My daughter has taken 2 weeks of French and is already over learning another language. Jokes on her, because since she's doing IB, she's going to be shooting for a Seal of Biliteracy by the time she's done with High School, so she's really going to hate it by then.

My high school required 3 years of Spanish. I chose to do a 4th year my senior year and hated it and just wanted to drop it. The only problem was that I wanted to go on the exchange trip to Costa Rica and you could only do that if you were currently taking Spanish, so I just gutted it out.

When I got to college they said you needed to do 3 semesters of a foreign language unless you did at least 4 years of one in middle/high school. That was probably the closest I've come to feeling there was a god looking out for me.

You're a continental European. Isn't knowing at least three languages the default setting?

You would be surprised at what comes back. I did late immersion and then didn't study it again until I needed it for work. The little bit I had from back then was a big help in my studies then.

I did late immersion and took both German and Spanish briefly in school when we lived places without immersion (I'm old lol - Immersion is standard now).

I still take french courses sometimes and would love to study Spanish again if I could find somewhere locally.

We got a translation case that had to be translated into British English. When the translator handed in the case, he attached a note to it that said, "All instances of the word 'salty' have been spelled with one 'L' in accordance with British English."

Damn you, translator, for making me doubt myself about whether I know how to spell "salty". I actually went and googled it.

For me, it was 8 years of English, 6 years of Swedish, 5 years of German, 1 year of French, and one semester of Russian.
