Whine like a baby, now with 500% more drama!

Me yesterday: Oh look, an old carrot from my garden! Hey dad, will this be good to eat?

Dad: Wash it off, it'll probably be okay.

Me yesterday: Awesome!

7 hours of food poison induced nastyness later.

Me yesterday: Not awesome.

Just how old was this carrot, and how was it stored? Carrots don't usually carry the bacteria that causes food poisoning, especially if washed. And if it were decayed enough to stat building up toxins, I'm pretty sure you'd have noticed.

I wanna know whether he put it down on the cutting board after deboning that chicken.

Chicken stew several days ago, and it was delicious.

I guess kinda old, it was in a planter for a month or two. It didn't look that bad when I plucked it but when I bit into it it had the most FOUL taste that triggered the nastyness.

I still think there had to be some cross contamination, or maybe you got sick from somewhere else. A rotten carrot will taste bad, but it's not going to cause your system to go on full reverse.

Also, next time something tastes bad, spit it out.

True, true. It could've also been a radish, they look really similar to the carrots we grew. Does that make more sense?

If you can't tell the difference between a radish and a carrot, even after you've already eaten it, you -really- shouldn't be eating it in the first place.

Yeah, lesson learned.

In other news, hurricane winds have knocked off my deck's fence! Its okay though, as it was all ready apparently rotting from the inside! And by okay I mean I'm kinda worried if the rest of the deck is just as rotten.

2 hours of waiting for KOTOR to install, right when it finishes I get a text from my girlfriend reminding me that I promised to help her with some work

grumble grumble...

I noticed on my way home from work tonight that my car seemed to be pulling to the right a bit. Not terribly much, but enough that I had to hold the wheel ever-so-slightly to the left to keep from drifting within the lane. It became more pronounced the further I drove. Yeah... right front tire is flat.

If that's all it is, for a change, I'd say you've got at least a littel bit of luck. Last time my car pulled to one side, the car ended up being recycled...:/
It's the luckiest I've been with my car for a while, but the tires are bald enough that I won't be able to get this one repaired, I'll have to replace at least the front two. But that's ok, it was time to get some snow tires anyway.

To be sure, it's still only comparatively lucky. Not having car issues would most certainly be preferable.

5 hours of sleep.

4 hours of sleep.

I don't like this pattern of the last few nights. I can't go back to sleep either--once I'm up, I'm up. Gonna try taking some Tylenol PM tonight and hopefully get 7 hours in for tonight ... but it's gonna be a long day until then.

Might want to limit liquid intake a couple of hours prior to bed, too. And no caffeinated beverages 6 hours before bed, and all that.

Hope it gets better. I went through that all last year. I finally got into a routine that works for me. No caffeine after 3 pm, at least an hour of intense activity, evening shower with lavendar-scented-something, warm milk or tea, and about 15 minutes of yoga relaxation poses. If I do all this, I don't even need the sleeping pills anymore. It makes me no fun at all from Monday - Thursday, but I'm not grouchy and sick all the time either.

I have a sleep specialist I see, because my sleep problems are... ridiculous. However, this PDF on sleep hygiene is where we started, and many of the habits have helped me. I ultimately need drugs to help me sleep, but some or all of this might make your rest better:
http://www.beh-mht.nhs.uk/Downloads...y/BEHMHT Resources Sleep Hygiene Leaflet1.pdf

For me, I especially endorse not using the bed for anything other sleeping/sex (don't read in bed!), and if you don't get to sleep in 30 minutes, get up, sit in another room for 15/20 mins (you can read, or meditate, etc), and then go back to bed and try again: the idea here is that if you stay in bed while restless, you may associate the bed as a place of anxiety or sleeplessness instead of sleep.

Additionally, be sure you're not using your phone/TV/Computer/DS/etc etc anything with an electronic screen. The light, most specifically the blue light, causes upsets in your circadian rhythm:
There's a neat program called f.lux: http://justgetflux.com which filters the blue light from your computer monitor (it can be timed to your location's sunset) which supposedly helps with the stimulating blue light making you restless. I don't know if it really helps with that or not, but anecdotally I do suffer less eye strain in the evenings when it kicks in, so that's a nice perk regardless of whether or not my sleep is impacted.

I appreciate all the resources and advice.

My problem isn't getting to sleep--I drop like a log--but staying asleep is a challenge. I took the pills last night not to get me to sleep, but to keep me down, because even if I go to bed early, I still wake up after only a few hours. Lately if I go to bed at 11:00, I'm up at 4:00. Go to bed at 1:00, I'm up at 6:00 or 7:00.

Last night I took the pills, went to bed at 10:00-something, woke up close to 6:00. So that's decent. Hopefully I can repeat it with some of the tips in this thread. Thanks, guys.

Ugh, I hear you. I suffered this as well for years. I hope something works out.

I just need one week where things go mostly right. I'm not asking for much, just one friggin' week where at least 4 bad things don't happen to my wife and/or I, or our apartment, or our cars. This past week? Yeah... it was bad. I don't want to go into full details, because I've kind of already wallowed in my misfortunes enough, and because then I'd have to put this in the really real rant thread, but it's been a while since I had a genuinely good week, and it's really starting to get exhausting.
