Video Game News and Miscellany

For the curious, he's based off the original US box art of Mega Man 1, which is easily one of, if not the worst box cover ever. I guess that's Capcom's answer to the throngs of Mega Man fans who have been asking to get him in MvC3 or in a new game.

I don't think Blizzard has a case. They weren't involved with the development of the mod and never claimed to be.
A mod of their game that they provided the content development tools for, using their EULA, which they then had televised tournaments for at their branded convention for years.

If they were trying to establish ownership, I would agree it's too spotty, but it appears more that they're simply trying to block Valve's ownership of the trademark by claiming an emotional association with the brand as well as a functional association to the name (the Ancients in question).

Mojang and Humble Bundle are teaming up for the Mojam this weeked:

Mojang will be programming an entirely new game over the course of 60 hours, while they livestream, with the genre, plot and other stuff decided by the votes of viewers. All the money paid for the game they create will go to charity.

I played like 40% of Revelations before Skyrim came out. It's still on my list... post Skyrim/Mass Effect 3.... so yeah... fall 2012.

The more I hear about Far Cry 3, the more excited I get:

If this game could have the emotional impact on me that FC2 did, with that level of contemplative storytelling, interspersed with similarly exciting combat, I am so sold. Normally such a barrage of foul language and brutal violence wouldn't endear me to a game, but FC2 used it's baser elements to very good effect in a tale about what violence does to men. Far Cry 3 looks like it's going to examine some similar themes, as well as look at trying to stay sane in the face of madness. It's shocking, but I have hope that the story will actually treat it as shocking; and that intrigues me greatly.

I'm actually thinking of pre-ordering this.

Well, I actually got Farcry2 on my PS3, mostly because it was a free download because I'm a plus member. I also wanted to give it another shot due to the discussion in another thread. It still kind of hit a sour note with me. I guess I just can't get into that game. On the other hand, Farcry 3 does look pretty good (all dubstep sucking aside).

This is a real dick move Sony.
Sony Teams Up With AT&T To Anger PlayStation Vita Customers

In short: the PSVita 3G bundle comes with a free month of 3G service and a download copy of Super Stardust Delta. The catch? The free month is the second month of service. You have to pay for at least a month of service to get the free one, and you can't download the game until you've had the service for at least 30 days. None of this is detailed on the packaging, only in additional documents at retailers.

Especially considering they are throwing out that second stick/thumbpad thing already. It seems like waiting for the next incarnation was the right move.

Eh, personally, I love my 3DS. I would never play FPS games on a handheld anyway, so I really dont care about the right analog stick.

Honestly, it's all about having the second stick for Monster Hunter. If the franchise didn't move so many units, we'd have never seen it come out.

I'm still just waiting for the selection of games to be a little less anemic. I really only own 4 3d games for it. LoZ:OOT, Mario World, Street Fighter, and PilotWings (FYI, don't bother). Though, being in the ambassador program(ie, getting totally ripped off on the pricing of the system) they did make a good showing of VMware.

Is it weird that I absolutely despise Microsoft as a PC gamer? Apparently Remedy may still have to do more convincing to get Alan Wake's American Nightmare ported to PC.

.......fuck you Microsoft.

You expect your unified Windows 8 Xbox Live-esque horseshit to fly with PC gamers after your treatment of the platform for the past decade? Fat fucking chance.

I think it'll be much easier for them to convince Microsoft for American nightmare. It's budget price will appeal to the Steam crowd.

I always considered Mech Assault to be the arcade style alternative to Mech Warrior: Fun in it's own right, but I'd still rather be playing the original. Hopefully the online one coming out doesn't suck.

It didn't help that the last Mechwarrior Game, (4 mercenaries) ended on a cliffhanger about the Word of Blake, and so I had to read about what happened next online instead of "experiencing it myself" in game. Because I refuse to buy a console when I have a PC that outperforms any console in all ways.

I suspect this is a prelude to EA removing ALL of their games from Steam. They still think Origin is a success, despite it's young age and limited library.
