So, I'd like to take advantage of the hive mind here.

I'm working on a space battle scene, and for my Terran Federation Navy, I had carriers down as being named after famous aircraft - "Spirit of St. Louis", "Concorde", "Memphis Belle", "Kaspian Monster", etc. But now I'm thinking it would work better if they were named after famous pilots - "Charles Elwood Yeager", "Manfred von Richthofen", "Bessie Coleman", "Mariam al-Mansouri", etc.

So which do you all think is a better naming convention?

I've heard of the Red Baron but I don't know his name. I don't know who Chuck Yeager is/was.
I recommend you watch a movie called "The Right Stuff." It's good, and a pop culture touchstone. There were probably some Simpsons references you missed out on due to that, at the very least.

Charles Elwood "Chuck" Yeager was a combat ace pilot who was the first man to travel faster than the speed of sound in the Bell X-1. He was a test pilot for decades as well. He's considered a pioneer of jet flight and even the space program.

Manfred von Richthofen was the Red Baron, a World War I flying ace known for his distinctive red Fokker Triplane. He was considered the ace-of-aces of the war, with more than 80 confirmed kills.

Bessie Coleman was a civil aviatrix, the first African-American and first Native American woman to receive her pilot's license. Having learned to fly in France, she returned to the United States and was a successful air show performer. She was preparing to open a flight academy for African-Americans when she died in a plane crash in 1926 while testing a new aircraft.

Mariam al-Masouri is the first female combat pilot in the United Arab Emirates, and has participated in a number of sorties against ISIS since 2015.

Phones can be SO random, my location was off so it automatically set my phone's location to Queen's Village, Philadelphia a part of Philly I am NOT in much, at least to my memory.

The way I see it, there would be two possible in-universe reasons to give your ships themed names: intimidating the enemy, and inspiring your forces. Your enemy's presumably an alien species, so they won't be intimidated by either option, so that's out. So the question is, would your own side be more inspired by the names of the aircraft, or the names of the people? Would they be more willing to fight for a ship named the Enola Gay, or a ship named the Amelia Earhart? Would they prefer to serve on a ship named after Lindbergh, or would they prefer their ship to be named after his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis? This may be something only you can answer, since you know your universe best.

Personally, if I was a member of your Terran Federation Navy, I'd probably prefer to serve on ships named after people. But that's just because I'm afraid, with my luck, I'll end up on a ship named the Hindenburg.

I haven't seen it yet, but I approve this message.

And if you're going to include pilot names, you need to also include Lincoln Beachey.

Had to look him up. Interesting, worth putting on the list, as is Pyotr Nesterov and Elisabeth Boselli.

As long as one's called the Billy Bishop, we cool.

You might be able to use both of your ideas. Does your Navy have supply/repair ships or some type of orbital space docks/slips? The logistics side of the equation could use aircraft names or even famous ship names for their nomenclature.

When a cellphone can't get a GPS signal for exact location (either you are indoors or something else is blocking the satellite signal, or you have GPS turned off) it is going to default to the much less accurate "go by the nearest cell tower" route. So that happened to be the tower you were pinging off.

Edit: or if you were using location services in a web browser, it could be nearest ip

You kids and your "I don't know what that is." In the same weekend, I got praised by guests for knowing the story of the Spirits of St. Louis sweetheart deal with the NBA, and for knowing who Korpiklaani is. :p

Uh, hello? Wisconsinite here? Guy who grew up flying in and out of General William Mitchell International Airport? Learned about him in history class in school?
I went to General William Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs :D

The Cafeteria had a 20-foot-wide replica of a B-25 sticking out of the wall.

I made a dentist appointment and felt so accomplished. I'm 31 and these are my accomplishments now. Like, wow. Way to call someone. Really killin' it.

I hate, hate, HATE making appointments.
I hate making dentist appointments. The one we used to go to harassed me with an unreasonable number of phone calls and was always farting around with our appointment times and then magically we would never have enough time for a full cleaning and would have to book another to finish. I got so mad at them one time and screamed and freaked at them. I know that our insurance would have paid, but that’s not the point. It’s wrong.

Why does the Jurassic Park theme get me a bit emotional? It hits me in the feels for some reason. I don't cry, but it stirs something in me. Then again, so does the Superman theme. It might just be John Williams playing the strings of my soul. Heard the Jurassic Park theme on a mix at work and then went home and watched it on Netflix. What a fun movie. Goldblum's character sort of falls off after the T-rex scene. I wonder if they cut some of his scenes out.

In the book, his character was feverish and dying with a damaged femoral artery after the T-Rex attack, until the sequel retconned it. So there wasn't a lot done with Ian Malcolm in mind from that point on in the source material.

I remember him telling everyone else to make sure to fill the bathtub before the water stops working...and then they never mention that bathtub again.

I think it’s wild that all porn is now just cuckold or two pornstars that look nothing alike yelling “yes brother!” “Oh yes sister!”

They go with what sells. Which leads me to believe that there's a surprisingly large proportion of men in the world with cuckold and/or incest fetishes.

See, I don't know if there's really that much of an audience, or if it's an attempt to normalize cuckoldry and incest so that people ignore the fact that our wonderful leader keeps calling his daughter a hot piece of ass and his followers keep referring to their political rivals as cucks.
