UPDATE: Had another phone interview. This time it was with the Regional Manager and the Assistant to the Regional Manager (sort of). Lasted over an hr! I think it went well. I feel so weird trying to sell myself and abilities. Anyhow, tried to accentuate the positive and all that.
Now, I have an exam, and if that goes well, I will have a in-person presentation (of my research) and an interview with the whole team. So far so good.
UPDATE: Did the exam, sent it back, no further messages. They did say the folks who are selected after the exams would be notified by the end of Aug.
Had a phone interview at a different company. More computer-based stuff than I am used to. They are sending me a coding assignment. I will likely mess it up, but I'm going to give it a shot.

This is an origami frog I always make when I'm bored or waiting for a meeting to start. I also always think about my grandmother when I do it. She used to make them for us when we were little. It not too complicated, but for us 5 years old, it seemed that my grandmother would to take hours to make. 20 years ago I asked her to teach me how to make them. Her frogs were perfect. Every angle was exact (or at least that is how I remember it). I've never been able to do one like the ones she used to make. I hope one day I can do it.

My favorite thing about astrology is watching people who believe it try and come to grips when I tell them what I am, because I am NOTHING like my sign.

Well, I mean, there's some similarities of course - I have traits with all the signs, as I think most people do, but still! You know what I mean. It makes me laugh every time.

"I'm a Capricorn."
"Oh?? Are you sure..you don't seem like a Capricorn..?"
"Pretty damn sure."
"Wow, that's really strange."
"I know right! It's like it's not real or something."

Just blow their minds by then saying, "But under Nasa's realignment I'm a sagittarius."

It should help shake their beliefs even more than simply not displaying the characteristics they expect, because they'd have to accept that maybe the signs have moved and the calculations they've been living by are wrong.
I've been saying I'm a Sagittarius for months now just because I think I 'fit' that sign better. Haha! I'm only 6 days shy from being one anyway, so. May as well.

Well how about that, I'm not an Aquarius after all, I'm a Capricorn.

Strengths: Responsible, disciplined, self-control, good managers
Weaknesses: Know-it-all, unforgiving, condescending, expecting the worst
Capricorn likes: Family, tradition, music, understated status, quality craftsmanship
Capricorn dislikes: Almost everything at some point

You know, that actually DOES fit me better...

What do you mean I'm not a scorpio any more? How does being a Libra explain my raw sexual energy?

Oh, I'm just a slut? I guess I can be OK with that.

One of my coworkers who has been out for a couple days has returned. Apparently, the reason he was off work was because a yellowjacket stung him on the dick.
I now have SO many questions, none of which I think I really want to know the answers to.

So my dad got me a molecular gastronomy starter kit for my birthday. While I don't think I'm gonna pull it out seriously any time soon (it's very fiddly, and I have a tiny kitchen), I am interested in practicing a bit and seeing what I can produce.

Would people be interested in seeing this sort of thing documented? I'd probably make a thread in Artist's Corner for lack of a better place, and y'all can see what a mess I can make of science.
Since there was some interest, the first practice attempt is currently underway. Expect a thread later today or tomorrow.

I have no idea what a 'chilipeno' is supposed to be, but I think I'm gonna have to start buying these chips by the case.

UPDATE: Did the coding assignment this weekend. It was supposed to take 2 hrs, but it took me 2 days and a bunch of ugly python scripts strung together to get it to work (thanks stackoverflow). I still got a sit down interview out of it though. I'll move my update to minor/major if that goes well.
