So the war is continuing to go extremely poorly for Russia to the point that it honestly looks like they will collapse as a nation before they take Kyiv.

Considering the proximity to Poland, just say goodnight then. There is losing, then there is ending human existence out of spute.
The worry is that, given the rumors about Putin's declining health, he might just decide to take as many of us with him as he can, consequences be damned.

Then I guess his inner circle will need to make a hard decision. No one is that invincible.
 
Meanwhile, Russia's estimated troop losses are...a lot, to put it mildly. They've also lost about half a dozen geberals in the past month.

 
Russia has said it would only use nuclear arms if they faced an existential threat.

Sadly, "We were stupid enough to invade a coutnry too big and belligerent to conquer, and now our economy is collapsing, our army is folding up, and the people are restless" could be considered an existential threat to a country.

Their justification for every single policy and government action since the Bolsheviks consolidated their power after the revolution has been a nebulous ongoing "existential threat." The entire soviet mindset is one that they are constantly besieged by enemies and there are traitors all around.
