I stumbled on a video from a channel called "Holy Koolaid".
The dude behind it was a former Evangelical that became an Atheist, so I thought it would be interesting to watch. Holy shit.

In the interest of clarity, I was mostly blaming a lot of the rise of Trumpism on the conservative news machine and conspiracies like QAnon. Republican politicians are of course to blame too, but mostly because they will go along with anything the hive tells them is the new shiny thing that will keep them elected for the next decade or more. Say what you will about people like Ted Cruz, but I don't think he is an idiot that actually believes the election was stolen, just a selfish prick that knows honor and truth won't pay his bills when his base wants a strongman triggering the libs seven days a week.

What I didn't give enough credit to was the power of the whole Evangelical movement itself, mainly "Christian Nationalism", that cemented Trump not as a politician, but as a messiah figure anointed by God to save "American Christianity". These are the people that made Trump into a literal idol to thousands, possibly millions of people. I need to rethink my hierarchy here.

Anyways, here is one of the videos if you want to both cringe and laugh.

I mean, there's already historical precedent for a period of time when religious fundamentalism and an insistence on Faith over Fact ruled the lands. More than one, in fact. And each and every one of them is a period reviled by historians with a sort of "What the Hell were they thinking, setting/holding human progress back like that?" attitude.
