Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

If this is true it was someone with a lot of money teaching a moron how to set off a bomb. They found him initially in the vestibule of a bar within walking distance of his house (or apartment?). So he's not exactly a criminal mastermind. So some foreign terrorist organization finds an absolute idiot and says, "Do this. It'll be fine."
That's been a lot of these people.

The news isn't reporting that the person who called the police and told them where to find the bomber was in fact a Sikh immigrant.

That is what quite a few of the folks on Kati's Facebook feed have been focusing on.
"Look! One Muslim narc'd on another Muslim!"
Ugh.

Should it have been widely reported if it was a Hindu immigrant? How about Daoist? Or are you just wanting to bring attention to the immigrant part, since there's a lot of anti-immigration ideas going on right now?

Mostly the immigrant part, particularly since the bloated orange peel is blaming refugees for a bombing committed by an American citizen.

Pedanticbeard wants to point out that one can be both an immgrant to the US and a citizen of the US. Indeed, the bomber is one such example.[DOUBLEPOST=1474493647,1474493423][/DOUBLEPOST]

. . . And I just realized the funny bit, here. As in "I feel the need to laugh at this ignorance or my soul will be crushed by the realization that people are stupid"

(It's a fact I'm deep in denial about)

Considering Trump has spoken out against birthright citizenship, I wonder if trying to curtail the rights of existing naturalized citizens could make it onto his agenda as well.

I wouldn't put it past him.

Not that I think he has anything approaching an agenda beyond "what pops into my head, I'm just gonna say. If y'all like it, well do it."

Seems like a lot of power concentrated into one entity with no real plan, other than to set up a single payer system and hope the board is somehow able to create regulations that save money while providing adequate care.

On the other hand they are making money hand over fist with drug taxes, so perhaps they can afford it without bankrupting the middle class.

We are not even going to get into a discussion about the pot taxes. Making money hand over fist doesn't mean shit when a big chunk of it got refunded to the populace due to terrible budgeting. (See TABOR) I am really bitter about pot taxes for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is the terrible education funding in this state.

Political divisiveness making its way into non political arenas. People using whatever wedges they can to force others to adopt their beliefs or hurt them.

It's sad.

The_Donald is one of the most racist, homophobic, and transphobic subreddits there is (and thats saying something). He deserves every amount of shaming he gets for this. Theres having political beliefs, and theres being a neo-nazi.

I agree with this. I wouldn't call it sad, just... dumb. It's their game, those devs can do whatever they want with it, but it's still dumb.

It's the end result of capitalism in this country: when money and it's uses are considered a form of free speech, the ultimate (legal) expression of displeasure can only ever be denying your business/patronage to businesses that back causes you don't believe in. And... there is nothing wrong with this, morally or otherwise. People and companies have the right to spend their money on what they want and to work with who they want. To suggest otherwise is to imply that people have a moral obligation to ignore the harm their money/labors may do if doing so may affect the prosperity of others. There is no such obligation in capitalism. In fact, it would be anathema to all it stands for; it's up to the market to decide if political beliefs are relevant market forces and apparently they are.

All arenas are political because political beliefs are forged through everyday actions and interactions. And to be frank, this sort of thing is still way better union riots, abortion center bombings, or armed uprisings.

Eh, not eating Chick-fil-A is a choice of the consumer, though.
Businesses have the right to choose who they work with. If they believe that protecting their beliefs is more important than full market penetration, that is their right... and really, it's no different than a third party dev deciding not to make a game for a console for any other reason.

Not a lot of people calling for the head of Miyamoto though, I'll admit...

I agree it's their right, I'm not saying they should be forced to, I'm just saying it's dumb. It's a knee jerk reaction that in the end changes nothing, and hurts only the audience that might want to play their games. The console comparison didn't quite fit because it's a peripheral, it's like saying I want to make sure my stuff doesn't work on Dell monitors.

It was a shitty thing to do when oculus tried to do it by locking the Vive out from running oculus games, and it's a shitty thing to do now.

Though, I haven't looked to see which devs are doing this, maybe they all suck anyway so who cares.
