Funny (political, religious) pictures

I did some research on this and the truth seems a bit more mundane =/
Let me guess: Her English isn't perfect, and spoken with her accent Trump couldn't be bothered with her.

Or: Her English isn't perfect, and spoken with her accent Melania wouldn't let Trump talk to her out of jealousy.

It's one of those two, right?

I don't expect anyone here believed the headline at face value.

May have wanted it to be true, sure, but there's enough clickbait, satire, and fake news going around that, at least around here, I think most people eat these things with a huge grain of salt.

Besides, this is the funny pictures thread, so it's not meant to be taken seriously.[DOUBLEPOST=1514419705,1514419464][/DOUBLEPOST]

Trump said he was seated next to the Japanese first lady, who "doesn't speak English"—"like, not 'hello'"—so their conversation was lacking.
"There was one interpreter for Japanese, 'cause otherwise it would have been even tougher," he told the Times. "But I enjoyed the evening with her, and she's really a lovely woman, and I enjoyed—the whole thing was good."

Journalists on Twitter instantly seized upon the excerpt from the Times interview and pointed out that Trump's claim was likely incorrect. The Times’s Tokyo bureau chief, Motoko Rich, called it "a false note," while Guardian columnist Jessica Valenti hypothesized that Akie Abe had "pretended not to speak English for nearly two hours to avoid talking to Trump."

So essentially she has spoken english in prepared addresses before, but when fielding questions or in personal conversations she always uses an interpreter. Trump mentioned she doesn't speak english uyet was seated next to him, and others instantly theorized - since she does speak english to a degree - that she chose not to converse with him out of disrespect, rather than the more mundane reason that she likely didn't feel comfortable doing so without an interpreter to assure she doesn't make a mistake.

This was a short post for you ;)

But I don't know why you didn't just click laugh on my joke. :drunk:

I can't even remember the last time I saw a "full service" gas option. I've literally never had someone else pump my gas.

Years ago I think it was The Tonight Show (Leno) that did a skit where they went to one of the states that still had "only full serve" and had the attendant go "hey buddy, if you drive around back, we have a self-serve pump that is 3 cents cheaper!" (or whatever). They then filmed it. Hilarious in some ways, f'n dangerous in others. I'm surprised they were allowed to show the film. I'm glad they did though.

As for the post above, I particularly liked the image of "day 2 after self-serve gas" where it was a conflagration. That made me LOL.

it is only for rural counties where they cannot staff attendants 24 hours a day. Most of the state is still not self-serve. This of course makes the outcry even more ridiculous.

These people's minds would explode if they came to Belgium, with completely unmanned toll booths, unmanned gas stations, unmanned burger and pizza places (yes really, no I don't recommend them), unmanned supermarket cashier stations, and pretty much everything else.

I've been to not-self-serve tank stations...In the USA and in South Africa. And in the latter, that wasn't an actual job but homeless people trying to earn pennies by doing menial jobs for tourists.

We had the (mostly) unmanned food joints here in the US back in, like, the 1930s. But it turned out people preferred to order from people. Also, I'd say most tollbooths here are unmanned, unless you get in the ridiculously slow "change made" line.[DOUBLEPOST=1514918953,1514918832][/DOUBLEPOST]

I saw that part, but I don't really have an idea of how much of Oregon that will effect. It's not a state I've ever been to.

I generally prefer to DIY, especially at store checkouts. But if I have to put up with nightmare taxes, tollbooths every 50 ft., BENNY, MTV, Chris Christie, and all the literal amd figurative shit that washes down from NY, then by god, I'm not pumping my own gas!

My wife and I walked out of a store this evening, a truck drove past us with a strong smell of gasoline, we looked at each other and said "Amazing that the smell from Oregon has reached us already."

Virtually all gas stations in Taiwan are serviced, but the ones in the US when I lived there (in Maryland) were self-service. My dad taught me how to pump gas while we were in the States, and I am slightly disappointed that I never have the opportunity to use this knowledge and skill now that I'm back in Taiwan.

The phrase "taught me how to pump gas" is always weird to me. Exactly how much needs to be taught? Even if you've only ever experienced someone else pumping your gas, I feel like seeing them do it once would tell you everything you need to know.

You might think that, but after working in a service station for > 6yrs, I can tell you that there are still countless people who would benefit from additional training.

I'm pretty sure there are a LOT of people who have no clue they shouldn't:
- "top off" their tank
- smoke while pumping gas
- leave their engine running ("but my dog was in the car, what if they got hot?")
- get back into their car

And that's not counting people who aren't mechanically inclined enough to easily figure out how to use all the varying auto-shut-off latch mechanisms. I know it doesn't take most people very long, but I know people who are otherwise intelligent, but probably would give up before figuring out how to use it, either because of impatience, or fear that they'd break something by accident.

I'm more referring to the people who come in to complain their pump isn't working...because they haven't yet pressed the large yellow button with the blinking LED that reads PUSH TO START in large black letters.

Is it not normal for every gas station to print warnings against these very actions on every pump, plus a placard next to the pump, plus on the actual handle of the pump; or is that just because I've been living next to (and now in) Oregon for too long?

I have posted, in large lettering, right on the breakroom fridge above the ice dispenser, "DO NOT USE THE SETTING FOR CRUSHED ICE. IT CLOGS THE ICE DISPENSER."

Guess how often I have to chisel re-frozen blockages of crushed ice out of the dispenser each week? I'll give you a hint, it is a non-zero integer.

Yeah I was referring to the auto-shutoff latch, mainly. I don't think I would've figured that out by myself.
Well don't get too comfy about that, since many localities require that the auto-stop latch be forcibly removed to avoid the possibility of a nozzle malfunctioning and not shutting off.

I'll give you a hint, it is a non-zero integer.
I assume you meant non-zero whole number, or at least unsigned integer.
