The reason is because it's a fun challenge with some potential benefits. If worse comes to absolute worst, I'll have a wizard much closer to 70 than I would have got without the impetus. Think of it like me doing NaNoWriMo but not expecting to get 50K words. (I did it once just to say I had.)...
