I asked my husband if he was ok with me seeing it with the kids when he was out of town, he said it was fine. So we saw it, I told him it was amazing, then 30 minutes later he went to the movies with people at work and picked Spider-Man because of that.

Man, the score to Into the Spider-Verse is so fucking excellent. I've been listening to it while I do housework today. Daniel Pemberton, who I have no idea who he is or any of his past work, you done good.

Bumblebee just passed the minimum review threshold on Rotten Tomatoes to be rated "Certified Fresh" with a score of 93% (84+ / 6-) and an average rating of 7.1 out of 10.

Very likely, it will be the best reviewed Transformers movie by a wide margin. It already has more positive reviews than the last two Transformer movies combined -- not the Tomatometer score, the actual number of reviews.

That's good to hear. There's a lot about it that feels like this is the direction they should have taken with the live action movies in the first place.

I'm worried how the visual style of the Transformers movies sort of bled into the Power Rangers movie... we're (apparently) getting a sequel, but one of the things a lot of viewers hated was the over designed suits and zords. I'm wondering if a return to a more classical form would help that series.

Yeah, exactly. I've been hopeful for this movie since the first trailer when they showed a transformer jet transformation that looked like a transformer jet transformation.

The likelyhood that we're going to be able to see Bumblebee in theaters is slim, so if anyone sees it, let me know in your review if you think it would be okay for a 6-year-old? Li'l Z's has a passing interest in Transformers (he asked for an Optimus Prime for Christmas), and there's no way in hell I'm sitting through any of that Bay garbage again. He's not really passionate about Transformers, but with his vehicle obsession, I can see why this would be on his radar. Most likely we'll watch it once it's out digitally. Or just I will. Either way.

Unfortunately, Bumblebee is also on my 'aren't we going to see this when you visit?' list, so I won't have a review until after the weekend.

Yeah, I'm going to be off in a place with no theater for a week for Christmas so I won't be seeing it till I head south.

GeekDad has their parent's guide for the movie posted.

China has dreadful taste in American movies.
It really is a matter of this. Hollywood likes the international markets because all they have to do there to make money is spend money on special effects. Poor writing and acting doesn't matter; that can be fixed with dubbing.

More to the point, what is considered good writing here often doesn't translate culturally or is just destroyed by poor translators or censors.

People I expected would like it because it seems overloaded and bonkers came away bored. But I'm also seeing a lot of people who were entertained. I think we'll go to the movies tomorrow.

To see Spider-verse.

The fight with Mantis was way too short, it seemed, although the camerawork and transitions were pretty on point.
