The vehicle I was riding in:

The guy that turned in front of us

You can see the secondary impact on the back of the Lexus... our front ends hit at about a 60 degree angle, and it spun us all around so hard our back ends had a secondary collision. When it was happening, it felt like 4 or 5 seconds between impacts, but I guess that's that "it all seemed like slow motion" effect people talk about, because it couldn't have been more than a half second, in retrospect.

Doesn't look too bad. Everyone thank auto engineers. The work they've done in the past 50+ years is amazing.

I was tboned at 60mph and I swear the spinning lasted 30 full seconds. It's ridiculous and super frightening. Glad you're ok.

The coffee shop just down the street from my workplace has closed down.

They didn't have particularly great coffee or anything. Heck, I didn't even go in all that often. It's just that they had this really cute girl who'd work behind the counter most mornings, and I liked seeing her through the window as I walked by on my way to work. She reminded me of a Taiwanese version of Emilia Clarke.

You are the human equivalent of the little dog that goes around humping everyone's leg.

I came to whine about my sister’s terrifying political values.

And the fact that she isn’t polite enough not to discuss them with family. She knows that we’re polar opposites in that respect. Once I learned that, I’ve been respectful enough not to say anything that would start a debate. She deliberately tries to pick fights. I steer the conversation to makeup and other silly things because I know it drives her nuts. We have a diverse extended family and she was in our huge family chat telling them about her views and her kid’s pretend election and how a certain political party isn’t allowed to participate.

Went to the doctor today and found out that I have...well, we have no idea. They did an EKG, stress test, took blood and cleaned about a century's worth of shit out of my ears. Seriously, I had major blockage in both ears. They couldn't see the ear canal with a scope. You'd think they'd have noticed this before but whatever.

No idea what's going on at this point. We're waiting for the tests to come back for our next step, which includes either an ENT specialist or even a brain scan if whatever I have doesn't clear up.

Oh, but I had a real @bhamv3 moment. My regular doctor was out and the doctor I did get was stunningly beautiful. Like "porn doctor" beautiful. She was used to kids or really, really old people though. She talked to me like I was a child. Annoying but I put up with it somehow.

No but she was very "touchy". When she talked she's touch you on your leg or shoulder or arm. Her outfit was what was distracting. She wore the white coat but her shirt was very low cut so it looked like she was ONLY wearing the white coat. I think if cheesy music had started playing I'd have not been surprised.

.
Doctor: I see nothing wrong with you, you're perfectly healthy for an 80 year old man.

Dave: What? I'm not 80

Doctor: Oh my god we need to get you to the ER stat.

Did she have a sister who is a lifeguard?

Dontcha hate getting snarled at for not doing what you weren't told to do? "Grrr... she didn't do what I told her to do." That's because she didn't do it, *I* did. And I was never told that was how you wanted it done. So I did it the way I had been TRAINED to do it.

The other shoe finally dropped from the hospital stay. $7600. Yeah, that was the deductible for my insurance plan, but OW. Meanwhile, my car needs front end work. Strong vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds, a whub whub whub whub from the right front under heavy braking like slowing down to take a downhill exit ramp, and now grinding from the same side after a bit of driving (especially after taking a couple of roundabouts.)

I've held off on the car repairs because I wanted to scrape up enough cash to take care of it myself. Depending on the damage done, I might (?) have enough to do it next payday. I hope. A replacement is simply out of the question.

I've followed and retweeted that Bill Pulte who has been handing out money on twitter, but there I'm at the mercy of the RNG. Plus I tend to be more politically angry than anything else over there. But that's on me.

This isn't a plea (who am I kidding? I'll take whatever's out there, but I know you all have your own needs.), but a statement of facts. I need to muddle through this without having to constantly depend on others.

Keep in mind that most hospitals will take payments, and you don't have to dump it all at once.

The problem is to make those payments, something else has got to go. Like the car repairs. And they *don't* take payments. I've had to sit on that for months because other regular bills have taken precedence to make sure I've got insurance, phone, and a place to stay. As for now, rent isn't an issue. For now. Just as I was getting out of that hole and was getting the breathing room to finally get the repairs done, the heart attack hit.

Our IT situation at work is bafflingly and needlessly bad. Once we migrate, we won’t be able to continue our work. I’ve only been warning them for like 9/10 months about one of the problems, but no one listens.

I was given a contact and wrote out everything again....just to get a response of “you’ve written to the wrong place”. At least they said something. Usually it’s a several week wait for email tickets to be be adressed and most of my other emails have been ignored.

Internet Explorer, Bing and no option to update anything.

Please end my suffering now.

The real test today won’t be at the end of my required online training, it will be if I can complete this foolishness without going bananas.

Bad: being up since 1:30AM with a cough

Silver lining: discovering online that I'd misunderstood my dietary changes with a medication and that combo has been ruining my sleep, so at least I have something to start fixing soon

Yesterday was fiscal year end for work and I spent last night trick or treating at an event run by a helicopter parent that couldn't organize a cup of coffee.

But my wife is awesome and cute and intelligent and gave me some very good advice. " If you can't say anything nice, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!"

This week (Nov 4-10) I am on a week of study leave - reading, writing stuff for fancy academic publications, taking a class, etc. But still available in case of emergency.

Dammit.

First day, - one of my homebound folks dies. She was in hospital the week before, but seemed to be stable. Nope!

Fine. I can deal with adding a funeral to this. I lose maybe 8-12 hours of cont ed time.

Hahahahaha!

Oh was I wrong.

This family is a gong show. I love them dearly, and their mom was a really lovely person, but holy crap.

I've probably already spent 16+ hours on this service, and I still have to meet with the family (3 siblings, and possibly a niece) tomorrow; and the service itself (a 2-hour affair! At their insistence!! Plus the reception, plus the burial) is on Saturday afternoon.

I have never, ever, spent this much time on a funeral service. Not even the accidental and gory drowning death of a young father required this much hand-holding and detail changing.

So I get home and flick on the hallway light switch. The light sputters and goes out. No problem I got a huge number of brand new LED bulbs ready to replace all over the house. So I unscrew the light fixture and...
