Only series the girlfriend and I have played through together and she generally dislikes shooters.
Borderlands 2 was the last game I played with Pauline. We were in the middle of the Torgue DLC when she finally got too sick to play anymore.

I played through BL1 solo. I agree that it was a mediocre experience single-player. I can also see how it would've been improved by playing with someone else.

Now I'm wondering if the next borderlands is what my brother's working on. He's all secretive about it, but says it should be obvious if you follow gearbox at all...

I think Borderlands is the only series Gearbox has that's in any way successful. Battleborn was trounced by Overwatch, Aliens: Colonial Marines flopped hard, Duke Nukem Forever wasn't worth the wait...

Unless it's We Happy Few? That one's coming out soon, right? Are Gearbox just publishing it or are they contributing to its development too?

Well... they did make a couple decent expansions for a little game called "Half Life."

GOG.com Connect is not dead. For the next two days if you own Torchlight and/or Torchlight 2 on Steam, you can add them to your GOG.com account for free.

They're also having a sale on some great RPGs.

Torchlight $3.74
Torchlight 2 $4.99
Grim Dawn $7.49
Titan Quest AE $4.99

and some others.
Also, free torchlight I and II if you own them through the website of the publisher, or through humble bundle, through different links. Basically, no matter how or where you own them, you can get a backup through gog now.

Hand of Fate is really cool and pretty replayable. Armello is decent enough as well. Don't have much experience with the others.

Steam's been trying REAL HARD to get me to buy Hurtworld for the last year or so, but the gameplay looks just a skosh too low rent/asset flipper/"Generic store/value-brand Rust" to me...

One thing that I think changed from 3 to 4 was 3 used squares on the map and 4 used hexes. Hexagon-maps are a love it or hate it kinda thing, and I prefer squares even if they aren't as "realistic" for traveling.

I don't remember exactly what it was, but I remember 4 changed something, and I was all "I wish this was still how it was in 3."
My guess? Cultural domination. In Civ 3, you literally didn't need to do ANYTHING to acquire enemy territory; if you had enough culture getting pumped out, cities would dump their civ's and join you automatically. Dunno if that was still in 4, but I know it was gone by 5.

Was that 3 - 4, or 4-5?

I also want to say they changed something about combat that made it a lot more difficult to take a city in 4, but I don't remember what that change was.
