[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

Someone else tweeted to him that his success largely came from being on the ground floor of webcomics, supported by other up-and-comers, one of which became a huge hit with their own gaming convention. And that's about as true as it comes.
EVERYTHING Scott has is from being associated with Penny Arcade, which is only tangential at this point because even they couldn't work with him professionally. It's literally "Fuck you, I got mine" at this point. Fuck'em.

Is a Kringus-Shecky mashup something that's already happened? I feel like I remember this happening.
I don't know, but Pete Abrams had Bun-Bun kill all the holidays to take all their powers for some stupid reason on Sluggy Freelance years ago. So that's been done before.

As much crap as I shovel his way, I can understand why he'd want to. I mean, heck, I'd work from home even if there weren't armed robbers next door, if I could.

Any idea who he was working with in that space?
Hard to say. At least, their name doesn't appear to be on the building, and a search of the actual address didn't turn up any names newer than 2012 (except maybe a "Steven Manthey?"). Business listings all say it's a 2-person company, but everywhere I find a listing it's always Kurtz, Kurtz, Kurtz, with no mention of who the other person might be (though they helpfully give Kurtz's phone number if you want to call and ask). He's only been there since 2016, and his lease was only going to run one more year.

The dispensary could trim back those trees, they overhang the entrance and look like they'd hide a lot of mischief.

This all happened less than a week ago, so I'd say he was rather motivated.

I wonder if he's still able to make a living with webcomics? I mean, he's pushed away a large amount of his fan base (*ahem*) and constantly feuds with people. Do webcomics still make money?

He's still getting over 500k visitors a month, ranked around 7,000 in websites inside the US, and according to at least one website value estimator it's worth over a million dollars.

He does have a Patreon, with $706 per month. Between that, ads, books and merchandising I'm sure he's not uncomfortable, but he's certainly not Penny Arcade levels of comfort. He has learned to benefit from others, to some degree (if he'd follow through he'd have much more), so not everything he's profiting from is his own work.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's doing better with Table Titans than he is with PvP. It's clearly what he WANTS to be doing because it's usually not half bad.

We should've sent Steve a card.
We might get that chance soon, and not for a good reason.
Should that day come, I’m all for it, btw.

@blotsfan my bad, I read “Scott” instead of “Steve.”
Though I’m still for sending Scott a card when it finally happens.

@Sparhawk Scott’s dad had another stroke near the beginning of the year, not sure how well the recovery is going.

Well blow me down. I fucking LOVED the Alzheimer's arc. Well done and a very satisfying conclusion.
