Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

So the Republican chairman of a tiny county (~20k pop) in Alabama apparently represents the entire right-wing spectrum of U.S. politics.

A'ight.
Hannity is justifying this asshole, and would be in an absolute lather in the opposite direction if it were happening to anyone on the left.

So, yeah. The right is okay with it, as long as it's *their* guy.

As I said above, Polanski, Clinton, etc, the left is OK with it if it's their guy too.

Or at least the prominent public figures are. Which shows how terrible most of those figures are on all sides. That may be the bigger problem. As Gas has said a number of times, Trump was marketed as a hand grenade to Washington. Whatever you think of what he "should" have been, he obviously hasn't grenaded enough people.

Anybody in the Academy who voted for any of his Oscars. Pick one.

A lot of people in hollywood petitioned for his release when Switzerland was considering extradition.

Which of them are in the senate?
Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State, could certainly have forced the issue or had it swept under the rug. We have a good relationship with the Swiss.

He was not extradited when she, as secretary of state, clearly was in a position to 1) publicly discuss how he needs to be extradited and 2) probably had enough power to force the extradition, tipping the balance of the decision in europe one way or the other.

She didn't publicly discuss it, except to say that dropping the case is up to California.

But it's funny you should suggest that the only people with power are in congress.

Funny sad, not funny "haha".

Well I said "politically relevant" and mentioned the senate in explicit reference to how every republican senator that hasn't already decided not to run (or in mccains case will be dead within 6 years) has defended him.

The Dems dumped a Presidential candidate for an extra-marital affair. TWO, in fact.

(Slick Willie was the one-in-three, of course, but that's a different story...)

You can cherry pick anyone you want from the "other side," and it will degenerate into a "you guys are worse" death spiral like it did during the election.

But I challenge you, nay, DARE you to find any Democrat going on national television or radio and actively defend pedophilia and child molesting *cough*Hannity*cough*.

PROTIP: 14 is NOT old enough to consent. No matter what some cable news fuckwit may say. Also PROTIP: trying to use the Bible and a 2000-year past culture to defend it is insane, and probably blasphemous.

I don't know, there had to be a first one? And it just happened to be a guy from the "other side"?

Unless of course the consensus is that no person on the Democrat side would ever condone such behavior.

Sponsors are bailing on the sinking Hannity ship after he defended sex with a 14-year old. So naturally instead of walking back his remarks, he doubles down and attacks those departing advertisers.

And just as naturally, people are doing things like smashing their Keurig machines in solidarity. Not that smashing a Keurig is a bad thing own its own, just that the motivation is all wrong. :p

France's solution to this kind of Bullshit? LOWER the age of consent to 13!
What does the French law actually say?

In this case, it's more about what the law doesn't say. For adults, if there is no threat or violence during a sexual act then it's deemed to be consensual.
I wish I was kidding. I really do. But that's seriously what it is. Their laws were "slightly" ambiguous on if consent was possible, and so acquittals, and then their response isn't to just keep the same age (15) and say ALL below are non-consent, no, they decide "hey, let's lower it at the same time, so 30+ year olds can rape have sex with 13-year-olds and it's totally fine!" Sure they needed to fix the existing law, but then weaken it at the same time?

WTF?

I see the Catholic Church is still influential in the French government.
Nothing at all to do with the fastest-growing religion in that country celebrating the life of a pedophile, and the desire of those in power to "appeal" to them for votes. Of course not. Nope, no chance of that either.

That's a pretty one sided view of the matter. But, you know, Mugabe sort of needed to be gone 20 years ago, I definitely won't cry over him.

The veterans of the 70s war for independence are held in particularly high esteem by the Zimbabwean military. Apparently there was a purge of some of those veterans from the ruling party, and that didn't sit well with the military.
