DS9:

"For the Uniform"

Who wrote this drivel?

Gah. This is one of the major problems with star trek - too many different writers, all wanting to do different things with the characters. Some want Sisko to be reserved, some want to turn him into Ahab at the drop of a hat, and I get whiplash watching more than one episode at a time, often enough. Plus, there's no consequences for Sisko's behavior in this episode? It should have cost him his command.

Sigh.

The only thing DS9's writers seem to agree on is that Keiko is an intolerable shrew and Jake is a spectacularly sissified man-child.

I just meant that the writers decide that SOMEbody has to be the Mary Sue, and then we have to follow their every little adventure.

Keiko got drug to the ass end of the quadrant because Miles got transfered, had to give up her career as a botanist so his could advance, has a husband who would rather hang with his best friend at the bar than spend time with her (He fucking built a workshop in their bedroom!), and effectively lives on the intersection of two different warzones with her very small children. That's not counting the times she's almost been killed or been told that Miles has been killed. Or the school bombing. Or the time Miles was kidnapped and came back with 20 years of false memories of being in prison and she had to put up with it. This is just the stuff that has happened up to your current episode (For the Uniform, 109).

She has EVERY reason to be upset. Shit was bad on the Enterprise, but it wasn't THIS bad. The worst that happened to her there was getting turned into a kid and having Miles get possessed.

I'm just saying it's worth noting the Pah Wraith was a nicer fucking wife.

And that means it's writing/direction, not the actress, that is the problem.

I was going to say not to talk shit about Rosalind Chao. She's great.

But yeah, Keiko's life sucked and Miles was responsible for most of it, so she had a reason to be pissy, but the writers took it way too far.

Also: Finished watching Jessica Jones. That was intense but very well done.

3 episodes into Luke Cage. I love how it takes some of the trappings of Blaxploitation and uses them for a series about Black Empowerment. A smart, well acted show so far.

I binged ST 1 over the holiday because something felt off about 2. There is really no comparison. ST 1 >>>>>>>>>> ST 2. Season 2 is watchable, sure, and it's a damn sight better than most television now. But it lacked the mystery. On the technical side, the direction was far less inspired, too. There's no amazing shot of Hopper walking down the lab corridor into the Upside Down, for example.

I know what you mean. Unfortunately, villain (or in this case, mystery) decay was inevitable. You can only pop the "upside-down" cherry once.

Oh sweet baby Antichrist the first half of Crisis on Earth-X fucking RULED! It was SO awesome it stopped all the whiney fucking SJWs on Tumblr from bitching about nazis! And I AM an SJW too most of the time, THAT is how annoying they were.

I think another issue is that, character-wise, we're not in an appreciably different place than we could've been at the end of season 1. I think the only real changes that couldn't have believably happened earlier are Eleven and Hopper's daughter/father relationship and Steve's character growth.

But still, agreed, better than most television.

Two things,

I just recently started rewatching Brisco County, Jr.

It definitely still holds up.

Hail to the King!

Pour one whiskey out for Lord Bowler.

I finally got all the Earth-X CW episodes, I got to watch some of the Flash Ep live, but watching the vow scene I just realized The Greatest American Hero was performing the ceremony. *squee*

"That's the thing about being killed by Chinese death stars...thirty minutes later, you're alive again!"

That series always had SO MUCH going on, all at the same time.
You have to watch it multiple times in order to catch it all.

The Orville is adding words to the dictionary.

laforge -- verb -- to promote a bridge officer to the head of engineering

Ex: "Last night on #TheOrville , they laforged Lt. LaMarr."

Star Trek's been doing it for years. Just wait till they O'Brien a guy into the main cast.

So I'm catching up on The Flash. I was hesitant to after episode 6, which was by FAR the worst of the whole show.

But this episode, showing The Thinker's origin? FANTASTIC.

What I love most is it's kind of another "Goddammit Barry" episode, but it's The Thinker playing Barry like a violin. He WEAPONIZED "Goddammit Barry."

So.............

Is IT Crowd one of those shows that grows a beard? Because I tried the pilot, and it was nothing but boring, overused "weird computer guy" tropes.

As the series progresses it becomes less about computer guy stuff. But I liked the computer guy stuff. They stop saying "Hello IT have you tried turning it off and on again" by the third episode.

Yeah, it gets better. I don't remember it being much about technology jokes but rather about the weird personalities of the main characters.
Yeah, that's true even of the pilot. But the personality jokes so far are off-the-shelf and done to death.
