In related news, the Dow plunged 300 points today because (among other concerns) people got nervous that the Fed might raise interest rates up from de facto 0%.

it would make (insert the staggering number of loans in default here) human beings happier and only hurt people that think money is more important than human feelings and life

I'm no super economist, but people might take that money that was going to the federal government and maybe JUUUUST maybe, buy consumer goods???
yeah....the government can't just write off 1.2 trillion dollars....

With the way they spend, they coulda fooled me.
That's different, that's money the GOVERNMENT owes, not money owed the government. Let's not get all crazy and start holding the government to logical, real world limitations such as those set on every single individual and business in the nation... that kinda talk could get us all "randomly" selected for audit.

I agree with that, however it does create a degree of moral hazard by creating ultra-cheap cost of capital. People would be encouraged to take out excessive loans and then dump those into higher interest devices, like the stock market or w/e. I actually know people who did this in undergrad. One of them was soooooo proud of how well his Tyco stock was doing.

You mean like this?
I mean, I'm sure that they won't do it now that they've managed to get back on their feet with government help completely under their own power, but boy, I bet their respective shareholders are deliriously happy with all the stock buybacks the banks are putting through now that they've been okayed to do so.

One of the signs on the left would seem to indicate he is, in fact, in Calgary.
True. He....could be visiting by chance when this picture was taken? Or he fled the country following the socialist's rise to power? To a land where he could be Truly Free (as long as you pay for national healthcare) on the Real Frontier? :p
