I beat it a long time ago. Played it again recently and for the life of me can't figure out how I did it.

Well, I can't speak to your character, but mine has AE bleed massive damage over time with knockback that feels stupidly overpowered. Except on ghosts and skeletons, I actually have to try against undead because they don't bleed.

I accidentally killed the Herald of The Flame, a level 40 boss, when I was 32 because I got lost trying to find Homestead (I did die a couple times though). Was funny to walk in there and have the guy say "I need these cannons" and I was all "Well I already secured them."

I just bought Heavensward/Stormblood. I’m hoping my exp bar is turned back on :)

After this $&@%#!! hockey is over of course. /cry
I finished the main story :)

I went with a FC group and some others and they were cool with all the cutscene waiting. It made the whole thing way better. All 1,000 cutscenes every ten steps. Seriously.

I then watched a gigantic one.

And then?

More main quests it would seem??
I'm sorry to report that my post from last week remains accurate: You have 100 more quests to do before your exp bar unlocks and you can do Heavensward. https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Seventh_Astral_Era_Quests

Somebody in chat was complaining about this the other night, and somebody reminded them that there was 2 years between A Realm Reborn release (August 2013) and Heavensward (June 2015) so they have "a fair amount" of patches and/or content they released between them to hold people over. For better or for worse it's similar between Heavensward and Stormblood, though fewer quests for that transition (only 44).

This is honestly the thing I hate the most about this game. The gatekeeping is insane.

Actually after I bought the expansions, my experience bar unlocked. My Summoner level is now 53 ish and my Fishing is 56.

I am working through some more main quests now. However, I want to level up some trade skills a bit before I move on. I still have 20+ days of free trial left, I have lots of time to weave. Or mine...or goldsmith or botany

While on one level I agree, on another level it really HAS kept the worst of the idiots out of PUGs. To be in a 50+ dungeon you HAD to do the ones before it. At least once.

It's not perfect, but compared to other MMOs I've played, IMO it helps.

And Squids, I'm surprised it worked that way. Maybe they changed it, because 2-3 years ago, that was NOT the case. It DEFINITELY locked me to 50.

That said if you're going to offer accelerated leveling to 60, you should at least offer a way to shortcut the *100* quests between Realm Reborn and Heavensward, because the gatekeeping really makes the exp boost worthless.

You can, for a price.

All that said, the end of those 100 quests was pretty satisfying. It's just the first, I don't know, 90 or so that are a real slog ...

I will say this: the mid-season between Stormblood->Shadowbringers is heads and tails better than the ARR stuff and the Heavensward->Stormblood stuff is at least relevant to the story (and is important to story come Shadowbringers). I never felt like I wanted to skip any of it.

Something to consider as well: If you reach a point in the ARR->Heavensward stuff where you feel like killing yourself, go to Ul'dah and talk to Wymond to start "The Rise and Fall of Gentlemen". It's the start to the Hildibrand story line and it's just the antidote you need to get over the boring story blues. Every mid-season has their own Hildibrand stuff with it's own story and rewards... I highly suggest doing them, if only because they are BONKERS and you'll get some cool emotes out of them.

Him and Ash, because they both keep saying IF YOU JUST SLOG THROUGH THESE BILLIONS OF QUESTS, THE LAST FEW ARE GREAT.
I don't excuse like... 60% of the Seventh Astral Age stuff because NOTHING HAPPENS during most of it. The Moogle stuff is boring but has a great, funny trial. The Maelstrom stuff is boring, but has a fun trial. The Slyph stuff is boring and the trial isn't that awesome (but I do like the crafted weapons from it). That's -57- quests until you hit the "Dreams of Ice" stuff and actually get some lead in to Heavensward. But from there on? It's good and some of it's even great.

So honestly? Skip most of the story until you hit "Traitor in the Midst". That's when it picks up and you'll actually care about the story (or at least have story stuff going on that is IMPORTANT for Heavensward).

I have no such feelings about the stuff between Heavensward and Stormblood and the stuff between Stormblood and Shadowbringerss. It's all good, likely because they weren't being rushed and doing everything on half the budget.

I like to stop and read notes and bask in lore and ambiance and exhaust every conversation tree and enjoy the experience, but when you add more people into the mix it's all GO GO GO KILL LOOT LET'S GO WHY IS THIS TAKING SO LONG COME ON HURRY UP GO GO KILL GO KILL GO KILL and next thing I know I'm killing something and I don't know the reason why other than exp and loot and it just takes me RIGHT OUT of the experience and I lose interest.
I’m very similar, but that’s why I’ll do a solo playthrough so I can read all the books, hear all the convos, etc. before I start going multi. And I’ll be honest, after you’ve had to hear how much someone’s stomach hurts a few BILLION times, you’ll skip it every time it tries to come up, too.

One thing I like about this game, definitely, is that it has a different status indicator over an NPC's head based upon whether or not he has unread conversation paths available, even if they aren't quests per se.

File that post by Ravenpoe in the dictionary under Stockholm Syndrome.
I had hoped the ... At the end would indicate the sarcasm, but I guess just insert a /s in there.

That part of the game was bad. I really wish it wasn't, because the rest is great, and the finale of that part had me watching a 40 minute cutscene and shocked/yelling at my monitor every second of it.

I have a buff called the Road to 60 or the Path to 60 and my experience is apparently accelerated. Combined with Free Company experience and the Preferred World Experience, I barely had to do many side quests.

Is it bad that Fishing is my highest level right now?

Your level doesn't matter, it's the main quest progression that is a slog. You'll know you've finished it when you can finally go to Ishgard.

This, @Squidleybits . The 50-60 range of quests requires you to go to Ishgard and the 60-70 require Kugane, so there are limits. That said... if you like crafting? Take advantage of the Road to 60 and get ALL of your crafting and gathering to 60 before the devs turn it off on your server at some point.

Any tips for that btw? If there an efficient route to level up crafting? A place to farm mats? Am I going to have to accumulate a frak-ton of gil before getting down to leveling them up?

You don’t need too much cash, or at least I haven’t yet.

What are you looking to level and how far? I can offer some specific suggestions if you’d like :)

I will offer some general advice, though. Just like the combat classes, you can have cross-job skills in trade skills too. If you have everything at 15, there are a bunch of skills you can share between them (their level 15 skills) which help you make HQ stuff.

So, when weaving, I have access to the carpentry, culinarian, goldsmith, leatherworking and alchemy level 15 skills and it’s a big help. The crafting class quests ask for HQ turn ins. Those are expensive if you want to buy them on the market boards. Making them yourself is way cheaper.

There are basically three ways to do it:

- Level up your gatherers first and use a guide that tell you EXACTLY of how much and of what to gather along the way. Then follow another guide and make EXACTLY what it says.
- Do lots and lots of Ixali Beast Tribe stuff for 1-50. In fact, doing Beast Tribe stuff will unlock buyable crafting goods from their vendors. Ixali have wood and sticks, Slyph have thread and fabric. I think lizard guys have ore and the kobolds have random junk bits. This can make it cheaper to do stuff.
- Have gil. Do Leves. Look at a guide to know which leves are the best.

Doing all three isn't a terrible idea.

To be frank, the 1-50 crafting experience sucks because of how heavily it relies on doing Leves and on how much it relies on you having skills from other classes. To put this in perspective, you basically NEED to level CUL to 50 JUST so you have Hasty Touch, Steady Hand 2, and Careful Synthesis for other classes, 15 from GSM for Manipulation, and 15 from ARM for Rapid Synthesis. CRP to 50 for Beregot's Brow isn't a bad idea ether. Those are your most important skills from 1-50 and you don't get better versions until the 60's.

Once you hit 50, you can do Moogle Beast Tribe for good XP gains every day and at 60 you can do Namazu. Namazu Beast Tribe is great, I get 1.4+ mil xp per a crafting mission so it takes like a week and half to go from 60-70 from just that.

Right now they will sell me velveteen and linen which is a huge help!

I mean I will have to get off my butt and work on botany eventually, but this is great.

On a totally different note, I made the mistake of going to the Mog Station. Good Lord, the silly stuff there! And I want it all!!!

I appreciate that they make a lot of silly stuff available for free too. For instance, my latest emote (as done by a lala)...

Most of the Mogstation stuff is just old holiday stuff you can't get anymore, special deal items from regions outside the US, or stuff from the fanfest... but some of it is exclusive to the store.

Yeaah, I think I'm about done with grim dawn. It just keeps getting more and more "grindy," everything takes longer than it should, and 90% of the game I just can coast through by holding down my left mouse button and aiming the cursor at stuff.

Falling deeper into the CC rabbit hole. Grabbing a whole bunch of the Newsea hair because most of them come in ginger. Found more than a few perfect Dead Anime Mom hairstyles.

Gonna play around with it a bit after work, but TIL you can use MCCC to paste over sims with ones saved in your library. In other words, if I read it right, you don't need to make a new save to have a makeover townie you downloaded in your game.
