What I don't understand is a bunch of the folks that I worked with went back to them, either through futureshop or best buy mobile. Other than needing a job because you couldn't find anything else, which is almost never the case here, I would never have put any faith in them again, and now that the same is happening, watching these people be surprised it baffles me.
I saw that a lot when the local telco that I worked for was bought out. "Oh, it's just internet support. They can do that anywhere. They need customer support in the area so customers know we're still here." "They can do customer service anywhere. They wouldn't get rid of sales. They need us here for the customers." Etc. That is until a huge snow storm shut down the city where their only call center was and no one could come in to answer any of the calls. Then they decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep some call center people at other locations and rehired people.

Okay Netflix, I'm in the mood for something dumb to watch tonight. What've ya got?

*sees Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance*

Goddammit, Netflix. That's too dumb. WAY too dumb.

*sighs*

*hits play*

S0 we're renting a house, and the landlord is buying out our lease. Nothing we did. It's just that the market in our neighborhood is really hot right now, and he wants to sell it at a huge profit so that builders can tear down a perfectly good house and replace it with a McMansion. Anyway, we will be renting the house right across the street, which will make for the dumbest move ever. Seriously, can I just rig up a zip line or something?

So my friend claims to be the cheapest bastard I know, hates spendin' money on anything cos his job don't pay much. Yet...he's planning on buying a 6500 dollar car instead of a used one. Thats weird right? Should I say something? I feel I should say something.

I want to know who the hell is selling a brand new car for $6,500!!!

Does it come with tires and an engine or are those separate?

That... Sounds like the normal price of a used car to me. I mean, without knowing what model and getting a kbb value, $6500 for a quality used car seems pretty reasonable.

He said new, but he might've just meant new in relevance to him having it. I also thought down payment since he said he was saving up 5000 dollars. And 6500 is a good price for used? I thought 4000, but maybe I've just had luck with car guys.

YMMV. One size fits all. Please donate unused bits; recycle gently used bits; and reuse damaged bits in arts and crafts rather than discarding them. If rashes, itching or swelling persist, see your doctor. Wear suitable protective clothing. May be a choking hazard for children under 3. Open, add one cup of water, close tightly, then toss gently for 5 seconds before microwaving on high for 45 seconds. Do not apply to open sores. Seek professional assistance if you do not understand these instructions. This post contains ideas known to the state of California to cause cancer.
For erections lasting longer than 4 hours, please seek medical attention?

I just bought a '07 caravan with 95000Km (59000 mi) for $9000, most were closer to $15k. so $6500 for a car is pretty good

Just got back from Pittsburgh and took a walk to the fire scene. There's nothing left but smoldering wreckage. VFD still on the scene hosing it down. Two people sent to West Penn Burn Center, and two to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. Considering WVU has one of the best hospitals in the state, that's very bad.

Apparently it started as a grease fire while someone in a lower apartment was cooking this morning.

My lap top may have just bit the dust. It's not so much the loss of the machine itself, although I don't look forward to having to spend the money on a new one, it's the fact that I may have just lost some family photos I might not be able to get back. I did back up some of them recently, but the most recent ones, like this year's Chinese New Year, may be gone for good. :(

That's what I'm hoping. I'm waiting for Mr. Z to get home and give it a second opinion, because I am not starting computer surgery when I'm the only one home with Li'l Z.

Depending on what part of the laptop actually died, the data on the hard drive might be easily recoverable.

Of course, if it was the hard drive itself that died, you might be SOL. But if it's the motherboard or the display or power supply, it's pretty easy to get data off a laptop drive using one of these -

Of course, if it's just the HD that died, it's an easy and reasonably cheap fix too. No photos but at least you aren't out a ton of money.

We had an apartment "shanty" a couple of doors down from the house I grew up in. Was a fire trap drug house just waiting for a meth lab to explode on someone. When I was 22 it caught fire. I left work (good alibi right? It was caused by a space heater, not the druggies next apartment over) to keep an eye on our house (pier & beam all wooden 100 year old house) and ended up sitting in the front yard in a lawn chair just watching it burn to the ground. It was a good day. Owner wanted to rebuild (even though it was against the current zoning category, but grandfathered because it was there before the zoning ordinance), city said he could, as long as everything was up to current building code. Never got rebuilt, would have cost the dude real money to even put 4 apartments back in the same spot that he had 8-10 before.

This is one of the main reasons that I got out and bought myself a cheap house. My mortgage is the same as a rent payment, and I don't have to worry about some alcoholic cooking late at night killing me in my sleep.

Now I just worry about this alcoholic...
