GET YER FUCKIN NOG ON

I've learned a few things over the years with my nog. The first, and most important is this: bourbon > rum > brandy > no alcohol.

Mom doesn't like hard nog, and sister doesn't like nog at all. So all the nog I make this season will be for me. That's winning. :)

I had my first nog of the year Friday, with some 40 year old Trader Vic's Rum.

I was a little scared.

I am also saddened that my Dad quit buying Wild Turkey for the Nog supply.

I know this may sound like heresy, but I honestly prefer my nog without any booze in it. I prefer the ice cream-type flavor that pure nog offers.

Had the first nog of the season Thursday. Homemade, with rum. It's worth mentioning each year, but homemade eggnog is the only nog worth drinking.

You know I heard a lady request a nonfat eggnog latte today. Merry Christmas, one and all!

I think we've had a carton of nog sitting in the fridge untouched for nearly a month. I keep forgetting to buy some kind of alcohol for it.

I don't like eggnog, nor have I ever.
Have you had homemade? The difference between homemade and store bought eggnog is as big a difference in quality between a well-done, grain fed strip steak, and a medium-rare, grass fed, prime porterhouse.

But...

What is the point?!
Well, there's 2 types of people in the world. Those who drink regular nog and those that drink non fat. Yin Yang and all that.

How the hell do you make a non-fat drink out of something that is made of milk, cream, eggs, sugar, and booze. All you would be left with is the sugar and boo...Ooooohhh, never mind.

Second batch made... and consumed.

Now onto the next holiday tradition. FRUITCAKE! I make Alton Brown's Free Range Fruitcake, with real dried fruit (rehydrated in rum) and good spices. Never seems to last to new year's. :)

I always buy two cartons of nog. One for my son and the other for me to have one glass out of before my son drinks it as well.

Happy Nog Day, everyone!

I remember someone writing into a gluten-free thread about tortes. Tortes are great because they are flourless cakes (No gluten!). But she wanted to know if you could also make it without sugar to cut down on the calories. Most of the replies were basically, "Well, the cake has to be made out of SOMEthing!"

It's like diet caffeine-free Mt. Dew. What's left? Why bother to make it?
