Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

Usaians defending this... how surprising.

And btw, it's not the 1st time, or the only Till memorial to get defaced, and it's not exactly in a spot with lots of traffic, since it marks where the body was found.

It certainly makes it in even worse taste, but it does not show intent. As Pez provided examples of, people who shoot signs will shoot any sign with no regard for what's on them, even things that many would consider hallowed, patriotic, poignant, or inspiring.
Unless its confederate statues, then it's a problem...

Who is defending this? Defacement of signs is a serious problem, regardless of the motivation. It's not okay that this sign got shot. That doesn't change the fact that showing a single pic of a defaced sign doesn't prove racism. (Which isn't something that needs proving. The United States is a country with a long history of racism, and it's easy to demonstrate, in multiple other ways, that racism continues to this day.)

I'm certainly not going to deny that racism is a huge problem in the United States, but it's just one of the many problems we have that lead to signs getting defaced. It's likely that at least some people shot the Emmett Till sign out of racism. But how many other signs around there are riddled with bullet holes? Is it in a remote location? (Because just about any sign in a remote location in the rural US is going to get shot at some point.)

EDIT: Using the reasoning that vandalism automatically means a political message about what's been vandalized... That means that Christmas really is under attack in America! Any church that puts out a nativity scene is likely to have the baby Jesus stolen, or the display otherwise defaced. The church I grew up in puts out security cameras and other detection systems to attempt to prevent this. I know this is far from uncommon. Since this is happening to many churches, and happens repeatedly, clearly this is a case of a hate crime against Christians.

That's funny how you say that while quoting a post that has links to show it's not a single time/sign...
You do realize that I made my only other post on the matter before you posted links to those articles, yet you expected us to just automatically accept "that's racist!" from just the single pic earlier, right?

I was trying so hard to figure out what Usaians were supposed to be.

I guess when someone's from the People's Republic of China, we'll say they're a Republican? But then I'm not sure if someone's from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Religion today is nothing more than the rich old men in power using fear to keep their women, children, and lessers in line. If Jesus were to come back today and try to preach the same tenets, I'd bet the ranch that Fox and Fools would attack him, and the rest of the evangelical idiots would fall right in line.

I may believe in Jesus, but I don't believe in the Methodist church anymore. Love thy neighbor, unless they're gay or trans? Fuck you.

Oh, and FUCK ALABAMA. Every one of the state senators who voted against a rape and incest exception to the abortion ban was an old white dude. EVERY ONE.

Also doctors that would likely give abortions are probably more liberal too, and they would also be charged as a felony if they attempt to carry one out. Whole thing smells.

Weird, i could have sworn me posting those links implied that i did not expect you to just accept that one pic, hence linking to more evidence.

I did however assume that it being a racist act was the most likely/simplest conclusion... and lo-and-behold, it turns out that testing it with a google search turned up those links... you know, it would be really useful if that sort of thing had some snazzy, sharp, cutting name...

I do however expect you to accept that my assumption did end up being right, instead of reiterating your original complaint (well, MindDetectives at least, you just posted a pic of another road sign that was shot, which is debatable as a post on it's own, maybe i shouldn't have assumed that then, even if your next post did confirm it ) as if that absolves you of admitting you where wrong in your assumption that my assumption wasn't the most likely based on the context.

No, they're Prcians... duh.

Americans. We call ourselves Americans.
And, as pointed out above, teh chinese call themselves a Republic...

And the germans call themselves deutche...

That's literally what's in the New Testament...

To paraphrase nBSG: It's happened before, and it will happen again.

AKA "Dumb European opinion"
That implies you wouldn't respond the same if it was posted by another citizen of the USA, and, frankly, i have my doubts...

Even Pat fucking Robertson said its too harsh.

And to be fair, the governor of Alabama that signed it is an old woman. Shitty women have their share of blame for anti-abortion laws too.

Also lol. According to Alabama, a doctor would get in less trouble for making a woman give birth and killing the baby afterwards.

Evil is winning, and the people in the most position to do anything about it sit with their thumbs up their asses "advising caution" and writing strongly worded letters. Meanwhile the world gets steamrolled.

Evil is winning
Speaking of “both sides,” one of the things that bothers me most is that, from their point of view, it’s the Roe v. Wades of the world who are the “evil” ones, and so they feel completely justified in doing what they’re doing. I’ll bet Walter Peck probably felt convinced he was doing the right thing, too, even though his actions almost doomed the planet.

I saw a map that shows state by state who actually opposes abortion rights and at it's highest, it's like 30% of people. Real tyranny of the minority going on. Saw it on Twitter and now I can't find it and it's making me mad.

The fact that now in Alabama, a doctor could force a woman to have a child, then literally smash the child against the wall until it is dead and still get less jailtime than a woman with a conception based on rape getting an abortion is one of the ultimate fuck yous to women ever perpetrated in the west.

That would make it about 60% of men.

(Or probably more like 50 or 55% of men, because women can be stupid, too)

The percentage of woman that are against abortion is gonna be a lot higher than you think. Though the real fun subset is the portion of those women who have had an abortion.

I'm choosing to believe a great many of the women who publicly declare they are against it will anonymously answer the poll truthfully.
