"They may take our lives, but they'll never take our LOOOFFFAAAHHH!"

That would definitely have been memorable. Probably as historically accurate as the rest of the movie, too!
Yeah, gotta love the "Battle of Stirling [bridge]"

The thing I remember most was my friend, a history major, complaining about how if William Wallace really had sexual relations with the french girl, he would have been boinking a 4 year old at the time of the events.

I didn't care. I enjoyed it. I don't think I ever was led to expect an accurate accounting.

Heh. Last October my history honor society showed Braveheart. The theme last semester was historically inaccurate films, so we had that movie, The Patriot, and Pearl Harbor on the list.

I dont care that it was inaccurate. I just didn't find it all that entertaining.

I mean I love the Tudors.... talk about inaccurate.

And that's fine too. It's just one of the things I found funny.
Well, the thing that bugs the HECK out of me is with any of these movies or even more often bullshit like The Davinci Code where people think they are now experts on some "historical" thing. Even facts cannot sway those jack-asses.

I'll be honest, Espy, I have no idea why you're so upset. People will be misinformed, no matter what we do. Whether we label it as entertainment or news, people will always choose ignorance over knowledge.

For me, it's just a movie. It doesn't insult me personally. If anything, it helped me discover some history I didn't know before by looking into it. If nothing else, the inaccuracies actually made the truth stick easier in my mind.

So I get to enjoy a movie with lots of action and crazy scenes, and laugh that some people think it is historical. Win/win.

I believe in rehabilitating people who take fiction for fact by giving them a book.

In the face. Repeatedly. With superb kinetic force.

Hardback, preferably.

How about Gibbon's The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire or Mahan's The Influence of Sea Power Upon History? Actually, make sure you get the omnibus of Gibbon's book. It was published in six volumes. I'm pretty sure it can pack a punch.

:wtf:Huh? I'm upset? What? I just jumped into the conversation. People were talking about how this movie or that movie wasn't historically accurate and it seemed to bug them and Fade and I said, meh, we still liked Braveheart. You said "thats fine too. It's just one of the things I found funny" and I responded with a little rant (in the rant thread) about something that annoys me, people who think they are history majors after reading or watching a book/movie that is loosely based on a historical situation. And then you replied with that post and all I can think is that we are having two radically different discussions. :eek:hwell:

The soundtrack to my night so far has been a couple making love in the crashing surf. The client I work with basically watches porn all night.

While he's given me a new perspective on the porn industry, it does get a bit annoying.

I want to be making love to a beautiful woman in the crashing surf :(

No you don't. You get sand everywhere and unless it's a really nice beach it smells and there's garbage.

Hotel beds are much better.
You start on the beach, rolling round in the sand. Then you to the hotel, shower up together. THEN hit the bed.

...I want to be on vacation. :(

My rant:

Husbands who go to bars come home and forget to call then miracously wake up and call at 4 am , I think he's dead on the side of the road at this point! So Ofcourse after calling him 10 times and wondering if he's ok and he finally calls I can't help but explode .....then I get a drunken slurrrrr baby it's ok i just fell asleep, I Ofcourse immediately think this is bullshit but at that point it's 4 am and I'm to tired and mad to really give a shit.........

Ok not a big deal but really god damn irritating.....So once again bedtime fell at 4 am....I've just woken up haven't even smelled my coffee yet and I'm informed I must go pick up dog shit in the yard. ARGH I"M SO IRRITATED and my day hasn't even begun......and for the record I'm so not picking up dog shit till my coffee is in me my shower is taken and I've worked out......I'm making sure I stick with my plan today regardless of drunken passed out husband and dog shit that needs to be picked up !

I officially Boycott all weekends .......Atleast my days during the week are filled with fun and happines.

The End

Looks like I've got the place I mentioned. Basement apartment, the landlord's really nice and it's my favourite part of town. Only two concerns are:
1) When it torrentially rains (like super-hard), there's a leak that runs through the kitchen and drains into the storage room drain. Nothing really that bad, honestly.
2) The exit goes directly outside, which I'm concerned about for my escape artist of a cat. Though, I believe there's a door to the basement that people tended to remove when moving, so I might see about getting that re-installed.

I would rather complain about sand in my ass crack than being alone for the rest of my life :p
You could have sand in your ass AND be alone for the rest of your life.
But masturbating at the beach is so relaxing.

With your Wilson volleyball, you are never really alone.

Are you talking about 4 am your time or his time? He's in Arizona so he's two hours behind you (I think that's right because they don't do Daylight Savings). If he called at your 4 am, then it was only 2 where he is. That's about the time a lot of people get out of bars anyways. From his perspective he was calling you at 2 o'clock to let you know he was okay. That's still inconsiderate but a valid mitigating factor.

For the love of God, woman... make your child stop screeching, or take him somewhere else. I know a cafe isn't a library, but come on. I can let go A LOT when it comes to small children, but he's just entirely too loud.

Why does he have to call?

There's a fine line between challenging game elements, and annoying game elements. If you fall off the platform, you get to do the whole thing over again! 'Cause why not?

Since my parent's divorce, my mother has made friends with a few people back home. One of them was a woman who went to the same church my mother started going to, a woman named Judy.

Judy is an incredible woman. Her husband left her a few years ago, and her only daughter doesn't seem to care much about her mother. Judy is also a cancer patient, undergoing treatments and the like, and in spite of everything, has been one of the most alive women I've met. When I was home back in October, and during Christmas, she was at the house a lot, and spent a lot of time with us. She came out, in January I believe, for some treatment in the hospital out here, and my mother came with her. The three of us spent two days hanging out, laughing and joking. It's weird to think of Judy as my friend because she's nearly twice my age, but she is my friend, and I guess that's all there is to it.

My mother told me tonight that her cancer has taken a turn for the worse. She's in palliative care now, and my mother said that if she had to judge by last night when she went to visit, it could be over within a week. I'm not sure how I'm going to deal with that. I've already come near to throwing up because I won't be able to get out home for what could potentially be a final visit.

Fuck.
