Okay, we now have a dedicated TF2/L4D2 server, so this is where we'll discuss it.

TF2/L4D2/CS
These are all on the same server so your ability to play on them will depend on which game it is set for on that day. Schedules are currently being discussed.

In this thread, please let us know which maps you want to see, addons you'd like (if any), as well as what type of gaming events you'd like us to put on.

Right now the maps are:

Steel (CP)
2Fort (CTF)
Viaduct (KOTH)
Badwater Basin (PL)
Badlands (CP)
Sawmill (KOTH)
Doublecross (CTF)
Granary (CP)
Hoodoo (PL)
Turbine (CTF)
Harvest (KOTH)
Warmfront (CP)

We have almost 0 addons at this point, although we did set up Alltalk, so if you hit the 'v' key in-game you can talk to anyone from either team. Now, if we are all using Vent server that might not necessarily be something we have to have, but this is the thread to discuss it.

So let's hear your ideas!

Please when you ask for a server let me know what type of server it is. CP, CTF, etc.

koth_harvest has been added at the end of the rotation. I'm going to hold off on the halloween event or ant special events right now.

How do you guys feel about team balancing? Is it annoying or is it something we have to have? Right now it's turned off.

Team balancing is pretty necessary, assuming you mean auto-balance. If it's shuffling after a team wins x many times in a row, it's nice to have.

cp_granary
cp_warmfront
koth_viaduct

Is there a time when you have too many maps in the rotation or is having a shitload of maps a good thing?

Added these three to the rotation and edited the rotation itself to balance out the types of games. I'm going to try and keep an even rotation so that we don't have 6 KOTH in a row, etc.

And it's in there now. See, I don't know enough about the game to be the overall admin. I was hoping someone here had experience running a server.

Me & Fnord are battling epic style. Then some dude who called himself Dog came in so I broke for dinner (knowing the server would auto-correct). I eat one brat, come back and they're both gone! Come on, man! Don't be scared of little old Dave!

well, that was fun.

especially when doublecross was the 3 people who knew how to play vs the 3 people who don't and we were getting flag caps one right after the other.

LOL and here I thought Dave ragequit LOL.

I acctualy broke to play SWTOR while waiting for miladylove to get home with noms. I'll probably pop on later.

I got kicked, and I can't get back on. It says that it can't CRC hoodoo_pl.bsp. So I deleted the bsp, and the bz2 file of the same name. It re-downloaded them, and then gave me the same message. If I try to connect again after the CRC message (both times) I get "your copy of hoodoo_pl differs from the server". I didn't ragequit, even though I sucked.

Ah, okay, it's a known Mac client bug, flagged since 2010. I can download the maps and install them myself, but it won't automatically download custom maps. Anybody know where I can get the custom map files we're using?

If you haven't already, in settings->keyboard->advanced, enable Quick Weapon Switch.

In multiplayer->advanced options, consider enabling:
Medic: Don't have to hold M1 to keep medibeam up
Automatically reload when not firing
Sound plays when you hit
Display Damage

Also:
Medic for complete newbies

3 weapons:
Primary: Needle Gun
Secondary: Medigun
Melee: Bonesaw

Needle Gun is a projectile weapon and can be difficult to hit with. Use it as a way to cover escapes.

When you first spawn or respawn, automatically hit 2 and pull out the medigun. Stick with somebody good. Whoever you stick with, from here on out called a pocket, will receive the majority of your heals. In return, in theory, they are going to protect you and keep you safe. But don't just heal them. Heal everyone as much as you can.
When using the medigun, you can heal up to 150% of somebody's maximum. So the Heavy has 300 maximum. With the medigun, he can go up to 450. This is called an overheal. All health above the maximum will slowly drain away.
As you heal, there is a gauge that will fill. This is your Uber gauge. When it hits 100%, you can unleash the Ubercharge by right-clicking. This is ~8 seconds of invincibility for you and whoever you're healing. If you switch your healing targets while invincible, the amount of time spent invincible is shorter.
The ubercharge fills faster on injured teammates. Soldier, Demoman, and Scout can injure themselves. If nothing is going on, somebody should be hurting themselves to build uber faster.
The ubercharge is why the medic is so important. Teams need to keep medics safe because that invincibility can win games. The medic must also be able to stay alive as well, but more on that later.

The bonesaw is a melee weapon. You really shouldn't be using this that often. If killing somebody RIGHT NOW is really important and escape isn't an option, go for it. It's pretty last-ditch, but it can lead to some pretty big plays.

As medic, you have two jobs:
1. Heal everyone
2. Stay alive

The longer you stay alive, the more heals you can distribute and the more times you can use the ubercharge. Learn how to dodge. Identify what the other person thinks you're going to do.

General Tips
Keep watch behind you. You don't need to face the same direction as your pocket, so scan for spies or classes going for flanks. Communicate to your pocket anything you see.
Try to avoid open areas. Snipers love to headshot medics.
Stay behind cover or as far away from frontlines as possible. You need to be fairly close, but just try to stay back.
As a medic, if you don't have anyone to heal, hit 'E' to call "Medic!" Your German accent will tell nearby teammates that there is a lone medic, and they should find him to get some heals.
If you die and respawn alone, don't rush out by yourself. Wait for the next respawn wave. Heal those respawners when you go out to the frontline and meet up with your pocket at some point. Your ubergauge will have a higher % that way.
