In your libertarian utopia what it done about people that can not serve in the military due to disability? Doomed to be less-than?
Man, this takes me back 20 years, and the first time we had this discussion on the PvP comic messageboards. That exact question was raised by... I think she called herself ~*ShadowyDreamer*~ or something like that. She was in a wheelchair.

Since it was a discussion of the heinlein system, the answer was "the military will still take you, and find something you CAN do, even if it's not combat."

Plus, she'll have new company real quick:

...

Also, it just dawned on me that most of the people who will get to vote after service will be the ones that didn't end up on the front lines... since they'd be the ones that would have almost 100% survival rates.

Psst... Heinlien was a fascist and this is an intentional facet of fascist government. They send the proles to the frontline to die so the elites can control democracy and so those who would rise against them aren't present in the state and are likely to be killed.

Heinlein was not a fascist. But you could be forgiven for thinking so if one's only knowledge of his work came from the Starship Troopers movie.

For Further Reading

He was, however, the dirtiest of dirty old perverts.

You're right. It would be more correct to say that he started out a fascist and then LOST. HIS. FUCKING. MIND. with a little bit of pedophilia. It's like he rode a V2 rocket through a nebula of pure LSD and never came back.

Unlike Piers Anthony, whom basically has to announce himself to the neighbors every time he moves at this point.

No. He. Did. Not.

and then LOST. HIS. FUCKING. MIND. with a little bit of pedophilia.
And rape. Don't forget the rape.

Man oh man, the Adept series was as close as I could get to porn from my middle school library, though!

I either don't remember the Apprentice Adept series very well, or have very high standards for what constitutes porn. To be fair, it could be both. I still think Domestic Girlfriend isn't all that spicy, and I'm reading the manga.

Hey, to a 12 year old, Split Infinity was saucy AF.

Which maybe was part of Piers' problem.

Not speaking to the other cuts that may be there, but given how corrupt and awful an organization the IOC is, I actually support cutting whatever public funding that even might get routed to them at all. If the Special Olympics is separate, then OK, but the IOC is just awful, so even if they have this "good aspect" to what they do, they're still horrific. If this means having a different organization for the "equivalent" of the Special Olympics, I'm OK with that, but anything to the IOC is flushing away money to corrupt bureaucrats. They're not a charity, they're there to make money.

The special Olympics is a completely separate entity, the IOC only allows them to use their name.

It's not clear to me exactly how they're going to enforce that (apart from schools). It even says in the articles they're not going around public buildings demanding to see vaccination records. Maybe they should.... but then it starts to feel a little "Papers, please."

True, but it adds a layer of culpability. If there's an outbreak and they trace it back, they can charge the parent with Excessive Stupidity in a Public space and nail their asses to the wall.

Theyve pretty much said it's symbolic.

Someone introduced a bill to make Puerto Rico a state, right now it's just a territory and DC is some other kind of classification.

Ah I didn't know it was a thing at the moment. Interestingly, people will accuse it of being a democrat power grab, but it's not even close to certain that Puerto Rico would be a blue state. Probably for as long a trump is in charge, but not long term.
