I'm a goddamn idjit. I bought an HDMI to VGA converter, when I needed a VGA to HDMI converter. /headdesk.

I even asked!
Also I find it extremely hard to believe you are using a 1060 that doesn't have DP/HDMI out...unless you are using a separate computer for the TV?

Well, the good news is most of it was included in a backup I made 4 months ago to another drive (that I then unplugged and put away in a cabinet). So I guess it could be worse. And I guess if I can't tell what's missing, that means it wasn't all that important, right?

How much of it did you have backed up in the NSFW forum?

—Patrick
Heh, none. I should also say porn wasn't the ONLY thing on that drive. There were also personal files going back more than 25 years. Thank goodness those were in the backup as well. Basically, I would only lost some things I've gotten in since June... and as I don't really remember getting anything worth backing up in that time period. At least not that would have been stored on that drive - TV shows, movies, etc were on a different drive. I've made sure to update that backup as well, now. Just in case.

Finally managed to get the Comcast account closed. Unfortunately, it required a two person team of callers. And one angry shouty phone call.

Yay, finally got my VGA to HDMI converter working!

Boot up the living room media pc -

"This copy of windows needs to be registered before you can continue."

What? I already did that... fine... let's... *click*

"Windows has already been registered. Click OK to exit."

Well, that was easy. *Click*

(Windows exits back to login screen).

Uhhh.. *clicks username*

"This copy of windows needs to be registered before you can continue."

*huff* Well, this is irritating, but I should be able to fix this by rebooting into safe mode with command prompt.

*clicks reboot, starts hitting F8*

TV/HDMI converter: UNSUPPORTED RESOLUTION

It hasn't been that bad for me, but it hasn't been the promised improvement, either. It's got just as many memory leaks as the last version.
Yep. Doesn't load anything any faster. Doesn't support a bunch of people's favorite add-ons. Still full of memory leaks. Still a crummy, bloated mess of a browser. I swear it's almost less useful than Edge.

Because the word for what you're looking for is 4k monitor. :p
Those didn't have speakers! (and remotes, and additional more traditional inputs for video sources).
Also yes I know that everyone is likely going to have to buy their AV HDTV gear all over again when we switch to ATSC in 2021 or so (even though it will allow broadcasters to know how many people are watching and who/where they are), but that's why I thought I'd be able to find something cheap now.

Currently pulling CPU fan out of an old computer in the hopes that it will work as a stopgap for now. I'm not overclocking anything, so it might work. :p

This is why I run strictly air-cooled systems. I'm running a pretty beefy machine, moderately overclocked, and heat isn't an issue.

I long ago vowed that if I ever went liquid, I was going to use mineral oil instead of normal coolant, because they always eventually leak. ALWAYS.

Heh, I also told her when it happened, it's been my experience that liquid cooling solutions are always more trouble than they're worth.

CPU fans are so noisy though. D:
Mine's not. I can't even tell when the damn thing is on or off, until I move the mouse. Of course, I've got a nice case... it has like 5 case fans in it but is still silent as the grave.

To be fair, I'm using an old fan from an old computer that only sort of fits right. I just want to whine more.

I'm not sure why you felt the need to make a smartass remark? need more time with thumpers mother?
No, I genuinely want your closed loop system to outlast my expectations. I want to hear you get all up in my face about how it's been going strong for almost a decade, about how you were able to overclock it almost a full 10% above spec, all without any problem whatsoever so TAKE THAT you ECU one-eyed faithless Internet nobody. I'd love to be wrong about this.

oh ok...
well I only need it to last a few years before I cycle my hardware. the cooling system is not meant to last forever and its folly to assume any system like this would last more than a few years of heavy use without repair or replacement.
