Video Game News and Miscellany

Gotta say, that's bullshit. Thankfully I'm not into fighting games anymore.

Love how key characters are locked off unless you pre-order. Fuckers.

GTA Online Heists (which were only recently released) look pretty damn fun. Can't wait for the PC version, hopefully in April.

Holy shit, Obsidian's Kickstarter funded Pillars of Eternity comes out in like 3 days. I was not aware until just now. AWESOME.

Stoked.

Yup....Still waiting for my key. Also, not sure whether or not I'll start it right away or wait for a few patches. But looking forward to it.

This means I should be getting... a lot of stuff soon.

Goddamn, I put a lot of money into that thing... it better be good.

Iwata says the Zelda Netflix deal is false.
Oh well. It could have been cool, but I understand Nintendo not perhaps going with this idea. They lent their properties to a lot of other hands back in the '90s for all sorts of projects and, well...

Frankly, it's understandable why Nintendo might want to keep a tight leash on their IPs now. Still, I was excited about the prospect of a Netflix Zelda series.

They've been keeping a tight leash for almost two decades. It's in the past few months that they've announced wanting to branch out with their IPs, so we're starting to see toys and merch, plus this deal they've made to bring their IPs to mobile through another company. That's why the Netflix deal seemed legit; because Iwata made it clear to customers and stockholders that this is the kind of thing Nintendo wants to start trying again. Which is why his wording was the way it was--Nintendo will neither confirm nor deny that a new Zelda show is in the works, just that this particular rumor is false.

While you're here, did you happen to see the Bloodbourne reviews? I think I have something to pick up later today.

The funny thing about that is that a lot of people seem to be coming out of the closet about liking that movie, despite the lack of similarity to the game.

Honestly, I kind of like it myself. The film's core plot (people are transported to alternate dimension where dinosaurs evolved into humans) is a decent idea and it has some fun moments. It's just a terrible adaptation of Super Mario Bros. Mind you, at the point in time they made the movie, there really wasn't a whole lot from the Mario franchise to really work with.

Not a whole lot to work with?! Are you kidding? The Super Mario Brothers Super Show predated the movie by 4 years and had a lot of worldbuilding to draw on. Not only were there 3 Super Mario NES games already out but the SNES and Super Mario World had already been in circulation for years. There was plenty of source material for someone who wanted to use it.

Not that a 100% faithful-to-the-source-material work is a guaranteed slam dunk either. Compare the 1986 Transformers movie, which was much more favorably reviewed, 100% in lockstep with established plot, and barely broke even ($5.9 million on a $6 million budget).

I know all about those. I've watched the Super Mario Bros. Super Show and I know the games had come out around that time. I just feel that, since then, the franchise has built up its world more and as a lot more that someone can work with to craft a story that more properly fits the spirit of the games and better uses its characters and setting. Of course, I also think that any new attempt at a Super Mario Bros. film would be best done with animation.

That movie definitely went PG compared to the show. Nothing like opening your kid's movie by killing off half the cast. Spoiler alert.

Apparently the initial write-up had another 10+ bots getting killed, but they toned it down.

I can still remember being so mad about Ironhide getting his face blown off in the first 10 minutes.

Transformers: The Movie - the Red Wedding of our childhood.
It had enough of an impact that they even changed the G.I. Joe animated film. Originally, Duke was going to be killed, but after the uproar of the death of Optimus Prime, they changed it so he only ends up in a coma.

And do we need to go into what DiC did to the end of the first season of Sailor Moon when it was localized to America...

To be fair, Prime was revived in the season following the movie, too, though it was Bumblebee/Goldbug of all people that saves the day.

Keep in mind, Valkyrie is a flight sim with some (unspecified) interoperability with EvE Online, but they're not bringing the actual larger MMO to PS4.

There's DLC for Dragon Age Inquisition. Except if you own the PS4 version, because Microsoft ponied up the exclusivity dough.

At least this time, unlike with Skyrim, they aren't also fucking PC users.

AND HOLY SHIT IT'S 25 BUCKS!

FUCK OFF!

It's ONE new zone and a dragon.

And that price is for Australians. It's only 15 bucks. Which is still a little nuts.

"Supports Oculus Rift" Sweet!
"...and Sony's Project Morpheus." WHAT. You're going to fucking... CONSOLE-TARD IT?
EVE. On Playstation 4.
/facepalm
EVE already has expansions on consoles. DUST was a planetary conquest FPS on the PS3 which shared a world and interoperability with the MMO.
