TIL Tonsil stones are a thing.

Ew.

Heh. You've never heard of tonsiliths*?
Oh man.
Youtube is fulla vids of this stuff. It's right up there with botfly larva, Guinea worms, and the Loa Loa.
You know, for when elephantiasis videos just don't do it for you any more.

Is that what the ladies are getting into these days? Looks like my long-neglected stash of ovipositor porn will finally come in handy!

There's a temple to Guan Yu about 30 meters from my grandparents' house. He's venerated as the god of war and combat around these parts.

There's a temple for Guan Yu in Manhattan. You have to know where to find it, and it's not as massive as the ones over-seas, but it's a neat surprise.

Jibbers crabst. The radio tower behind my office is only 100 meters.
Ya, but the statue this is originally about is 48m, so I just picked a number not-quite 10x that. And if you watch the Extra History series on him, you'll see why.

Total.

Badass.

Even his JAPANESE enemies acknowledged him CENTURIES later as someone they still fear/respect.

And this isn't nationalism from me. I'm not Korean, nor have I ever been there. Never heard of this guy before this series. He's that significant.

Nobody with any power gives a damn. There could be WW3, and in post-treaties, it won't even be mentioned, and they'll keep it. NOBODY cares. China has already moved in MILLIONS of people to ensure that the population ratio favors staying with China if they ever even allowed a referendum, so it will "legitimately" stay via democracy... democracy via shipping in Millions don't forget.

It's over, China's won on this, on population if nothing else. That has secured their victory. Similar to Russia and Crimea actually!

Ah, okay. I was thinking of the predictions that they'd take over the entire Ukraine since the US wasn't willing to get involved in a ground war over the Ukraine. I guess mentally I was conflating Crimea with the entire Ukraine.

Exactly. That southern red splotch is Crimea, where Russia basically did the same thing - moved russians in until they outnumbered Ukrainians, then voted themselves out of Ukraine.
Except that, you know, the Russians moved into the Crimea in the nineteen fifties.
