Video Game News and Miscellany

Using any of the soldier backpacks involves giving up your shotgun, and personally I've never found that to be worthwhile.

I got the new spy dagger to drop today, pity I don't play spy at all.

Really? I almost never use the shotgun anyway, and the buffs are way more useful.

Are there specific crafting recipes for the new weapons?

They usually make you wait two weeks for recipes. This is so the creators of the items (who get a cut of the sales) can get a fair shot at making some money off of their work.

A patch today made some welcome changes to the crafting system in Team Fortress 2.
  • All recipes are now known to all players.
  • Reduced the cost of most recipes.
  • Items previously crafted using recipes that will be reduced in this update have been upgraded to Vintage quality.
I like these changes. I might really like them if the metal cost for crafting has been reduced enough.

I have a question.

Why does Team Fortress have a crafting system and where can I order a female nightelf dancer?

Valve added new weapons, which people liked. They dropped at random, which people did not like. So, a relatively simple way of taking unwanted extra weapons and making wanted ones seems logical.

I'm glad they backed off the requirements for most weapons. A lot of those recipes were too costly.

Doesn't announcing a new codec imply it already had voice chat?
Yeah, it did, but I thought that was only for games that used the feature. I'm trying to figure out if it's always been possible to start voice chat with a friend outside a game, or if that was just added.

Trine 2 has been delayed until late summer, but it looks awesome. Better graphics, lots more enemies and water puzzles. I'm so excited.

Seeing as we brought it up before, behold! Footage of Kratos in Mortal Kombat:

Interesting how they not only incorporated most of Kratos' GoW 3 moveset but even added the stage from the 2D battle with Zeus. I wonder if Sony Santa Monica gave them the necessary code for the latter.

Oh man that's beautiful. I loved the L4D comic storyline, hoping for a L4D2 comic line too. Thanks for the Portal comic heads up.

Portal 2 is now up for pre-loading so you can play it as soon as it's released. If you've already bought the game, it should be in your games list, and you can right-click on it to choose pre-load.

It should also be mentioned that it's rumored that anyone who bought the Potato Pack (Or all it's games) off of Steam and pre-ordered Portal 2 off of Steam may just be able to play Portal 2 on the 15th instead of the 19th...

However, it may also be tied to PLAYING all of those games.

Hat-less update for TF2
No new hats, but I do find the idea of a coaching mode intriguing. I'm not sure how it'll work, but I'll definitely check it out.
I'm also interested in the revamped voting system.

Also, I knew it! The katana did have a bug that was giving it an increased crit chance! And a lot of melee weapons got a nerf. Though the vita-saw seems to have gotten a buff, as did the Fan-o-war (which I already liked). Interesting, the Concheror actually got a buff. Yes, flare gun buff! I am going to kick so much ass with that.

Oh, I forgot to mention this earlier: Nintendo has confirmed they will be announcing their next console at e3 this year.
Raise your hand if you were surprised by this.
...
No one? Good.

EDIT: All I can say is that it damn well better have HDMI and Dolby Digital or DTS support. You'd think those would be a given, but digital surround sound should have been a given for the Wii.

Any link to an actual confirmation from Nintendo?! Coz all i saw about 2 hours ago was internet rumours.
Nintendo was hoping to surprise everyone in June with this. There is no way we're getting confirmation from them for it until then. However, it is coming in from more than one source and it all happened very recently. Apparently Nintendo is showing off the console to developers well in advance so they can get them started on games for launch. It's supposed to be less gimmicky, so it's likely that it's going to be focusing on more than motion controls this time around.

So they haven't confirmed anything yet...

Not that it's unlikely, it's just that i keep hearing all sorts of dates around which are probably just guesswork.

We've never gotten that kind of confirmation from a company until after a big event, mainly because it absolutely kills sales. The latest redesign Sony did for their console was denied until the next convention, despite photographic evidence of it's existence. Nintendo did similar with the 3DS.

Then you probably shouldn't have said they confirmed it, or at least added that"basically" before the word "confirm"...

PS: I was kinda asking more about any official word on a release date or something...

The wild rumors about controllers remind me of the rumors about storage formats back in the Gamecube days. I don't think the Wii2 is going to have a 6-inch touch screen on it's controller anymore than the Gamecube had Fluorescent MultiLayer discs that held more data than a DVD.

The only way I could see a HD screen on a controller being worth it would be if somehow the system was the controller, and all the game media is digital, and there's some kind of wireless interface to send video to the TV or something.

If the official website is correct, the Warhammer 40k MMO Dark Millennium Online will feature two factions, Order vs Destruction.

...How do you do that with fucking 40k? Nobody gets along! I'm guessing they'll have multiple Imperium bits somehow working with Eldar against Chaos who have tricked the Orks into working with them.

Lame. I have a feeling the development time on that one will be long enough to chuck it in the bin with Conan and the like. I stand by my anticipation of The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2 as the only forthcoming MMOs that are going to bother doing something different from Blizzard.
