Cannot wait. Huge fan of the series. Love the open world feel.... will likely be upgrading the PC for this puppy about 3 months after it's release.

I love the ES games and have since Daggerfall. Can't wait for this one.

Wait a minute. That woman actually looks decently attractive. Are we sure this is a Bethesda game? ;)

Nice one ScytheRexx. I can only imagine the amazing mods that will be out for this one within 6 months. Yet another reason I'm going to wait to upgrade my PC.

#8

AshburnerX

Looks fantastic... unfortunately, I'll have to get the 360 version this time around, due to my computer currently being crap. Still, I'm sure it'll be fun and I can always get the PC version in a few years with all the expansions for like 20 bucks.

I like the sound of the Dragon Shout system as well, but I'm a little concerned about one thing in the trailer... they refer to the main character as "he". Are they making a defined character this time around? Is the time of customization gone?

Also, here's the trailer since no one posted it yet.

I imagine any gender definition is as easily switchable in game dialogue as it was it Fallout 3.

Hailey Knight

Okay, well, I've watched the trailer and read a previously overlooked many-pages-long article in a GameInformer from a couple months, and though I've never played an Elder Scrolls game, I have enjoyed Fallout 3.

I'm on board now. Looks awesome; I can't wait.

Ayep. If he lives long enough, this means the next one might end up being voiced by Christopher Lee.

I'm starting to suspect Christopher Lee might actually BE a vampire at this point, he's so old.

Bethesda's next Elder Scrolls game will nix classes, revamp leveling, and allow players to wield anything they want in each hand.

Gameplay details on Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim have leaked out of an upcoming Game Informer feature. The fifth Elder Scrolls RPG will be changing and upgrading many of the aspects last seen in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Gone is the maligned level scaling system from Oblivion, which caused enemies to level along with the player. Replacing it is one that the Skyrim senior community manager says is more "like Fallout 3." Fallout 3's system only boosts the levels of enemies in critical areas when players first enter, and keeps them that way for the rest of the game.

Leveling itself works in a similar manner to Oblivion, but Bethesda has nixed classes in favor of a system that is more open to allow for either specialization or a broad use of everything. There are 18 total skills, down from 21 in Oblivion. Using any skill levels both it and the player at the same rate. However, the higher in rank a skill is when it gains a level, the more quickly it will level the player. Gaining a level also gives a perk, in another apparent nod to Fallout.

The big news about Skyrim's combat comes from the addition of a new duel-wielding system. Any weapon or spell can now be assigned to each hand. Want a shield in your left and a sword in your right? Go ahead. How about a dagger in your right and a fireball in your left? How about a shield in your right and a heal spell in your left, to bore enemies to death? Apparently, anything is possible.

Skyrim is indeed set 200 years after Oblivion and players evidently do play as the Dragonborn mentioned in the game's first trailer. The player's goal is to stop Alduin, the dragon god "world eater" mentioned in the recently translated Elder Scrolls V poem.

Along the way, Skyrim will throw a more dynamic quest system at players, with some quests only given to those with a certain level of skill in specific areas like magic or thievery. In addition, the player's decisions will affect the quests they can receive, with the family member of someone you killed possibly not wanting to give you a quest they otherwise would.

Skyrim will also feature a weapon creation system, an NPC dueling system, improved graphics, better character creation options, finishing moves, the ability to sprint, and more. In other words, probably just what Oblivion fans were looking for. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be released on November 11, 2011.

Awesome, that stuff I read in GameInformer in December has reached the internet.

(Now someone post "I knew about that before everyone else!" guy from Shortpacked.)

Funny, I didn't notice this until now, but Ashburner's question about no customization is answered in one of the screenshots of the menu in the OP where it says "Dark Elf."

As long as I can be Argonian again, we're all good.

#25

Apparently Argonians have been removed from the game along with any possible evil actions and ranged weaponry.

#26

Hailey Knight

Hailey Knight

There are also no elders nor scrolls.

#27

Jiarn

I'm sure you're being sarcastic, but I could do without the evil actions or ranged. It's all about the Divine Nine and the Crusader Relics! A real man wears a suit of plated mail, a shield and a mace to smite the atrocities of the lands! Throw in some healing magic, magic reflection and enchanted Shield spell and I'm a smiting machine!

I was a good portion of the way through making an orc village in the mountains in Oblivion before a nasty HDD death erased that memory. It looked like complete shit at the point I was at. Those tools are not easy.

But don't you see? It's the consoles' fault! The 360 and PS3 are holding back gaming, and keeping PCs from their true potential. There's no way that a new game is going to look better than the old one as long as it's being made for the same generation of game systems.

Well if you want to be technical about it then yes, old hardware is holding back what the max graphical settings can do, just look at the fact that no game that taxes even the best systems like Crysis did has come out since Crysis and it's been years. Of course that doesn't mean that there's no room for better textures and optimisation to make the game look better then one from 6 years ago.

But the real problem is that the graphical improvements require other things to use less resources, and thus we're left with small areas and lots of loading... gods i hate that.

#53

figmentPez

figmentPez

I think I needed to throw some paranoid ranting about M$ deliberately sabotaging console-to-PC ports and the real reason the PS3 stopped coming with HDMI cables. I don't think I managed to correctly convey the tongue-in-cheek nature of my post.

#54

@Li3n

Oh no, that was fine, i was just being a stick-in-the-mud, it's kind of a hobby of mine.

And the PS3 doesn't come with HDMI cables... what a bunch of croc.

Recently, an interview at Gameswelt (I believe its German) with Todd Howard has him talking all about the Elder Scrolls. Todd says in the first twenty seconds that the feeling they were going for with Morrowind was that you were a stranger in a strange land. For Skyrim, he says that feels wrong. After Morrowind, they wanted to go back to a more “classic fantasy game” for Oblivion. He then goes on to explain how between Arena to Oblivion, Morrowind is the odd one out; the alien in the series. And, the reason that they love Morrowind so much is that the wonder of discovery is present throughout the whole game, and is delivered in ways you wouldn't expect. With Skyrim, they’re going for the “traditional” look at first glance, but then the alien things are present throughout the game. The Dwarven ruins are back in Skyrim, and the way that the Nordic cultures view things are different; similar to how the Houses in Morrowind viewed things.

During the interview, Todd says that nothing will be as alien as things in Morrowind. Going on, he says with the new HD graphics, they can make things the way they want to look. The bigger cities still have walls, so you’ll have loading screens at those. After Fallout 3, they had a list of improvements going, and then says they got the list done, and more. Even traps have gone a long way in Skyrim; Todd says traps are a lot of fun to work with. Spatial puzzles will also come into play. Points of interest, as Todd says, are in the game, such as Necromancers around an altar. Well over a hundred points of interest are present, from his last count.

The natural creatures, such as wolves or deer, roam and do things they’d do in real life. Giants will often be with mammoths, according to Todd, and in the future, he claims, they’ll show more creatures. Also, he goes on to say a lot of the Divines and Daedra will be making an appearance in Skyrim as well; a big part of the world is still around Oblivion. Regarding Oblivion, the land is about the same size. The ten races of Oblivion are in Skyrim, but they’re focusing on making those as different as possible, instead of adding more generic ones (See Orc picture for example). Since Skyrim is referred to as the original home of men, Nords don’t like elves much. The stealth system is upgraded quite a bit from Oblivion as well. As you are detected the eyeball gradually opens giving you time to hide, unlike Oblivion where you were instantly detected, which they want to avoid. Radiant AI is back as well, and animations made to add to the AI are present. If they’re a cook, then there’s an animation to make them cook. Jobs NPCs do you can do as well, such as mining, making armor or weapons, cooking, and working leather. For cooking, a menu will open that tells you the food you can use, and what you can cook it into. Raw food is used to be cooked into cooked food.

He then goes on to talk about some other things, such as crafting. Magical crafting is enchanting and crafting for warriors is smithing. The most interesting items come out of your own making, according to Todd, and all experiences are trying to be made as diverse as possible. Dungeons can range from fifteen minute heists to epic two hour dungeon crawls. Alchemy hasn’t been explained to much, but it will be a lot different than that of Oblivion.

#56

AshburnerX

AshburnerX

Glad they are altering Alchemy a bit. It's always been a gamebreaker.

#57

Jay

Jay

One of my pet peeves in huge sandbox worlds where you can explore are the AI monsters just mostly standing there like tools and not behaving like they are part of some world. Whether it is the humanoid AI in towns who just walk around aimlessly until script tells them otherwise or go to sleep, or ai monsters stand beside eachother in a weird way where they'd normally kill eachother on site.

Any effort on that front gets a thumbs up from me.

My dream game has always been to be a part of a dymamic world like oblivion, not be the the dynamic part (aka ai can evolve/de-evolve without you). Economy, you can do whatever you want and it impacts the world.... etc.

#61

Azurephoenix

Azurephoenix

Gee... didn't you like running into groups of bandits dressed entirely in rare daedric armour and weapons when you were around level 30 or so? ;)

I hated that system with a passion. Sometimes I just want my hero to feel like a badass...

#62

Jiarn

Oh I didn't deal with that. Once I realized how ridiculous the system was I installed 'Fracesco's Mod'.

#63

Azurephoenix

Azurephoenix

I didn't find out about that mod until I had completed the game twice lol.

Not that levelled enemies don't have their place... but damn, random encounters do not always have to be an epic friggin battle.

Oblivion with a bunch of mods is awesome. But without those mods, man, that shit is boring.

Kinda like fallout 3 when i think about it... YAY PC gaming

Once again, if the "custom" making system is simple enough to use, I'll be creating a village, with subquests and whatnot, will be very HF oriented (NPC names like Kara, Grendmir, Adia, Saryon.. etc). Only if it is simple of course.

Snow and trees everywhere. That's Skyrim. Oh and new models for Argonians, he was casting dragon's breath, a new skill. Also, that's a dragon in the cave but Bethesda wants to keep the pictures of draguns to a minimum.

It's not as well-defined as here. Oblivion and Fallout 3 third person looked very clunky to me, like it was just an extra view, not something you could really play in.

Watched the trailer a 27th time, and changed my mind. I can't wait to finish Fallout 3 to get this.

A Fan Interview :

1) Will the character be able to change into certain creature?
Todd: We’ve done various things like that in our previous games, and it’s something that we probably won’t be talking about specifically on this one. Don’t read anything into that, we just prefer to not discuss this one. We’d like to leave that an open question until the game is out.

2) What sorts of cosmetic options, like beards, tattoos, or body proportions, are available? Can we edit them later in the game?
Matt:
There is large amount of customization available for each race. You can choose from multiple hair styles, beards, scars, and face paint. Each race and gender has a light and heavy build and you can pick any level in between. We’ve completely redone our facial system, and we’re really excited to show off the results.

3) Is armor handled like in Oblivion (with each body part being welded together) or in Morrowind (with each body part separate)? Will you be able to wear both clothes and armor at the same time?
Matt: The armor system is very similar to Oblivion’s. The main difference is that the upper and lower body armors, the cuirass and greaves, have been combined into one piece. This helps create armor styles that have the look we needed for Skyrim. In most of the Nordic designs we created, the upper armor would completely cover the lower armor, making it unnecessary. We get much better visual results combining those pieces, and it renders a lot faster too, so we can put more people on screen, so that was an easy tradeoff for us. We can also make a lot more armors now, so the number and variation types are more than we’ve ever had.

4) Are the main and faction quests branching or linear? What about side quests?
Bruce: We’ve focused on telling one story well. There are decision points in all the quest lines that can change things, but overall it’s a single story. Because the side quests are smaller stories, they are more likely to have major branches. For example, you can decide to save or betray someone, which changes the whole end of the quest. Overall the quest structure in Skyrim is closer to Oblivion than Fallout 3, in that there are many more quests, but they have fewer branches.

5) Are loot and quest rewards level scaled, like in Oblivion? Will there be any powerful un-scaled items?
Bruce: We’re handling leveling stuff similar to how we did in Fallout 3, but with a few new twists that we hope players won’t even notice. The enemies and loot are based on the “encounter zone” you’re in, so it could be higher or lower level than your current level. We do have a new concept of epic or “special” loot that you can randomly find in many cases, regardless of the zone, and you will still get better stuff in the better zones with your level higher. Same goes for quest rewards. We try to make them appropriate for what you did. Sometimes that is random, sometimes that is a set item. There’s a lot of specific stuff that is very powerful, like the Daedric artifacts.

6) Will items present in Morrowind but not in Oblivion, such as spears, medium armor, and mark/recall spells, be making a return?
Todd: They are not in Skyrim for the same reasons we didn’t include them in Oblivion. I’ll address each one. First spears, the truth is we’d love to do them, but it becomes a priority and development time thing for us. We feel it’s better to spend our time right now making sure the gameplay for the other play styles is really solid. That includes sword, sword and shield, two-handed weapons, and bows. You can also add magic to that list. Getting those all working well together, while feeling different, is our priority.

As far as medium armor, that’s not a time or polish thing, it’s a design choice to focus on two armor types and making sure those feel different and the player appreciates them. We try to make your character move and feel different between light and heavy and having a 3rd one in the middle just muddies it up in how it plays, as well as visually. And even now, we still have to tweak those two armor types so they feel different, while remaining fun. Every time we slow down heavy armor more, it feels bad, but it’s the main way of balancing it. We’ve added other ways of balancing it that feel right—like different stamina drain rates when sprinting and such.

Mark and recall is one where it’s a lot of fun, but like levitation, was removed so we could design better gameplay spaces and scenarios. We were really limited in Morrowind because the player could recall or levitate out of many situations and break them. There was a lot of good gameplay and level design work that we just couldn’t do and now we can. Back then it seemed like many good ideas we had were shot down when another designer would say “oh yeah, I just levitate or recall away.” So we got rid of them.

7) Will we be able to have relationships with the NPCs, romantic or otherwise?
Bruce: Absolutely! You make friends with people by doing things for them. Friends in the game will treat you differently. Some of them will even agree to go with you into dungeons and on adventures. You can even get married. If you own a house, your spouse will move in with you.

8) Are there any new armor/weapon materials unique to Skyrim?
Matt: One of the most prized and rarest sets of armor is made from dragons. It can be forged in both a light and heavy variant. You’ll see a return of many armors from previous games, such as leather and steel, however these have been redesigned in the Nordic style.

9) Can we have some specifics about the PC version of the game? How will it's UI be different? Will there be a 64-bit executable?
Todd: 64-bit specific exe? Not at this time. As far as UI, it visually looks the same across the platforms, but the controls are entirely different. There’s also a lot of “power user” stuff we do with the keyboard from how favorites work, to quick saves, and more that is similar to what we’ve done before in that area. We’re packing a lot of info on the screen and the whole interface is much less ‘look at giant fonts!’ than, say, Oblivion. The PC version also gets higher res textures, larger render modes, and a bunch of other effects you can scale up if your machine is a beast. Last but most important, is the Creation Kit we’ll be releasing for the PC. Modding the game and making it your own is very important to us and our fans, so we’re going to keep doing whatever we can in that area.

10) How will enchanting work in Skyrim? Will we have to constantly refill our enchantments with soul gems like we did in Oblivion, or will it be more like Morrowind in which the weapons recovered after a certain resting period?
Bruce: The method in Oblivion worked really well, so we kept it. Magic weapons use charges and have to be refilled with soul gems. Magic armor is always on and doesn’t need to be recharged. Soul gems and their lore and usage are a staple of the Elder Scrolls.

We have revamped the enchanting system though. Enchanting is now a skill. The better your skill and perks, the better you are at creating enchanted items. You’ll be able to find enchanting stations all over the world, which will make it much more accessible.

There are some changes from Oblivion, including the effects you can use when creating items, as well as how you learn effects. You now learn enchanting effects by “breaking down” a magic item you find, as opposed to them coming from spells you know. This allows us to separate enchanting from the other magical skills better.

11) What are the differences between the races? I guess they'll have different skill bonuses, but will they also start with different perks or have different "hard-coded" attributes, such as different running speeds or maximum encumbrance, etc.?
Todd: They each start with some skills that are higher by default, but those aren’t hard to overcome with another race in a short time. They also have different starting spells and each has its own passive abilities, like before, as well as powers, like before. So Khajiit can see in the dark, Orcs have a berserk power, Redguards have Adrenaline Rush, and so forth. They work differently in the new system, but the flavor is the same. We kept all the racial movement speeds the same, that’s now a factor of what you’re wearing and have equipped. And starting max encumbrance is the same and is based on your Stamina attribute.

12) Is there any game content (story, quests) that might be locked for a character based on race/faction/politics allegiances/morality/choices? Or one can experience all the content in one single play?
Todd: We do have some stuff that gets locked out based on decisions you make. It’s wherever it felt natural. It wasn’t a goal that you could or couldn’t play everything with one character. The game’s honestly so big that we don’t think about it much.

13) To what extent will our racial / gender selection at the start of the game will affecting our gameplay? Are there relationships affected by these choices?
Bruce: Your race is very important. It’s more than just how you look. Each race has a bias toward certain types of characters. If you want play a wizard, it will be easier with a High Elf or a Breton. If you want to play a warrior, it will be easier with a Nord or a Redguard. However, just like in Oblivion, we don’t force you to follow that bias. If you want to be a Nord wizard, that’s completely viable. Sadly we remove the Argonian race as we felt a change was necessary. Other than that, there are many choices in races.

Gender does not change any initial skills or abilities. There is nothing that men do better than women or vice versa in the game. Other characters will recognize your gender and address you properly. Some may have prejudices for or against a particular gender as a part of their character, but it won’t change what you can or can’t do.

14) Do you plan to include non lethal ways of defeating opponents??
Todd: Depends on what you mean by “defeat”. We have various stealthy ways of getting past people, and the various poisons and spells allow you to basically render enemies harmless to you, whether that is casting a calm or fear spell, knocking them down, or something else.

Oh, and we now have tavern brawls that are non-lethal! I love those.

15) Will boss fights involve interesting mechanics involved as opposed to just more health and hits harder?
Todd: We have many new combat behaviors in our AI that makes fights with certain enemies very dynamic and interesting. It matters what the enemy can do. Dragons, for example, can do lot of things from multiple shouts, bombing runs, picking guys up, and more. An enemy that has a sword and shield, a bow, magic spells, and potions will use all of those things, and those fights are the most interesting. But we also design some combat encounters where the player simply may get mobbed by more simple enemies, and those have a different pace and strategy.

16) Do companions have skill and perk trees we can train?
Bruce: No, you only manage your own. Though companions often have certain perks so they behave different or better.

17) Is the culture in Skyrim strictly Nordic, or are there places (like Cheydinhal in Cyrodiil) that show influence from other cultures nearby, like architecture, religion, etc?
Matt: While there are pockets of other races in the game, we focused on the Nordic culture and their regional differences. The architecture between cities is dramatically different and reflects how the Nords live in that area.

18) So, the dragons are big and powerful. Did you include some destructible environment so they could leave marks and scars everywhere they attack? Can they demolish buildings, break trees, start avalanches, burn houses, things like this that emphasize their power?
Todd: They do leave marks and scars everywhere, but as far as destroying buildings and such, it’s rare. It does happen, but not a lot. Systemically destroying our spaces is something we have not found a good way to handle yet, because it’s so dynamic. We’re dealing with places that we have NPCs living, and providing quests and other game services. It’s something we avoid in every game unless we can specifically wipe it off the map, like Megaton.

19) Will there be any difference between the animation sets of male and female as well as human-like and 'beast' characters?
Matt: The animation system is completely new and dramatically improved. You will notice huge difference from previous games. There are differences between male and female animations, and even beast races have some specific animations.

20) Will any sort of karma system be incorporated like there was in Fallout, or will it be the Fame/Infamy system of Oblivion?
Bruce: We don’t provide a numeric score that you can track, but the game knows if you’ve been naughty or nice. We felt that a number really didn’t do your fame justice. Characters in the world will acknowledge the specific things you have done rather than just a generalized reputation. If you are a criminal, they’ll know that too. But if you pay your debt to society, all is forgiven.

21) Will crafting (weapons, armor) be effected by the tools you use as well as the ingredients used in the crafting? Such as the hammers and clippers, mastery level of the weapons and your level? Basically, will I be able to produce a more powerful, or even unique, weapon if I use a master hammer or clipper as opposed to novice?
Bruce: The blacksmith’s shop includes a forge, a grindstone, and a smithing bench. You can improve your weapons at the grindstone. The higher your skill, the more you can improve them, and the more damage they’ll do. Same thing for armor with the smithing bench, only the armor rating gets better. The forge is actually used to create new weapons and armor from raw materials.

22) Will your character have a voice? So that you can hear yourself having a conversation with other people?
Todd: You do have a voice, but you only hear it in grunts and shouts. So we have recorded for each race and sex you can play, all the different combat grunts, as well as the dragon language shouts.

23) Obviously every character is "Dragonborn", but not every character will be playing the same way. The question is: Will dragon shouts support all types of characters? Are there long ranged shouts? Some kind of stealthy "shout"?
Todd: Yes, the shouts support all character types. We’re not ready to talk about the other shouts yet, but soon enough.

24) Are there going to be places where you can use nature to your advantage? Like make a trap out of a falling tree or climb a tree to stealth attack an enemy?
Todd: Yes and no. You can’t make things, but our environment is so dense, you’re almost always using the natural terrain to get an advantage, especially with stealth.

25) Will you be able to carry on after the main story?
Todd: Yes, absolutely.

I like how you added "Sadly we remove the Argonian race as we felt a change was necessary."

Would have been more believable had you not mispelled "remove".

Funny thing is, that video reminded me of one of my biggest pet peeves with Oblivion: Every single person had the exact same 'body'. Old men, young men, warriors, mages etc. It was so jarring. Same for women. It just really drew me out at times.

The reference was to Bioware's implications of trying to go after CoD's audience with DA2... and it sounds like they're doing the same with Skyrim...

A big difference is they've been making Skyrim for years whereas they were making DA2 for months.
So at least we'll have less recycled environments i guess... :p

Earlier, Pete Hines (the Vice President of Bethesda’s PR department), stated on Twitter that same-sex marriage will be allowed in Skyrim. He responded to someone who called the topic “hush hush” by saying

"Not hush hush, just not making a huge deal out of it. You can marry anyone."
"Not any NPC, just mean any male or female. Doesn't matter what you're playing."

It appears that Skyrim is taking after games like Dragon Age and Fable, where same-sex marriages/relationships have always been allowed.

I can tell you with 100% certainty there will be mods in Skyrim. It's what will make the game worth buying alone. However, most REAL mods take about 6-8 months after release to really be worth it. EX: Fallout New Vegas.

"Never played a single Bethesda expansion" crew checking in. Yeah it takes a while but Bethesda is like the most mod-friendly company in existence. Really? I rarely have problems with xpacs + mods, but that's because I don't really play the game/download the mods till the game's been out for so long. However when a new xpac is released, alot of older mods WILL have conflicts until updated. That I can agree with.

If they had any sense, they'd turn Voice of the Emperor into a persistent charming effect and leave it at that. It's a useful skill (for awhile anyway) but only being able to use it once a day and having to select it makes it kinda worthless.

Argonians get the best stuff, as per usual. I suppose that's fitting for a game about "Dragonborne".

Elves always look way to fugly in Elder Scrolls, though I guess the ones in Skyrim don't look so bad, so I may try giving one of them a shot again.

I can't wait for this game. I am really looking forward to running some good 18 hour sessions on it with my Rogue/Stealth/Magician guy that I always roll up.

....and then subsequently replace with a warrior who smashes everything without thought because the soft dudes are too hard to play.

#226

It was actually pretty easy to be a thief in Oblivion, if you used a bow. That ability to knockdown foes makes the game trivial.

#227

bhamv3

bhamv3

Man, I really need to play Oblivion. It's sitting in my Steam games list, just waiting to be played.

I suppose by the time I'm done with Oblivion, there'll be a Skyrim GOTY edition out and probably for a discount.

#228

Necronic

Necronic

It was actually pretty easy to be a thief in Oblivion, if you used a bow. That ability to knockdown foes makes the game trivial.
My problem was that, later in the game, you couldn't 1 shot the guys (draneii/demons/daedra/weird fire dudes) with stealth arrows, and in a standup fight they were brutally difficult to kill with the little thief. Compared to like the Orc warrior I rolled who would just walk through the place like a tank and beat down everything without concern.

Thiefs were hard to run, although they were tons more rewarding/interesting.

#229

AshburnerX

AshburnerX

Yeah, but you don't NEED to one shot them if you train up your Bow with trainers. Then your arrows will knock them down/paralyze them fairly often, making them easy to beat. Honestly, I beat the game with nothing but the bow.

#230

Shegokigo

Shegokigo

As much as I go on and on about Orc Female Melee, I will say that I had alot of fun with "Witch" characters.

Charm/Frenzy + the ability to go invisible for long periods of time ensure that if I didn't want to get my hands dirty, I didn't have to. Simply charm a target in the middle of a large group, let them kill each other, continue charming till there's only one left, finish off the Low Hp target.

Though unfortunately the build suffered from not much damage mitigation or damage dealing, I found singular "boss" fights to be difficult till I raised my summoning skill.

#231

AshburnerX

AshburnerX

I never really liked Summoning... it would be great if you could summon like 3-4 skeletons, but a single pet? In the end game the summons are like tissue paper (except Morrowind, were you got Golden Saints).

#232

Shegokigo

Shegokigo

Trying to remember my Witch's build that made it worth using, since she didn't have any real source of damge dealing:

Illusion Magic - For Charm/Command and Invisibility (for wiping out entire groups) as well as extended Paralyze spells that allowed the summoned creature to do it's damage. (on the left over weak targets/single bosses)
Alteration - For sheild spells, both for my pet and if for whatever reason I actually had something come after me.
Conjuration - For when I needed to finish off the last weak member of a group or single boss fights.
Mysticism - For Reflect Shields. High mana costs but used at the right time, made all the difference in a hard fight. as well as dispelling any kind of buff the boss has.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head. I basically made the "Witch" as a challenging character to make the game harder as my Orc Female melee just mowed the entire game down.

I'm extremely thrifty (cheep) with my video games. I think the only games I have paid full retail for in the last 10 years are GTA:SA, Oblivion (which I have since bought again off of steam to get the full GOTY edition), GTA 4, and Age of Warhammer or whatever that MMO was called. I have barely touched GTA 4 and I stopped playing Age of Warhammer after like a month and a half. TOR will be my game of the year (to pay full price for).

I will be eagerly watching for reviews of Skyrim though.

I'm in love with this game. Can't wait for a few patches and the Mod Tool to come out.
A few gripes :
1. I cannot get the fucken "favorite" system to work, AKA, I switch weapons manually in that Fable-ized UI. A fix for this would be awesome.
2. Talking down to people when I'm on a horse. I'm able to do it in RL, in these forums and I better be able to do that in the game. Dismounting to chat is lame.
3. I hope there's no LVL cap or auto level, I'm already LVL 16 and mostly because I've been.... pillaging and looting. (70 pickpocket, 45 lockspicks, 50 stealth and only 22 archery and 24 one-handed). I just had to fight some thugs and they were epics battles to say the least.

So what kind of character builds are people going for? I usually go for a Mage or Theif in these kinds of games so I was thinking of mixing it up and going with a Nord 2 hander to try something different.

#358

AshburnerX

AshburnerX

Honestly, builds revolve entirely around perks this time and perks have minimums for advancement. This basically means you can't min-max unless you have a shitload of money for training. Just play how you want and you'll be able to advance in a means that fits that style.

For instance, I am playing a sort of Tank/Bow type. So I picked the Thief Guardian stone (+20% gain speed for Stealth skills) to advance my bow more quickly and I've been dumping my perks into Archery, Lockpick, and Restoration.

#359

Thieving mage.

My Redguard is light on her feet, prone to lock-picking, pickpocketing, arrows, and destruction magic. I keep a shield and dagger on hand for close encounters.

Dual-wielding maces is fun though.

I love how fluidly your character evolves based on how you're playing. I adore the Fallout games, but this is ideal. I don't have to plan things out from the start--I can just roll with whatever I'm already doing.

A lot of the problems with Oblivion, Morrowind, and the two new Fallouts are tied to the Gamebryo engine... however, since the company that made it went out of business and will no longer be supporting it, they made their own engine. That means that they got rid of the pre-made build problem.

#361

Bowielee

I'm going for a stealth/bow sniper/thief. I loves me some stealth kills.

BTW, I seem to be able to use that build way more effectively in Skyrim than I ever was in Oblivion.

#362

AshburnerX

That's because the bow perks make their damage scale more evenly. In Oblivion, bows were really only effective once you mastered them because of the knockdown perk you got. In Skyrim you can boost their damage and get improved staggering long before you get the knockdown, so it's more effective early on.

Honestly, my bow is all I've been using since I found my Fortify Archery ring. +15% damage to bow hits? Yes please!

Also, I love how they actually made enchanting (as a skill) viable again. It was so worthless in Morrowind that they took it out completely in Oblivion.

#364

Enchantment?
You need to fix your image tag. I don't know what your trying to say.

Yes, you could enchant stuff in Oblivion, but it didn't require skill to do so and most of the stuff enchanted at flat rates. In Morrowind it was a skill you needed to raise, but raising it increased how quickly your items recharged. However, there was a significant chance of failure when you enchanted yourself so it was always a better idea to just pay someone to do it. Hence you never raised the skill and never got the bonus.

I have to agree wholeheartedly on this. I 'enjoyed' Fallout 3, but I felt so restricted by choices made at the beginning of the game, Oblivion in a similar fashion. I'm much more invested in Skyrim simply because my character moves forward based on what I want, not what the story demands. And there's no 'wrong answer' either. My bow sniper/resto mage is still as effective as any slash and burn warrior.

I'll say, I've already had some pretty epic spell battles. I had to fight this thing called a somethingorotherhag after warring my way through a whole coven of witches that dug clever girling me from Jurassic Park. This hag was just lobbing massive exploding fireballs that knocked me on my ass even when my spellward was up. So I had to book around the whole area using the terrain to my advantage while I tagged her with lightning bolts to try to slow down her insane fireball assault.

This single fight (and the one where I killed three mammoths and 2 giants by abusing the terrain) was better than any combat I had throughout any of the Elder Scrolls games.

Magicka is so fun.

Alright... I'm level 17, but I'm having some problems. My formerly awesome sauce bow shots are now crap, even with the sneak bonus AND a reenforced bow. Even at 50 Archery I'm not doing enough damage to take on more than a single guy at once, tops... which is BULL SHIT when I have all the archery feats I can get at the moment.

Seriously, this is my setup:

Superior Dwarven Bow (30+ Damage, with a Fire Enchant for another +5)
Orcish arrows (12 damage)
Iron Gauntlets of Archery (+15% to bow damage)
Ring of Archery (+25% to bow damage) (This DOES stack)
= 58-59 damage a shot

And I STILL need to fire off 4-5 arrows. They ether need to up bow damage or up the stagger rate, because you can't get the stagger perks until 60 and you NEED those if you specialize in bow. The crit perks help but not enough.

I dunno... it just feels like there is a balancing problem.

#387

Frank

I'm playing on expert difficulty as a straight up combat mage (throwing down the destruction spells) and at level 13, I'm not having too many issues. The only time I get overwhelmed is usually when there's multiple enemy mages all using lightning on me. The magicka she disappears so quickly.

Man, you guys are eating through this. I played six or seven hours yesterday and I'm only halfway to level 8.

I had to pause the game to come tell this story.

I'm walking (okay, sneaking) from point A to point B. It's a long journey and I'm taking a side quest or two to explore a couple ruins. I cross this bridge and I see at the end that there's a fire and three guys are like dancing around it. Sine I've already had a couple of times when I meet regular folks on the road, I decided not to sneak in and kill them all.

Well, one of them saw me and came over to offer me a drink. "Poison!!" thought I. But no, he gave me a bottle of fine ale and then went back to the party. I stayed with them a few minutes and they started wandering off towards a nearby town. I went back into sneak mode and followed behind them. I looked away for a second to catch a Luna Moth and a couple lightning bugs and when I caught back up they were getting eaten by bears!!!

I put up a good fight in their honor, but I ended up running away. God speed, drunken revelers.

I haven't had a problem. When you equip you weapon in the main hand, go into inventory and add it to favorites. If you added it as a favorite in your left hand, when you call up your favorites it will recall it at the hand you set it at, so just make sure it's not in your left hand when you set it to favorites.

The music is gorgeous. I was worried after the Fallout games of playing this without a radio in-game, but the music is beautiful, even the percussion stuff, and so often it comes into play at the right time, such as when you're just coming across a sprawling valley, or just killed the shit out of a skeleton, or even leveling up.

This game has a majestic quality to it. I can't recall seeing that in a game since Shadow of the Colossus.

I haven't gotten to play very much. I'm only level 1.

Question though:

I played the intro once and followed Advar (or whatever his name is) and ended up in a training den type area, where I could pick up a sword and a chest had some armor. Then we went through a cave that had spiders and a bear in it, among other things.

I decided to re-roll and this time I took my time with the intro, watching the dragon, realizing it was coming after me, etc, watching it eat people, then mosied my way on to the building I was supposed to go in. But I think I went in a different building, because it wasn't Advar this time, it was the Stormcloak that is talking to you on the way to the chopping block. It's a different room too, like a guard tower-esque place.

Is this race-based, or did I just stumble into the "wrong" room and get a different beginning thanks to it?

#406

Frank

Frankie Williamson

No, there's a part where both the stormcrow and the imperial guy both beckon you to follow them, it's hard to hear over the dragonsplosions but both end up in the same place. Go with stormcloak, fight imperials and vice versa.

#407

Hailey Knight

I'm having a really hard time choosing a side in the whole Imperial vs Stormcloaks thing. Both sides have their good points and bad points, and both have their reasons. I prefer that narrative-wise to a plain good vs evil choice, but considering my Redguard, I feel like she might want to avoid getting involved, much like Whiterun's Jarl. And by the same stroke, the more you play, the harder and harder it is not to get involved.

#408

AshburnerX

Honestly, I don't see how it's much of a choice. If the Stormcloaks win, they leave the Empire and then Skyrim gets annexed by the Elves the moment they start worshiping Talos again. If the Empire wins, they have a united front to hold back the Elves if it gets ugly, while Black Marsh decides if it would rather be enslaved by Elves again or not.

Also, I suspect the next game will be in Black Marsh.

I have had a couple bugs where I'll simply get crashed to the desktop for absolutely no reason, but other than that, nope.

Explanations :

I got the same thing, only the game gave me the Inn guy in Riverwood, then afterwards....
another attack and the letter it said it came from a homeless guy in another city. It's random names it seems and awesome.
Made for some pretty epic battles, 3 vs 3.

My story

It was an epic battle.

Suddenly, a trio of thugs attacked me and Lydia out of the bushes. I squared up against the big thug and the others jumped on Lydia. The big thug carried a huge steel axe, while his fellow companions carried two daggers and an imperial bow. I quickly equipped my reliable steel shield and fine elven sword and Lydia held her twin steel swords in her hands.

As the big thug and I traded blows, his huge axe hitting my reinforced steel shield more times than not while I chipped away at his health with low shots to his legs... as the cuts grew his attempts became more desperate with wild swings, his breath heavy and misting the air around him as the snow fell around us. Alas his attempts lacked accuracy which opened him up and he went down begging for his life which.... my elven sword denied that possibility.

Suddenly, the music picks up, as if on queue, I turned around to see Lydia down to one knee, peppered by arrow shots from the archer while she faced a second foe, who expertly held his ground. This foe, his sword in the air was about to perform a deathblow on my new housecarl. As per instinct, I shouted, which struck his harm and he staggered. I bull rushed in with a thunderous running swing that stuns him and puts him down to one knee, a cinematic comes as I stab him violently from the back, my sword piercing him from behind.

I turned around to find the third thug but he's already dead, I ponder how and I see the bloody hoofs of Odius... my jaw dropped as my loyal stead kicked this assailant repeatedly until he expired.

I get to one knee and search their bodies... I find a note on the big thug...

Who is this Mila? And why does she want me dead?

So, I'm riding on my horse, my follower is following. Stop by a bridge to pick up some Nirnroot. As I pick it up, random Mudcrab aggroes and attacks me from behind. I take out my new Glass Sword and scream out, "CRAB BATTLE." We trade hits, this is a big mudcrab.... down it goes.

That done, I turn around to look for my horse... only to see it running down the plains for no reason other than to aggro a Giant that was midning his own business 100 feet away. Horse gets a sneak attack on the unsuspecting Giant and the Giant gets mad and promptly one shots my horse and it goes FLYING into the atmosphere. I'm 100 feet away, not even touching my keyboard anymore, and I'm cracking up.

Suddenly, I notice Lydia is doing the SAME THING.... running across the field and pelting the Giant with arrows, Giant runs down to her... and one shots her too, right into the atmosphere.

I'm laughing HARD right now.

When suddenly.

My dead horse lands 5 feet from me and bounces around.

I fall off my chair.

1. Not random; that's the same end to the Bleak Fall Barrow as I had. It's an important story quest.
2. According to the Skyrim dev stuff, there are no random generated dungeons; each was designed individually.

The game is beautiful, however, as nice as the water and snow particle systems look I keep wishing they had help from the Uncharted folks because THEY know how to make a beautiful game and let your character interact with the environment. I understand the engine has limits but after playing games like Uncharted I expect to see my feet leaving trails in the snow and my clothes getting wet from water.
I'm not complaining, just saying, the bar got raised 2 years ago (and last week with Uncharted 3) and Bethseda is still playing catch up. They are doing a damn good job of it though, it's a game or two away from the Uncharted level of realism I think.

Hmm... now Red Eagle's Blade isn't spawning.

I wonder if I tripped a bug when I murdered the Forsworn king in the prison, just before he had escaped. He had been standing there for a minute, refusing to move, and I couldn't open the door to leave.

I'll try a mainline story mission next. If the object doesn't spawn then I know I have to restart.

I'm not saying I "need" it either, it's just the progression of game graphics. a few years ago you might be telling someone you don't "dust rising, or pretty lights in the sky, or dragons trying to breathe the shit out of me" and a few years before that 2D plains and pixels were fine. Realize, I'm NOT criticizing the game or gameplay, it's, well, this game is breathtaking. I just can't wait to see Bethesda's games at "Uncharted" graphics/physics/effects levels. It's already on the cusp of that with some of the stuff they have going on and it's only going to get better.
You know who I really hope is sitting down and playing this game hard and taking notes? Bioware. They better learn a thing or two here.

Uncharted: A linear game, with basic gameplay and animations in the sense that they are are based around 1-2 character models.

Skyrim: Too huge to even imagine as far as gameplay mechanics and animation models.

You can't compare the two even remotely.

#431

Espy

Espy

I'm not "comparing" them like you think I am.
Skyrim is great and it looks great, especially for the type of game it is. I'm not saying and haven't said that that "Uncharted" is a "better" or "worse" game. It's not about that. Playing Skyrim made me notice the huge leaps over Fallout3 that Bethseda has made and I can't wait to see the next bump in graphics for the Bethseda games, which, with as far as they've come? I won't be surprised if it's got more of the physics and graphics that games like Uncharted have. They are already well on there way.

High Elf Destructomage!

That mask came from a dickhead super lich monster. That fight was the most brutal thing I've run into. Open space, not much cover, he's a deadeye with his fireballs (which explode so big you don't really need to be) and it only took 2-3 near hits to smear me. Took me a half dozen tries.

I don't have the rig to play this game, so it'll be a while before I can play it. Until then, however, I've been listening to the music, and damn if the music isn't epic. I can't stop listening.

I mean, the main theme itself, which we heard in the trailer, makes me want to spring from my chair and declare war on a Nordic nation.
Found a version which will play on my antiquated equipment. I don't get why everyone is so excited about the graphics.

Awesome, now I'm somewhere where I'm fighting Daedra spellcasters en masse on a tiny thin platform with nowhere to move or without any sort of cover. They are taking turns alternating between lightning and fireballs.

Magic seems to have been a mistake.

I'm also certain that magicka regen doesn't work the same way between NPCs and PCs. As in, they have unlimited and I can cast my high level destruction spells 3 times.

They take 10 hits at the least.

There are definitely scaling issues. I'm hoping for a patch to help and I know mods will be available eventually.
For example.... I'm a sneak type. I pick my targets either with a bow 3x or melee 6x. I walk into somewhere and sneak behind this one guard and tap him with my mace or a dagger, one shot. NPC Named "Bandit". If he's anything but a "bandit" for example "bandit outlaw"... I'll wack him for a mace for 6x damage and it took out... MAYBE 1/5 of his health tops? Which is INSANE! Then a battle will ensure. My drop on them was for a very negligible advantage.
I don't EVER feel I'm getting better and them getting weaker. Guys with leather armor are fighting toe to toe with heavy plate guy who's wacking the shit out of them doesn't make sense. When 2-3 come at you, you have a problem.
I do enjoy the challenge whatever but I'd like better scaling.
I've killed 4-5 dragons thus far.... all named Dragon... and they are comparable to a Bandit Outlaw. A good challenge but not unbeatable at all.
I just ran up to a Mammoth at LVL 29 and tried to melee. I got 2 shotted... my companion went flying as the battle started. I'm in full plate gear, 180 defense.... 350 health.
I hope for a patch soon where I can talk to people while I'm riding my horse.
Also, does it happen for you guys as well when you talk to an NPC and you start looking at your feet?
Added at: 03:39
Also, for some reason, my horse has started charging everything that attacks me in the last 5-6 hours of gameplay. Nothing stopped this. He just goes in the thick of things and kicks the shit out of anything.

Just finished the Companions Questline.

The reward really didn't seem worth it... sure, I can take back the axe you reforged and that's a very nice axe against elves, but the other part is kinda... lame. It lets you forge enhanced versions of the Ancient Nord weapons (which are worse than my current choices) and an Ancient Nord armor set (which is ALSO worse than my current stuff) at the Skyforge. If you got that earlier in game it would be better, but mid-game it's kinda lame. It honestly seems like becoming a werewolf is the best part of doing the Companions stuff!

It seems like a 15-20 problem... or it was for me anyway. Now that I've got the Stagger perk, my bow is back to being awesome (even if I still need 2-5 arrows per a target) and I can take on just about anything. Make sure you have the best perks for your preferred weapon type... game seems scaled around you having them. Even then your going to take some poundings so be sure to carry lots of potions or work on your Restoration.

Still having trouble with the Mammoths and Giants though... they just have such huge piles of health that I really can't do anything about it. Even if I poison every shot it barely helps.

I've killed 4-5 dragons thus far.... all named Dragon... and they are comparable to a Bandit Outlaw. A good challenge but not unbeatable at all.
I've started running into Blood/Black dragons. They seem to have more health and different tactics. For instance, the Blood Dragon was flying straight into the air, past the clouds, so I couldn't track him. Then he'd dive bomb me. I've also been running into ones that shoot lightning or ice too. I don't know if it's because I've started spreading out further or if it's my high level (26) though.

My problem lately has been telling whether someone is a decent human being from afar. Thanks to Dave's "drunks around the fire" story, I keep wanting to give people the benefit of a doubt, and then they keep turning out to be bandits who I could've gotten halfway dead from a distance before revealing my position. So now I'm getting into a shoot first perspective... and then I kill a blind guy.

Except now she looks like a brown haired Nord or Imperial. Kinda seems like you should have just made one of those.

I'd also like to mention that this is the first Elder Scrolls game where money felt less than abundant. Since you can't just break into someone's house and turn their food into potions anymore, it's a bit harder to just use alchemy to make a pile of money. Though now Smithing seems to have replaced it...

I've gotten a few Daedric artifacts as well... they seem a little less powerful this time around. I mean hell... the mask I found (Volrund) is better than the mask (Mask of Clavicus Vile) I was going to get for doing the quest I was on my way to! Also, Volrund was a little bitch. It's actually tied to both. And *maybe* tied to the underlying quality of the item, but I'm not sure. Enchanting is definitely awesome in this one.

I'm running a high elf pure mage in this one. No combat skills to speak of whatsoever, roughly 600 magic at the moment. I have destruction and alteration pimped out pretty severely. There is something so incredibly satisfying about dual casting lightning bolts into everything and blasting them across the room.

You pretty much are required to have a melee follower tank for you. Which means that one tricky part about it is that I am finally at a place where I need to start using the Adept level destruction spells more often (fireballs/chain lightning), but I keep accidentally killing my follower. I've started pimping her out in resist magic gear (she's pretty up there at the moment) so I may be able to get away with just blasting her and them both.

I've finished the College of Magic quest line, which (this shouldn't be a spoiler to anyone who has ever played a TES game) left me as the Archmage at the end. It was pretty cool and you get some amazing gear. Now I'm just taking a break from the main quest lines and I am going around killing everything I can get my hands on.

One mistake I've made, and I need to stop it right now, is that I've gotten a lot of skill levels in both enchanting and smithing (like 90 combined). So, with the difficulty scaling the way it is that means I have 9 levels in non-combat related skills.

The problem with wards is that I can't dual cast offensive spells if I am using a ward, and dual casting is insanely powerful.

Found that Koiss/Dragon fight... again, not that hard. I'm playing a Nord so I could just ignore the Frost Dragon's ice and focus on the Lich. Then again, maybe it's because I'm doing 118 damage a shot with my bow, even before adding in things like poison. Current Setup:

- Glass Bow (Legendary Quality, 3 second Soul Trap on hit. )
- Glass Arrows (18 damage)
- Koiss (+20% Bow damage, Alchemy, and something else)
- Ebony Gauntlets (+17% Bow Damage)
- Fortis' Token (+5% to Bow Damage)
- Ring of Minor Archery (+15% Bow damage)
- Ebony Mail (Harder to detect while stealthed, 5 damage poison aura on melee targets)
- Ebony Boots (+17% Fire resist)

I also keep Volrund (+20 Carry capacity, water breath, and I think +20% better pricing) around for those times I need to go diving or carry more stuff.

I think that those anonymous notes you keep getting are tied to the number of times you use shouts or something. The first time I got one it spoke about the town I was in, but the most recent one I received spoke of a dungeon I had just completed. That means people seeing it has nothing to do with it.

This game is amazing. I liked Morrowind, I disliked Oblivion, but I am in LOVE with Skyrim. They removed most of the tedious stuff I hated, put it in a "province" with my type of viking vibes, and throw dragons at me from out of nowhere to kill.

As for what I am playing I can only call myself a Nordic Ranger. He is a Nord that concentrates on light armor, archery, sneak, and two-handers for when things get close. I also have him learning restoration magic and some one-handed combat for those times I need to get a bit of healing in. Speech and Blacksmithing are also high on my list but don't get much in the way of my perk points.

My only real issue is the horrible consolitis.

Right now I am focusing on the main questline and that of the Companions, and even agreed to become a werewolf. I did visit the magic school, and became a student, but I have yet to return there. Figured they would get by fine without one novice hanging out, even more so since magic is rather secondary for me. I have also visited all the major cities and ran a few side quests, mostly playing myself as a mercenary and adventurer. I own a fully upgraded house in Whiterun too.

Once I get a few more quests done I am considering looking for an in-game wife, but I am torn on who I would want. Lydia has been with me since after I killed my first dragon, and has helped me take down another 7 since then. However, they didn't do much to give her a personality, other then a few quips when you question her about the basic stuff and a random "Oh this place is amazing!" I wish she had more quests or anything to give her some more personality. I really like the strong, even mean personality of Aela the Huntress, but I have only adventured with her once or twice. I hear if you marry her you can have her follow you instead of Lydia though, so I might do it just so the two of us can sling arrows at people. I also considered Ysoldre, mostly because I hear marrying a merchant woman gives you a constant stream of extra gold, but that sounds a little to happy homemaker for my gruff nordic ranger.

P.S. Being a werewolf is insane. Anytime I see a fortress that may give me some trouble, I just wait till nightfall and then transform. I run in and when they swarm me I hit Z to roar, scaring them all to shit. I hunt one down specifically, rip him to shreds, eat him to extend my time, and then hunt the next one. When they get brave enough to swarm me again I just howl and do it again. Werewolves also have some of the most brutal kill animations I have seen. I jumped on one female elf that was working for the Thalmor, held down her arms, and then used my jaw to bite into her neck before ripping it out. Due to everyone being scared of me in the form, I don't use it all the time, instead focusing on using it at times I know I need to siege something well defended, or if I know I am not going to be needing it anytime in the next in-game day (and don't have my horse) I use it for traveling too.

Ok, good to know. Also, maybe I should stay out of this thread, I read NOTHING about the game for months to avoid any kind of gameplay spoiler :(
Sorry about spoiling the werewolf thing, I thought it was assumed. Pretty much every TES game utilizes a special monster like form, with vampire being the most noted in all the games. Werewolf was a form in the old Morrowind expansion that involved a Nordic island, so it was one of those things that I thought was obviously going to be the case here, since the whole game will involve the Nord's province.

As for the whole marriage thing, here is a little rundown... Adding spoiler tags this time just in case.

Basically you can visit a town called Riften, and in one corner is a church for a god called Mara. When you speak with the Priest of Mara, he tells you about how people can declare love for eachother under Mara, and sells you an amulet. The amulet acts like a "I am single and looking for a companion" tag, making it so when you speak with certain NPCs, they will proposition to fill that spot and marry you. Some will offer themselves nearly outright once you get the amulet, but others require you to impress them through quests. Aela the Huntress, a archer and hunter, is one of those ones you need to impress by doing all the quests for the Companion faction. I have yet to figure out how to unlock Lydia and make her want to marry me. There are already other NPCs like a merchant in Whiterun that showed interest. They do allow gay marriage, but funny enough none of the possible companions you find lean either way, making pretty much all of them bi-sexual.

So is anyone else having issues with absorbing dragon souls? I have 2 shouts that need to be activated and I've killed and absorbed 3 dragons since I got them and neither are absorbing. Is there something else I need to do?
Have you done the stuff for the greybeards yet? You won't be able to do any shouts (or, I presume, activate them) until that happens.
