Can't help but picture that iconic Bugs/Daffy gag.

Checked out the big two's June solicitations. Secret Empire will be well underway, and have a chunk of tie-ins and one-shots. Marvel, go to hell.

That said, DC is starting their own summer event a little later, Dark Days. I'm a little wary because I'm enjoying Tom King's Batman and I don't want to see it get overtaken by a Scott Snyder Bat event. DC's earned a lot of goodwill from me over the past nine months though, so I might check it out.

I just don't bother with the "event" stuff, I get my regular books, usually so little is involved with the "event" that it doesn't bother me. I've done it for the past few years and haven't had it bother me at all. I'm even fine on a "line-wide" (such as all Spidey titles) storylines that I don't get all the parts of it.

Oh I don't fuck with line-wide stuff. Too much crossover bullshit and I'm out, which is probably why I'm only reading fringe Marvel books right now, and I'm so relieved that Ms. Marvel (at least this far into solicitations) isn't involved in Secret Empire.

Spider-man Clone Saga. They did it again, but they couldn't fool me into reading it again. It's hard for me to get invested in Marvel projects that even sound cool because Marvel's focus is all on the short-term. Generation X sounds cool ... probably won't be around for too long. Everyone got excited about this Hulk project, but that likely ends in November when Hulk revives the same time he's in a big movie. Moon Knight is ending. I'm curious about Scarlet Spider being written by Peter David, but how long until there's another stupid line-wide Spider-man story? Bleh.

I'm at least new to DC. I want to give it a shot and if it sucks, it won't happen again. At least they're not saying "nothing will ever be the same" or "because you demanded it". Bleh.

EDIT: this isn't me arguing against your point; just explaining myself.

Greg Rucka is stepping down from Wonder Woman. :( Says the twice a month schedule is too much and affecting other projects.

Sucks partly because it's been good, and partly because every time there's a new Wonder Woman writer, they want to reinvent the wheel.

Issue #25 will be Rucka's last.

I buy the getting in the way of his other projects, but his run has basically been 2 different WW books. I'm not sure I get the schedule blaming.

Probably because it's just him writing it. I'm guessing it's one more book a month than he wants to be doing.

And since the past and present will meet up by the time he leaves, I'd really rather they bring it down to once a month than him leave. I'm hoping none of the other writers get burnt out.

That's a shame. But 25 issues is a pretty solid run. Short compared to other creative team runs, but still pretty respectable. I think that's about as long as his previous run.

I guess? Tom King said he'll be on Batman for five years so I kinda got the impression a lot of the others planned to be on their books for a longer haul than one year.

I'm hoping they can get Gail Simone on board. Well, have done so, since this isn't DC being blind-sided and they'll have the July solicits ready pretty soon.

Greg Rucka will be replaced by Shea Fontana.

My initial reaction was: "I don't know who that is, maybe this will be good."

Then I saw what she does. DC Hero Girls. Haven't experienced it? Probably it's fine if you're a 7-year-old, but ... well, my wife described it as "pandering, patronizing crap." So yaaaaaay. The latest issue of Wonder Woman revealed some more of what's going on and what it means, with implications that the next story arc would be big, and then Rucka steps away, so this double fucking sucks. Guess #25 will be my last issue, too.

I remember watching the movie they did for that and thinking it was okay, for something focused at very young girls like Monster High. I'd never watch it again, but it was pretty unoffensive.

Rucka's Wonder Woman has been great. Even assuming my wife is being too harsh, dropping from great to "okay" still sucks.

    Okay, never mind!

Fontana is taking over for a 5-issue interlude. What happens next?

Gail Simone is tweeting hints that she'll be taking over after that. If true, then the only thing I'll cancel is my bitching about this.

Legacy (totally not Marvel Rebirth) coming in fall.

    https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/0...ulk-tony-stark-announced-2017-diamond-summit/

They want to return to form, but then shoehorning Planet Hulk in to tie into the new Thor movie? Somehow I feel this is going to miss the mark from DC Rebirth.

But I guess that's fair since around the same time of year the Justice League movie is going to fall short of The Avengers :awesome:.

You're kidding, right? Reaction is as expected. And as expected.

Once is a gaffe. Twice is a coincidence. Three times is a trend. This isn't just tone deaf anymore. We're venturing into downright malicious.

Seriously, FUCK MARVEL. Fuck the whole fucking brand. That goes for the MCU too.

You make yourself hard to join in anger because you swing so far to one side that you risk falling over. The MCU movie division is run by entirely different people ever since Perlmutter was swatted by Disney's rolled-up newspaper.

But anyway, yes, this is stupid and tone-deaf and assholish. Not sure if Marvel's noticed (probably not) but they aren't the only company whose comics are sold in comic book stores, and since midway through Civil War II, they've had a rough time having individual titles crack the top ten sales in stores all over.

At least the last time they did the "Hydra base" gimmick, is was just one store and because you got to meet Chris Evans in the basement. This is just douchy. It's also going overboard on something they shouldn't be super proud of, and that's the Hydra Cap story. It's a well-written story at least up to where I am, really interesting, even scary at times, and if it was just a story, that'd be one thing. But then there's the shit Marvel pulled with it a year ago of saying Cap was always a Nazi, and then the Magneto cover, but the biggest problem is the emboldening of modern day fascists using Hydra Cap as a symbol. Obviously that's going to blow up on them when the inevitable fixing of Cap's mind occurs, but for right now, it's pretty damaging, and comic book shops shouldn't be encouraged to become havens for this bullshit.

I'm sure Marvel will send them a bunch of shirts and decorations whether they want them or not. And then charge them the freight! -_-

The point is they're still all under the Marvel brand. When you fuck up that badly, there's going to be repercussions across the board. Sins of the father and all that. Which is why I didn't simply post "FUCK THIS MOVIE" in the Thor 3 thread.

I have other unrelated reasons why I'm not going to see Thor 3 (or to be hones, most movies in general), but this isn't helping me swing back the other way.

Branding is a matter of public image and most people don't give a shit what goes on in comic book stores. None of this is going to affect the MCU because the MCU is so separate from the rest of Marvel. Guardians 2, Spider-man: Homecoming, and Thor 3 won't be negatively impacted in ticket sales over anything Marvel Comics does.

Since branding doesn't dictate your own thought processes and you're aware of this distinction, then how you handle it isn't some magical thing that just happens; it's a choice.
    --- Double Post Merged, Apr 21, 2017 ---
To clarify: your wording suggests it's a situation of "they did A, so I gotta do B," when that's not true. Obviously don't see a movie or any movies if you don't want to, but it's not like the decision has been taken out of your hands because the comic book side of things did something shitty (again) that has nothing to do with the movie side of it.

Maybe not giving a shit is part of the problem. It's damaging the image of the MCU enough that the actors have had to speak up about it. Chris Evans was particularly upset about the whole Hydra Cap story.

But like you said, the MCU isn't the real issue. The issue is why does Marvel Comics feel they have to go to the Nazi well so often, and in such egregious ways?
    --- Double Post Merged, Apr 21, 2017 ---
It's not that I "gotta" do B. It's I choose to do B because of A, and C needs to be more aware that D is doing A under the same flag as C.

    Or in more coherent terms...
    Comics: NAZI NAZI NAZI
Movies: Hey, comics, you're making us look bad. Stop it.

Pretty sure Hydra Cap was the only point where the movie-going crowd was aware of this. Far as they're concerned, that situation ended in June 2016. Cap's return to heroism after Secret Empire won't get the same amount of attention. By then the movie-goers will have had Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians 2, and Spider-man between Hydra Cap's inception and conclusion.

If there was any chance of it negatively affecting the movies' profits, that'd probably tickle Perlmutter. He's carrying a grudge over having been kicked off the movies in favor of Feige, so any taint he can leave on them using the comics business would stroke his ego.

Rumor is that Marvel Legacy will revert to old issue number count.

No idea what that means for Carol Danvers and Kamala.

I think Carol and Kamala would stick to their current numbers. Even though they're using names held by previous people, they're still "new" characters.

Or I could be wrong. I don't understand half of Marvel's decisions lately.

Yeah, one of them writes Sam Wilson Captain America, the other writes "why do black people bother to exist?" Totally correlates.
    --- Double Post Merged, Apr 27, 2017 at 9:13 AM ---
I think DC was right to only revert numbers on a couple titles. They could probably swing it easier than Marvel if they'd wanted to do more, but Marvel has fractured titles so much that I'm not sure what adds to whose count anymore.

Looking forward to Squirrel Girl making jokes on this later in the year. :D
