I mean, as long as it's allowed to completely dry out before inserting anything in it and powering it on, it should be fine.
Pauline once tried to clean out her keyboard by soaking it in the tub, then drying it out with a hair dryer. IT MELTED. I guess it gave me a trigger about wet electronics :p

Olympics should only be hosted by wealthy cities with pro and college sports heritage, and don't let them build any new venues. Besides London and Atlanta most cities of the last 30 years could not afford to host the games.

Calgary in 1988 was an exception: Wikipedia
The Calgary games were at the time one of the most expensive Olympics ever held, but the organizing committee turned record television and sponsorship revenue into a net surplus that was used to maintain the facilities built for the Olympics and develop the Calgary region into the heart of Canada's elite winter sports program. The five purpose-built venues continue to be used in their original functions, and have helped the country develop into one of the top nations in Winter Olympic competition; Canada more than quintupled the five medals it won in Calgary at the 2010 games, the next Winter Olympics hosted on Canadian soil in Vancouver.
Other articles saying similarly 25 years after:

But as I said, Calgary was an exception to the rule. I agree that in general it's a shitshow.

I'd also argue Beijing as an exception too.
You could be right, but Calgary has almost 30 years proof of it having been a good thing. If Beijing's facilities are still being used, then it's a good indicator it was fine, and will continue to be so.

Anybody have any idea about Sochi, Russia? I'm betting similar to the Rio situation given how remote the place is, but maybe it's a destination for athletes? I have no idea.

27 photos of the ghost town that was once the Sochi Olympic Village

(Remember, it was a winter sports facility, and there is no snow in Sochi, they had to make it/transport it in from elsewhere)
Subtropical climate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sochi#Climate Idiotic to hold it there. Hell, even I'll admit Calgary is iffy certain times, but that's because of Chinooks that we have there, not that we don't get snow (oh it snows), though not like some other Canadian cities (*cough* Winterpeg *cough*).

Other than that, the place actually looks pretty well-kept IMO. You can find some of the "crap" photos in any city of that size if you look enough, so I wouldn't hold that against them necessarily.

Barcelona benefited a lot from hosting in '92, if I recall correctly. The city was renovated in general, and it had very lasting effects in tourism, industry, and general international biz.

Barcelona had a lot going for it even without the Olympics, though.

Sure but it can bring even prosperous cities to their knees. See Montreal: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976_Summer_Olympics#Legacy

They were cited (Frequently) as a reason that Calgary should not host the games, as the debt was huge on Montreal. But for whatever reasons, Calgary did not have those problems. So the state of the city itself is certainly "a thing" with regards to the Olympics, but it's not everything.

But if they'd hosted it in Laval, it would have been OK, right @Jay? ;)

Montreal has a penchant for White Elephant projects. The 1978 Expo, that giant airport that no one uses - hell, Nick Hoult mentioned that they were able to just use those facilities when filming Warm Bodies (the airport and the stadium) because they were literally just shut down and empty.

Never underestimate the retardation of Quebec politicians. The Summer Olympics was a disaster.

And keep that shit out of Laval.
