[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

The tennants of my apartment mentioned a while ago there was some minor spots of humidtiy, and maybe I should send someone over to look into it. The plumber I asked still hasn't visited.
Now they've sent over this little video. WHAT THE FUCK THAT ISNT A LITTLE HUMIDITY YOU IDIOTS!

Guess my fire insurance will be very happy to get a second claim within a year of the last one for pretty much the same leak. Ugh.

In too much of a hurry this morning, left my gas cap on top of my car after pumping.
A replacement is going to be all of about $10, but still...*groan*.

Me: "Ah, I finally looked around and found a theme I like for my Roku TV. It was a bit of a hassle as setting your theme is 5 menu layers deep and the "store" for them is impenetrable mush, but now that's taken care of."

Roku TV: "HA HA SUCKER, Disney just cut us a check so YOUR THEME GOES AWAY NOW! Enjoy THIS theme we're installing now that is just literally a static ad for Disney+!"

This is why I didn't want a $mart TV.

I've been sick since last week, and on Saturday I was tired and pushing myself to get some food made, and I ended up cutting the index finger on my left hand. Took off about a third of my fingernail, but was shallow enough that I wasn't in danger of losing the tip. Lots of blood, lots of pain, but at this point it's more of an annoyance than anything. I didn't mention it sooner because I was so stressed worrying about it that I didn't want to think about it too much.

So, between that and being sick, I stayed home from going to my grandmother's for Thanksgiving. So I'm home alone. That's not really part of the rant, since it's neither good or bad. I'm too tired and feeling awful to worry much about missing out on anything, but I'm also kinda relieved to not be worrying about my dad and uncle bringing up politics (which they usually don't, but with the impeachment going on....)

Work is closed today because the building has no power.
Everyone got sent home, with pay.
...but today's my day off.

We just got finished booking our trip to Disney for January when my Aunt & Uncle emailed my whole family saying they are going to pay for tickets and lodging for a family Disney trip next November (they are both doctors with no kids, that's how they can afford it). We only have to get ourselves down there and pay for food. So now we are going go to Disney World TWICE in ONE YEAR! *harrumphs dramatically*

...wait, this isn't the Epic Win thread ;)

Last night we blew a fuse. I was playing Ark at the time and had just started adventuring underwater, which is VERY dangerous. I was getting chased by a big fish with teeth and keeping up, but then everything went dark. Ran to the store - Walmart since it was after 11 and all hardware stores were closed - bought a new fuse...and nothing happened. So now the basement, main bedroom, the ONLY bathroom, and half the outlets in the living room are dark. Just heard from the landlord. His electrician doesn’t work on Sundays.

My wife and I are currently back in the UK to attend our graduation ceremonies. Hers is today. Unfortunately right now we're standing here in Paddington station because all train services have been suspended, as a result of some guy climbing onto the track and getting hit (and killed) by a train.

If we miss her graduation because of this dumbass deciding to get himself killed, I'll... well I suppose there isn't much else I could do to him. But I'll be very upset.

Disruption expected to last at least another hour.

Welp, I guess today's the day I'm thankful that I installed a dash cam.

Also very thankful that I checked it yesterday and found out I had accidentally set it to time lapse mode, and changed it back.

Rescued from the latest forum hiccup:

So my wife works at a dog training and boarding place. Her co-workers are, for the most part, morons. Some of it is management failing to train, but a lot of it is just laziness and plain old dumbassery. So last night they put this one large aggressive dog in a plastic crate. It had escaped that kind of crate several times before. It can't get out of the larger metal ones though but for some reason it wasn't in that one. It got out and attacked a puppy who was trapped in it's crate and maybe killed it. Puppy is at the emergency vet and I haven't heard from Wife if it's going to pull through or not. Puppy's brother won't stop crying apparently.

Like I'm just so pissed that no one ever listens to my wife and won't trust her to be in charge of this stuff like she wants. So a puppy might die because of some dumbass. It's a small business too, so if they get sued into the ground there goes her job, so there's that too.

Surprised they let large, aggressive dogs be boarded, frankly.
phil said:
The large one might have been there for training. They keep the dogs there for a few weeks while they get trained. It might have been there to help train it to be less aggressive.
phil said:
But also yes, one of the things my wife has campaigned for is less aggressive dogs. No more cane fuckin' corsos for sure. But again, they don't listen to her.
phil said:
Update: puppy still not out of the woods but they company is looking at a 10-15k vet bill.

And thats before the family almost undoubtedly sues

Holy shit this thing keeps getting more wild. So it apparently wasn't a large dog. I misunderstood my wife when she gave me the bullet points this morning. It was a terrier that did it. But it was there for aggression because it may have killed a dog BEFORE this incident. But the real kicker? This dog was off the books. The lead trainer, who only has a job there because he's friends with the owner, was training it off the books for his mechanic in exchange for the mechanic fixing the trainer's car.

The owner of the company didn't even know the dog was there.

There was a horrific 18-wheeler accident today on the way into work this morning. I was literally stopped for an hour. So I get to spend an hour's vacation time for sitting in traffic. -that is not the rant.
When they get enough of the debris out of the road, and start letting the cars go, it still takes 30 minutes to get up to the wreck site. -that is not the rant
The last couple of hundred feet before we get to the wreckers we started zipping, letting every other car to merge. Then at the last minute some woman in God-damned hurry, driving a fucking expensive Cadillac Escalade cuts me off and forces her way into my lane. -that is not the rant.
SHE FUCKING STOPS AND RUBBERNECKS AT THE GRIZZLY SCENE FOR OVER 30 SECONDS. What a fucking ghoul. When we finally get past the wreck the next car before her is already a mile up the road. -that is the rant.

My daughter got an 8/10 on her last math test and she can do corrections to boost it to a 9. This is the first time she's actually scored low enough to make it worth doing corrections and she is fighting me tooth and nail about doing them, while also clearly needing help on the things she missed and is refusing to ask for it.

All of this is just reinforcing my belief that she needs to learn how to do this shit now before school starts getting harder, but holy fuck is it irritating to deal with.

Update on the incident. The puppy has been stabilized and is being kept sedated for pain. Looks like it just might pull through after all. They can't get further updates though without talking to the owners though so.... Unlikely.

Company owner threw out "70k" in terms of how much this is going to end up costing though. Still a big yikes for the company.

Soooooo... we're currently on the train on our way back to London, except the train is currently sitting in the station because, you guessed it, there was a fatality on the track just ahead of us. Fairly close to where the last incident happened, actually. It's gonna take another hour or two to clear.

I'm not sure what's happening in the Maidenhead/Taplow area, but apparently the train tracks are an unusually popular place for people to converge.

Should've taken the Eurostar to Brussels. Could've had a nice dinner with a co-pervert forumite. Ah well.
