[NHL] Game of Thrones on Ice (aka the NHL Hockey Thread)

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced Sunday that the team has acquired defenceman Cody Franson and forward Mike Santorelli from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Nashville’s first-round selection in the 2015 Draft, and forwards Brendan Leipsic and Olli Jokinen.
WE'RE GETTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER!

Franson actually gives us an upgrade defensively, too.

(I think I just heard every forward in the Western Conference shudder when I typed that.)

I'm just glad we're plummeting to the bottom of the standings and don't have to worry about it.[DOUBLEPOST=1424047101,1424047028][/DOUBLEPOST]Also I'm curious to see what we get for Jokinen, since we can't possibly be trying to keep him (How does a 36 year old who doesn't want to be there fit into a rebuild?).

He just got his hair cut, so you won't have anyone admiring his "flow" for a while.

Other than that... Uh, if you're expecting the Olli Jokinen of old, you're going to be in for a rude awakening.

He is a quintessential Leaf player, 14 years in the league, 6 playoff games. He's finally found a place to call home!

Meanwhile, Middle Tennessee has suddenly turned into Saskatoon. Snow, bitter cold temps, icy roadways, and a distinct chance that the game against San Jose might be postponed.

Seven saves in a single Sharks' power play, and four on one scoring chance.

Superman wears Pekka Rinne underwear. :minionhappy:

The Pens will be an easy mark in the playoffs. The rest of the Patrick Division has their number. Just punch them in the mouth a few times (or hack a few ankles), and they lose focus completely. :(

This is why there's talk we're after Lucic.

But we still have Angry Shea to deal with in case someone gets a little too close to Pekka.

At least you got what you wanted out of the game. We got a point.

Also, I've been to four games this year. They've all been shootouts.

I hate the shootout. The one we had with the Sabres gave us Van Halen for the franchise:

Always one more, you're never satisfied
Never for all with you, it's only one for me
So, why draw the line? Meet you half the way
When you don't know what that means

I would totally start a fight with Weber just to try and break his fist on my face. Easiest way to deal with him really.

Toronto just traded David Clarkson to Columbus for Nathan Horton.

Need to do a Snoopy Happy Dance now.
So you'd rather have a LTIR player instead of a guy who couldn't hack playing in the GTA?

Sad. TO is the place people "think" everyone wants to play - until they actually play there.

UPDATE: Jagr to Florida for picks.

It's a great win-win trade. Columbus gets a person who can play, Toronto gets rid of a terrible contract without using the buy-out clause.

Um, who are these "everyone" that "think" they want to play in Toronto? Nobody wants to play in Toronto, last weeks survey confirmed that.

After a very lackluster game against the Wild tonight, a poster on another Hockey-related board expressed his displeasure with Franson's play since arriving in Nashville:

I haven't seen the greatness Toronto fans were claiming yet that's for sure.....
To which one of our regular posters returned the obvious:

Do you think that Toronto fans can recognize a good player anymore?

Yeah, nobody wants to play in Toronto and it's not exactly a secret. The most intense media, the most bipolar fan base, the worst arena atmosphere... even the hometown boys by and large would rather play just about anywhere else.

Clarkson is an exception, but he's a terrible one at tat price and for that long a term. Can't believe we got rid of that contract.

And yeah, we'd rather have a $5mil guy on LTIR than Clarkson. That's $5mil mil off our bulging cap hit, and MLSE probably spends more than that on board room lunches in a year.
