Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

"The United States says it was one of three countries to vote against a U.N. resolution condemning the glorification of Nazism over freedom of speech issues and concerns that Russia was using it to carry out political attacks against its neighbors.
Allowing hate speech was and still is a huge mistake. Most developed countries penalize it and they're much better off. In the US, hate groups get to spread conspiracy theories because of the 1st Amendment, and they can arm themselves to the teeth because of the 2nd. The Bill of Rights has become a suicide pact.

Like many things, the UN's "anti-Nazi" resolution is more complicated than it appears.

The article posted is from 2016, when US and Ukraine both voted against the resolution (along with Palau). This resolution has been submitted every year since 2012. And it's always submitted by Russia, which maybe gives some clue as to why the US and Ukraine voted against.

Here is a more current (and very informative) article about the resolution from Le Monde in 2022, the year when France and 51 other countries also voted against the resolution. According to Le Monde, "While France did vote against the text for the first time this year, it had never voted for it and had always abstained, like many other Western countries."

Also from the Le Monde article:

In 2020, Jean-Yves Le Drian, then French minister of Europe and foreign affairs, justified France's abstention by condemning the Russian resolution at the UN as "a reductive discourse designed to divide Europeans by equating all opponents of Soviet forces with the Nazi regime, [which] reduces the fight against racism to memorial issues related to the Second World War, of which it presents a distorted vision."

They're not just white, they sought "asylum" in the US, claiming that they were being persecuted in Germany because they homeschool their children (which is not legal in Germany). In 2012 "A three-judge panel ruled unanimously against the family, writing that they failed to show that Germany's enforcement of its school attendance law 'amounts to persecution against them.' " (source)

toddstarnes is lying when he says that they're here legally. Since 2012 they've been here illegally, law enforcement has just declined to enforce the court order to remove them from the country.

The right wing are behind these illegal immigrants because they're religious nutjobs who fit into their efforts to defund public schools, among other stances.

I mean, Germany is about to be controlled by the “as close to Nazis as we are legally allowed to call ourselves” party so I’m not sure how effective that is.

He really only has himself to blame. I would like to think they’ll learn something from this, but we know they won’t.

They waived laws such as not allowing the destruction of native burial grounds, bald eagle nests, amongst 24 others.
Apparently, according to the Secretary, this is not a today thing, this is a 2019 appropriation that is kicking off now despite efforts to have the project/money rescinded:

Israel/Palestine is like watching a football game where both teams are terrible. You'd love it if they would both just quit the field.

Hamas in Palestine are terrorists and use terroristic methods.

Israel breaks their word by forcing families out of their homes and torturing the populace just because they can.

Fuck both of them.

Honestly didn’t think Palestine still had this amount of fight left in them. Hopefully Israel realizes that they can’t just make deals with everyone else while committing genocide.

Verified accounts spread fake news release about a Biden $8 billion aid package to Israel

"A doctored White House news release posted online falsely claimed that the Biden administration had authorized $8 billion in emergency aid to Israel on Saturday. The fact that it was faked didn't stop it from being posted across the internet and rising to the top of Google search results."
....
"Several of the posts on X now have 'community notes' attached to them clarifying that the document is fake, but many more posts that are still up have no such clarification."

I wouldn't be surprised if Russia game them some of their weapon stashes from Africa. Or if they just gave them stuff from Wagner.

Anyone thinking Wagner isn't active anymore isn't paying attention.
The recent civil wars and coups in sub-Saharan Africa, pushing more refugees to Europe, destabilizing it, giving more power to the extreme right, making people ask about border security instead of the nearby war, etc etc, are all being triggered by Russia, and are all Wagner vs Jihadists, pretty much.

Russia is losing in Ukraine, but is winning in propaganda, and in destabilizing the world/undermining the West. China or India may end up being able to profit more from that, but it's still very true.

The way they got around it apparently was to fire 5,000 missles in 20 minutes overwhelming the Iron dome.
Which is a strategy they could probably figure out on their own without a game of telephone. Though it might be why Iran gave them so many missles if they heard it could overwhelm the system.
