[Movies] The Upcoming Movies Trailer Thread

I look forward to all the Gemini Man/Spies In Disguise(/Bad Boys For Life) mashups.

What really sucks about this is I wrote a short story and it's always been percolating in the back of my mind about an assassin that is a clone. In my story the Alpha is still is custody and the clones are connected. So while I don't think it's the same it might be time to shelf that idea.

Top Gun: Maverick
Not enough Manny Jacinto in that trailer. I have no idea if he has a big role or a small role, but I needs me more Jason.

...What the fuck?

For a good chunk of my life, you couldn't turn on the local channels without a commercial for Cats coming on. Nice to see it's as "WTF?" as ever.

Not, like, Starlight Express levels of WTF, but commercially successful WTF.

I remember what it felt like when The Wiz first released.
This feels a lot like that.

Also Idris Elba makes a smashing Macavity.
James Corden is a good choice for Bustopher Jones.
If Jason Derulo can pull off Rum Tum Tugger's swagger on top of that, that'll be enough for me to call it decent, and everything else will just be gravy.

I am a huge fan of the the Cats musical. I've seen it twice, once in New York and once in London. I can sing the whole thing from beginning to end, apart from that weird dogs-and-cats song, which I never really liked. I love the music, the staging, the choreography, and the fact that the musical involves physically fit people in tight bodysuits prancing about everywhere.

And even my reaction after watching this trailer was "ehhh..."

Top Gun: Maverick
What kept going through my head here was Kirk's speech to Picard from Generations, the one where he basically says (paraphrasing) "don't let them promote you, because while you're a Captain, you can make a difference." Same deal here, above a certain rank you don't get to fly. One would think that it would also apply above a certain age though.

It does. The movie premise is fucking stupid. In fact, if you are promoted after a certain rank you are excused from the military and drummed out. Maverick would have been out years ago.

That's kind of disappointing, I know a while back the idea was that he'd been made into one of the instructors at the Top Gun Academy having to train young hot-heads like himself, in the face of an age of diminishing air combat and the imminent replacement of fighter pilots entirely by drones. This doesn't look like that.

I wouldn't give too much on a first trailer that's mostly reshoots of iconic scenes from the original to start the hype.
After all there is dialogue that could be interpreted as talking about the dying species of fighter jocks.

I mean, they couldn't make that movie. The military wouldn't support it.

Instead it will always be Captain Cult Leader's Air Force Recruitment Movie.

And Cats looks so God damn ugly that it's probably time everyone apologizes to the Sonic movie CG people, because in comparison, fuck.

Do we have a TV trailers thread? Do we need one or can we just change the title of this to include trailers in general?

Either way,

I heard the navy placed recruitment officers right in the cinemas during the release of "Top Gun".

And "Cats" is weird. Why not a animated movie with cats that look like cats?
