Tonight the entire Portland protest got swooped. The whole fucking thing. By some dude from LA, but maybe it's Florida, or maybe it's Alabama, and they did lead one Seattle-centric cheer, so it might be Seattle. Wherever he was from, he got a megaphone and got in front of everyone and chewed people up one side and down the other until they got pissed off, hurt, confused, or afraid, and left. At several points in the evening he would single out white individuals in the crowd and ask to see their permission slip - signed by their black friend - that gave them permission to be rioting in the streets of Portland. So... that was fun to watch.
So, we now have an attempt at legal justification by the government for why they must allow federal law enforcement agents to protect their streets - they accepted aid from the CARES act. You take Federal Aid, you take Federal Troops and Federal Command. Oh, and OSP Agents have been deputized as Federal Agents this entire time. So not only did the feds not leave, they deputized all of their "non-federal replacements" to be feds. The headline of this article focuses on prosecution - because the initial claim was that since the MCDA wasn't going to prosecute the city and county's charges against protesters, the feds were going to prosecute them for federal crimes that took place on city and county properties, under the jurisdiction granted them by Portland/Oregon accepting Coronavirus aid; but it speaks to the general tension in the city of, if they're willing to claim this, then how long until they claim <insert terrible thing here>.
Lots of violence tonight, not so many arrests, because the DA made a big announcement about how he was dismissing 500+ protest related charges and wouldn't be prosecuting any future charges on most of the riot and protest related charges that can be laid at the misdemeanor level, and some of the Class C Felony riot charges. Now the cops are even angrier, and they were largely on their own all night, because all of their fed buddies were in Bend trying to retrieve a couple of detainees that they'd failed to kidnap because community members stopped the buses from leaving. Sadly, because the community stalled until the feds arrived, they lost. There was no way Bend, with the limited supplies they had at the ready, was going to stand up to BORTAC. And they didn't. This was for two ICE detainees, one of whom was a child who was already in detention, but they still busted into his room and seized him in the most violent way possible - because fucking ICE. They got a brutal lesson in what the Feds do to people who get in their way, and they lost their community members, but they stood up to the attack and refused to back down.
That being said, there have been reports of ICE raids across the state today, as reprisal for... whatever Trump needs to distract from now. We don't actually have an Oregon State Patrol anymore, depending upon your interpretation of that federal mandate about us receiving aid - we may just have the Federal Patrol of Oregon now. And DHS is making no attempts to hide their vehicles in downtown anymore. We'll see what happens as the week progresses. I may be looking for a place to stay in the Portland area this weekend - at least overnight one night.

Alrighty then, seems like things are finally hitting the boil-over point in Portland, pushed over the edge by the bravery displayed by the citizens of Bend, as well as a few well placed speeches from black leaders and white accomplices alike. The dad pod has started posting their tactical observations on how to better wear down the cops - put them in situations that they have to surrender themselves out of, or force them to up the numbers of officers in the streets to such high levels that they start burning themselves out of staffing - a war of attrition. Multiple black and indigenous leaders are pointing out better ways to respond to pushes, how to flank your enemy, going back over how to de-arrest your comrades, and the fact that these protests are, by definition, a disruptive act, not a peaceful one. So hopefully tonight there won't be any success for the swoopers, who have now been identified as Instagram "models." You know, like I'm a "shipbuilder" in Empyrion. It's all been a big fucking ad campaign of cops and models. They've been flying/caravaning to cities all around the country telling people how to protest, all reading from the same script, and there are at least a dozen of them, plus all the followers they're inspiring to do the same thing. Putting down your own people and trying to derail their revolution for Instagram clout, smdh.
We have been having a bit of a police issue here in Austin, though not nearly as bad as Portland or Seattle as our protests were not as large. Today, the City Council officially slashed the police budget by a third of it's original budget and will be moving that money to other services like public health. It's definitely a start.

Oy, the drama. This is going to be far less of an after action report and much more of "As Portland Turns." In the past 24 hours in Portland we've had several reports of violent attacks committed against any and all white people and women from a black group... except that the black group is led by an armed felon and a known neo-Nazi. So, they've broken the windows out of cars, curb stomped two women nearly to death, broken into the snack van and stolen all of the snacks, medical supplies, and Jeva's belongings, and just generally been violent assholes. Three weeks ago when all of their abuses started, the rest of the protest community was asked by specific black elders to leave the matter to them. Three weeks have passed, and the group is only getting more violent, and the same black elders who asked us not to get involved three weeks ago are demanding that we (white allies) tell them (black elders) what we think they should do. Because that's not a big fucking trap. So now we're at an impasse and the only things that've been agreed upon is that the black elder that everyone had respected is probably actually just another Instagram model, or an out of town gang leader trying to stir shit up; and that protesting will likely stop at the JC for the foreseeable future.

Ever since the new DA announced that he wasn't going to be pursuing charges against the majority of protesters, and was throwing out over 500 charges, the cops have been pissed, and taking out even more rage on the populace. Things were pretty chill Thursday, but that was because we had some internal family business to attend to, and now that's been resolved, so it's back to the streets time. And the cops were not happy about that, let me tell you.
The idea for yesterday was to meet at a park and march on the FOP headquarters building, but the cops met the marchers two blocks in and denied them access across an overpass. It was the beginning of one long night of marchers trying to get to the FOP and cops trying to piss off as many people as humanly possible. Later in the evening on that same bridge, the cops cleared all of the friendly vehicles from it (ie the local transit ops truck), then stormed the bridge firing smoke grenades at the protesters and slashing the tires of every vehicle that was still on the bridge - protest related or not. All the protesters tried to do all night long was get to the FOP and light the occasional dumpster on fire. The cops, on the other hand:

- Knocked an uninvolved person off his motorcycle, then held a rifle on him and threatened to shoot him if he didn't go away - he didn't go away and told the officer he'd shove that rifle up his ass if the dude pointed it at him one more time and the cop got scared and wandered off.
- Continue to strobe the press corps even though they know there is at least one epileptic reporter. The individual officers will acknowledge publicly that they're only doing it so she stays home, because she shouldn't be outside if she's disabled.
- There weren't many arrests, so there weren't many violent ones, but there were plenty of violent beat downs.
- At one point, the officers leapt, bodily, into a shield wall and then set about laying waste to everything around them with batons.
- On the third clearing of that same bridge, the cops had had enough. They directly pushed the entirety of the press corps up against the bridge railing and then continued to push them up against it until someone almost fell onto I-5. When one person wasn't moving fast enough (because they were being ground against the railing like a sausage grinder) the cops discharged an entire can of bear mace into the dude's face (Adam N Costello on Facebook). We then spent the better part of 20 minutes trying to get streamers to shut up and stop telling people that he was fine and didn't need a medic while the poor bastard was screaming for a medic in a nearby parking lot and then going into convulsions.
- At least three people reported that cops deliberately tried to push them over the bridge railing into traffic below.

We have a Back the Blue rally that has fizzled out in downtown Portland, but the stated actual intent of the backers was to provoke an attack in which they could shoot and kill at least one person. We now have multiple reports of a sniper who has taken position in downtown PDX and several pipe bombs have been detonated on Main St. There are NO cops ANYWHERE to be seen - of course.
So, there's a gang war brewing in downtown Portland, to go along with all of the other crap that's going on. What started as a coup against Riot Ribs has turned into a full-on armed gang that wanders around in "security" shirts demanding money and snacks at knife and gunpoint. Some of you may hear that there was a white supremacist attack on protesters that culminated in the supremacist being dragged out of his truck and beaten nearly to death. Some of you may hear that there was an attack by BLM protesters on a white male who was trying to protect a trans woman. Neither of these, technically, is true. What happened is that D'Anthony's gang beat the hell out of a white trans woman in front of the 7-11, stole her backpack and her skateboard, continued to beat the hell out of her, and only stopped once she was so beaten that she was expressing suicidal ideations. Then a man in the crowd (white dude, blue shirt and jorts) stepped in to try to comfort her, loaded her into his pickup truck, and attempted to flee the area while being chased by said gang. He was not, as sooooooooooo many people assumed, attempting to hit protesters. He was driving drunk and attempting to avoid the people chasing him.
Eventually he crashed into a building, and voluntarily (must not've been a USNAVY man) got out of the truck to discuss what was going on. This is when D'Anthony's gang caught up to him again and started beating the crap out of him while others in the crowd broke into the truck and started going through all of its cargo. Eventually, this led to a very clip-worthy shot of our hero sitting on the ground looking doozy as all hell, when one of the gang members runs up from behind and kicks him in the jaw. Medics catch up about then and start treating the man for a severe head wound, while being attacked by those same gang members, and urging people to call 911. Eventually all of the cops from the JC showed up to deal with the problem, where they were met by two extremely hostile crowds, but managed to secure the scene and get the dude away in an ambulance.
