Video Game News and Miscellany

If it makes you feel better, the players of Dust basically were peasants. Capsuleers (aka EVE player characters) are pretty much star gods in the world lore, and Dust players were the pawns that enacted their will on the puny planets they were too busy to annihilate themselves.

While you're here, did you happen to see the Bloodbourne reviews? I think I have something to pick up later today.
Sorry, I'd gone to work before I saw this. Haven't read reviews because they want to splurge about everything that happens in the beginning, but I saw the scores. Already had it pre-ordered, picked it up, trying to make my character.

The good side of overtime at work? My manager let me have tomorrow off :D. I get to play Bloodborne all fucking day.

I picked it up too, but haven't had a chance to play. I'll boot it up before bed. And, man, those metacritic scores. This game apparently knocked it out of the park.

Surprising absolutely nobody, Nintendo will be pushing WiiU Zelda's release out of 2015.

Well, I see this as being an "end of console's life cycle" game if Nintendo just lets them have free reign. I have nothing against them taking the time they need; I just hope it's not this team finally getting access to the open world model and needing to play with all the toys before finally pegging down what they want the game to be.

I guess this makes the end of the year easier for me--I won't have to split time between Zelda U and Persona 5.

You know what Nintendo could do to revitalize the WiiU? They need to offer a service comparable to PlaystationPlus and give people access to free uShop titles every month. In fact, why not put up several of Nintendo's most important, historic titles to begin as a measure of good faith? Maybe even make membership part of the rewards program they are doing to encourage the faithful to try and get more swag.

Think of it like this: Nintendo doesn't want to devalue their titles by offering sales... they view their works as pieces of art that deserve a premium price. However, the lack of sales are hurting uShop sales because the player base still considers them commodities as well. So why not introduce such a service as something like the "Nintendo Museum" or something? This puts the players forth as patrons of the company, supporting their masterpieces and, in-exchange, getting unlimited access to those historical titles as long as they are members. Maybe let members walk through a virtual museum as their Miis and visit exhibits based on Nintendo history as well. Make it something like $10 a month and include a discount on uShop titles as well as thanks for supporting the company.

That seems infinitely more palatable to the board at Nintendo to me.

With Zelda U likely off to 2016, what's left for Wii U this year? Splatoon, Starfox, and Xenoblade Chronicles X ... am I missing anything or is that it?

I'm not complaining; the 3DS alone could keep me busy this year and still have a game or two left over for next year. I'm just curious.

Let's see...there is also Mario Maker and Yoshi's Woolly World. Maybe not quite as big as those other titles, but they should be coming out this year.

Thanks. For some reason I thought Mario Maker was going to be a feature in a bigger game, not a game on its own.

Since Splatoon doesn't look to be having two-players can go online together like in Mario Kart 8, probably my only Wii U purchase this year is going to be Xenoblade Chronicles X.

That's probably all I would have gotten too, but to be honest, I'm not really regretting switching out my Wii U for a PS4.

If Zelda U was still coming out this year ... that'd still be 9 months away. There are people saying "2015 hasn't been ruled out," but the goal release was December, so there really isn't much room for delay then, especially if they're now experimenting and saying the game won't be ready for E3.

No, you probably made the right call. I've noticed Nintendo can only seem to do really well on one console at a time. 2013 wasn't much for Wii U, but the 3DS really came into its own. Then last year wasn't so great for 3DS, but the Wii U was on fire. This year, lots of excellent 3DS stuff, but the Wii U is championing Yoshi and Kirby as significant. I expect next year will be dull on the 3DS and big on the Wii U.

Meanwhile, PS4 has Bloodborne now and will have the delicious Persona 5. That's only two titles, but they justify this thing.
