Minor victory thread

How so? Not challenging that, but legitimately curious. I'd like to know why before actually joining. I went in today and it seemed fine. Nothing too pushy, I could stop and take breaks if I needed to (and I fucking needed to), everyone seemed nice.

The only alarming thing was the waiver saying "If you die it's not our fault" but I kind of feel like all gyms have that.
In my experience it's dangerous because NO ONE uses proper form with what they're doing, which means injuries. Lots and lots of injuries. Nearly everyone I know who has done crossfit (and since my job is in the fitness industry, I know a lot of people that try a lot of things) has injured themselves. Since the work is really challenging it's much worse if your form isn't good. Other work outs, yes you can hurt yourself if you're not doing it properly, but crossfit is a whole other level, in my opinion, so you really must use all the proper forms to keep yourself, your body safe.

So, I mean, if you're aware of yourself and someone shows you safe ways to do the exercises, you should be okay.

I've been doing crossfit for about a year now and I have suffered no injuries. You have to be selective with your gyms. Remember anyone with enough money to get a level 1 cert can coach, but I see it as being less dangerous than sending someone into golds gym with a general membership and saying have at it. At least there is a small amount of supervision in crossfit classes.

Well, I definitely proved that I know when to stop, because I stopped about 2 rounds into the workout, leaving about 6 minutes left out of a 10 minute clock. I can easily see people who DON'T know when to stop, who think they HAVE to go as long as the clock, getting injured. The trainers did seem to be big on proper form. Anytime I did anything not quite right-- even having my feet placed an inch too close together-- they'd correct it. They also showed me common mistakes that people make in form. So, it seems alright.

(and since my job is in the fitness industry,
Out of curiosity, any recommendations beyond CrossFit? I'm not dead set on it, I'm just looking for a good way to stay motivated, and going to a class/group every other day (and paying to do so) is about what it takes. Working out at home isn't cutting it anymore.

That's good to hear.

It's hard to recommend things because, in my opinion, you should try a bunch of things and see what actually suits you and what you like.

If Crossfit gets you out and keeps you motivated, that's great. Go for it! :D You could also shop around for a personal trainer - all the ones I've dealt with have been great, and not as expensive as one would think. I absolutely loved mine before she moved. :(

Maybe you could shop around your town to see if there are any other classes offered? I mean, I don't know what kind of town you're in, but I'm a huge fan of Interval Training, so just about anything that falls into that category I think is great. So, Crossfit, Tabata, (I use dailyhiit.com - but it's all at home, so that may not work for you.), swimming is a great work out and maybe there's a class you could go to for that.

I'm also just going to throw out, having active hobbies is also a fun way to keep in shape. So, maybe go hiking (right @BananaHands ?? ;) HAA!) or biking, maybe there's a group of people that go play Ultimate Frisbee or something. Just staying active outside of your workouts is important, I think.

I wish I could be more helpful, I'm happy to do some more research for you if there's anything specific you want to know about?

Caved. Bought Adobe Elements 12. It has everything my old 5.5 had and some more. Very pleasantly surprised.

-lots of stuff-
Appreciated! I checked out the site but it seemed a bit much for me. However, I did check out some other gyms. I found one that offers a 3-day trial--- like, I can go to the gym and use ANYTHING I want there for 3 entire days. The girl behind the counter was like, "We even have a pool, hot tub, and sauna if you just want to make a day of it. :)"

This place was way nicer than the gym/warehouse that the CrossFit place had, and it does have a bit of a safer feel to it. It's also literally next door to a hospital so if I do injure myself, I'm where I need to be. ;D

I'm going to go try a few classes with them before deciding.

For another, slightly related minor victory, I try to keep my meals around 300 calories, so I like to see what I can cram into a meal. Today I focused on a sandwich, and managed to find 40 calorie bread (so 80 total), 40 calorie ultra thin swiss (120 so far), turkey slices (depending on how much I use, about 40 calories, so 160), some spinach and light mayo (I use very little, let's say another 30, so 190). I usually stop there, but today I wanted to jazz it up and added some turkey pepperoni, adding on about 35 calories. So, I have a filling, delicious sandwich for under 250 calories. Satisfying!

I hadn't made any perler bead art lately but I got a strange urge last night to make something. So I ended up making Sokka from Avatar: The Last Airbender! :)

Sokka next to a ruler for scale (his face is a little chubbier than I intended)

And Sokka next to Aang and Katara that I made a few months ago :)

Next up will be Toph and Zuko! :)

I contacted the rescue place that our veterinarian referred us to after bringing in our last rat's remains for cremation. Though losing him is still very raw, that's not going to change for a long time and the rats rescued from the hoarder (why the fuck do people do this?!) need homes ASAP.

Well, the woman who runs the rescue got back to me, are interested. Just gotta pass an application and interview and we could be taking as many as four girl rats in. This would be a huge relief for the rescue since they have almost 40 to find homes for, and our cage is plenty big enough.

Even better though, all the girls will be spayed already. That's $1,200 we won't have to spend.

Call me weird, but I like not having to spend $1, 200.

That's not why I think you're weird. I think you're weird for wanting 4 rats.

Then again, they are confined to a cage, and aren't cats that go everywhere and annoy the shit out of you.
We're actually going to need to get locks for the cage or else they will be everywhere. Girl rats are smarter and more easily bored than boys, and though we'll get them toys to challenge them, eventually they will start playing with the doors.

>joined a different gym class
>like it much better
>my legs are jelly
>arms are jelly
>everything is jelly
>i am a gummy bear

so jelly.
I woke up after my first day in martial arts class back in high school.
I actually thought something was wrong with me because I couldn't move my arms or legs.
First day of class had been to crab walk laps around the gym, and then run up and down the bleachers a few times.

I wrote a story on the /r/writingprompts subreddit that was pretty well received, to the point where people are coming up with their own headcanons to explain some of the plot points.

It feels very good to have written something that people can get intellectually and emotionally invested in.

Until this post, I thought "headcanon" was just a thing Randall Monroe stuck in a comic.

I just finished watching Kill La Kill a couple of nights ago and I felt inspired to make a bleach stencil shirt in honor of it! :D

-------------edit--------------------

I made a Kingdom Hearts shirt last night :)

Since it did get brought up, I should mention, I did get to meet up with Bananahands!! :D He wanted to go hiking, so he picked a canyon (a really remote one I might add. Spicious.) and we met up. It was a really great time. :) We chatted, wandered up the trail, played on the boulders, I had a lot of fun! Even if it was hard for me to say so - I'm really shy. Then we went for lunch and his friend and I hit it off! She finds serial killers just as fascinating as I do, so we talked a lot about that, while poor Bananahands was left out. :( Sorry!

Overall, it was really awesome! I'm glad we got to meet up. :D I hope the rest of your trip went well @BananaHands. Tell Julie I miss her.

(Also, I took his remaining kidney; don't let him fool you, he was a willing participant!)
