Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

Here we go...

Quick summary: Whaddaya mean we can't continue to price gouge? Customers are just being selfish assholes. We are developing machines that grab people off the streets and shake them upside down for their pocket change. Also, Big Macs cost $30 now so the biggest shareholders can buy a second yacht. Anyone who doesn't support this is a communist.

Boeing Stock Rises After Whistleblower Death

Not an old story, a second whistleblower has died.

"The family of Josh Dean, a former quality auditor at Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems, said that he had died on Tuesday after contracting a sudden illness."
...
"There is nothing to suggest that Dean's death was suspicious, or that it has influenced Boeing's stock surge—the company's stock had already been on an upward trajectory over the past week. "

There's been a lot of "coincidences" that work in Boeing's favor recently.

I think I saw that he contracted a "sudden bacterial infection," which seems like a difficult thing to "arrange," though yes, things certainly DO seem to be going Boeing's way lately, don't they?

The last person I know of who died of a "sudden bacterial infection" was a local Jewelry store magnate who had 5 year previously married a mail order russian bride that inherited, and then liquidated, his entire estate. No real evidence of foul play buuuuut... a little eye-raising.

I don’t want to take away from this person’s experience. It might be totally authentic for them.

But this doesn’t match with ANY of my students, who don’t feel this traumatized at all. They still slam doors, they pop chip bags, they do paint ball or laser tag or play with water guns, they don’t cry during drills. No one has told them to consider who they would die for, and no one falls to pieces when a fire alarm goes off. I really feel like that person needs to speak with a professional about how to deal with these feelings.

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s effort to oust Speaker Mike Johnson failed after 196 Republicans and 163 Democrats voted to table the motion. After threatening to force a referendum vote on Johnson’s speakership, Greene’s Republican colleagues booed her when she officially filed her motion to vacate. In response, Greene said: “This is the uniparty for the American people watching.” The overall vote was 359-43, with 11 Republicans and 32 Democrats voting to move forward with the motion. After the vote to kill Greene’s effort, Johnson expressed appreciation for lawmakers’ “show of confidence to defeat this misguided effort,” calling for “the end of the personality politics and the frivolous character assassination,” adding: “It’s regrettable.” House Democrats, meanwhile, said their willingness to save Johnson this time was a “one-shot deal” contingent on whether House Republicans “further isolate the extreme MAGA wing.” (NBC News / Washington Post / New York Times / NPR / Bloomberg / Wall Street Journal / Associated Press / Politico)

The Ohio House declined to take up a Senate-passed bill to ensure that Biden appears on the November ballot in the state. Under current law, state officials must certify the ballot by Aug. 7 − 90 days beforehand − but Biden won’t be nominated by the Democratic National Convention until 12 days later. Ohio’s Republican Gov. Mike DeWine, meanwhile, said Biden will be on the ballot either through the Legislature or the courts. “I don’t want to minimize that this has to happen, but I do want to minimize anybody thinking that there’s a snowball’s chance in hell that this isn’t going to happen,” DeWine said. “The president’s name is going to be on the ballot.” (USA Today / NBC News)

Well, I guess I don't trust Snopes any more. Seems they've made a turn to the right, with the bullshit "true" rating about the contents of Ashley Biden's diary.

Is the DNC happening later this year? Or did Ohio being forward the date they officially certify the ballot? Otherwise why hasn't this been a problem before & already been fixed?

Honestly I could see either of my 2 possible explanations there being true - Republicans playing games to try & keep Biden off the ballot, or Dems being so incompetent they don't officially choose their candidate until after they need to, to get him on the ballot in every state.

Ohio's the only one with this requirement and it isn't new. There has been a previous instance of BOTH parties scheduling their primaries past the deadline, and the Ohio state legislature passed "one time" exceptions in those cases.

But this time, only the Democrats need the extension, and Ohio is trump country. Republican state representatives said they would go ahead and vote for the senate bill to grant the deadline extension, then didn't, because it doesn't benefit them politically to be cordial.

I don’t know why both parties don’t just move the primary up.
Because everybody tacitly agrees that everything about Ohio is bullshit that should be ignored, including its arbitrary scheduling laws. It's only cropping up as a problem now because it behooves the republicans to make it a problem. Though, to be fair, the Republican governor is saying "I don't give a shit what the legislature or courts say about Ohio law, Biden will be on the ballot."
