Random Video Game Crap

I got a one week ban from the PS:T Steam sub-forum for calling out this guy on his bullshit. Apparently "Turn up the difficulty or stop whining. The slider exists for a reason. USE IT. Don't give excuses that are outright lies." is a personal attack.
I don't know the context, but I get the meaning he's going for. I kind of feel the same way about hard mode. On many games, it's not really "harder" it's more "tediouser". Making the enemies absorb more damage and me less doesn't really change the gameplay, it just makes it easier to die. I mean, I get that that's a type of harder, but it's not really what I mean when I say I want the game to be more difficult, and maybe this guy means the same.

He said, "Yeah, that's true [that you can raise the difficulty] but feels fake to me. I usually play all games on the default, normal setting that they start with. I never modify difficulty settings because it feels kind of like purposely handicapping yourself....like I am fighting an enemy and decide, "Hey, I think I'll just cut off one of my arms because they are too easy...." I try to get into the RPG and lose myself in the world for a while...only game I ever raise difficulty on is probably Diablo III because you kind of have to if you want to keep playing and gaining levels, etc....after beating the game"

It was the "lose myself in the world for a while" that got me, because he's the same guy who said "I really could care less about what the NPCs actually have to say....lol :) ", was sick of reading dialogue, and was going around slaughtering NPCs just because he could (He hadn't even gotten to any of the more interesting combat encounters in the game). It's a wildly different thing to say that turning up the difficulty doesn't actually improve the combat, and saying that you're not going to even try that because it breaks immersion, when you've already thrown out the game's core mechanics and ignored the immersion the game is trying to offer.

Combat is poor in PS:T, I won't argue that, especially compared to Baldur's Gate. Mainly because it is very easy (and even turning up the difficulty doesn't solve the core problem that healing is instantaneous). But there is strategy to be had, and turning up the difficulty will either force you to find that strategy or force you to buy warehouses of healing items. Personally I don't turn up the difficulty slider, because getting through encounters with minimal use of items is incentive enough for me to seek the most effective combat strategies, and I'm playing the game for the dialogue and choices more than the combat, but some people just can't seem to create their own motivation in games ("Vita chambers make the game too easy, Bioshock is boring because you can just smash things with your wrench until you respawn with no penalty. It's a cheap and boring and the game is ruined because I'm an impulsive toddler who can't control himself long enough to actually think about combat unless the game forces me to!")

In the end, I don't know why this guy was playing PS:T, and I thought it was completely appropriate to point out that he had no interest in actually playing the game.

Similarly, I don’t enjoy games where “harder” means “we let the computer move/think faster.” While making the CPU opponents move at 2x normal speed IS more of a challenge, the fairness factor suffers when you can never score against the computer because e.g., the CPU goalie can always calculate exactly where the puck is going to be within milliseconds of it leaving your stick, or can calculate exactly how hard to hit the cue ball off 4 different rails to sink a shot.

So I tried diving into the world of modding for The Witcher 3. However, I tried re-launching the game twice - once through Steam itself and once through the Nexus Mod Manager, but they're none of them appear to be working. For example, I have one that allows Geralt to jump in shallow water, but it's not doing anything different.

The mods I tried installing include:

-Geralt Cloak
-FCR3 Immersion and Gameplay Tweaks
-Jump in Shallow Water

Any advice on this?
Have you tried manually installing the mods in (Witcher 3 folder)/mods?

Also, from what I hear, mods in witcher 3 might only take effect if you start a new game after installing them. Saves from before the mods were installed might not use them.

I'll try starting a new game first. Technically, I started a new game, but it was New Game+ mode.

Apparently you did.
I've always said the Anonymous? checkbox is too close to the Submit button. Well, not the button, actually, but because clicking on the label (the text of the word "Anonymous?" itself) will act as though you checked the button, it's not hard to do since there's so little space between the word and the post button.

Watch your pointer as you move past the word Anonymous. If it's still an arrow, it will check the box. Only when it shifts to that bar thingy are you in the clear.

I've found two time capsules so far, but not any with pets inside :p One had a "hang in there!" kitten poster. I hung it up in my seabase's bedroom.
I beat the game but couldn't think of anything witty to put in my time capsule, so I just stuck some nutrient blocks and bottled water in there. I expect it won't get the necessary upvotes to get put ingame.

All of it true, but difficult when on mobile or when trying to submit a post before anyone at work notices I'm on HF.

So I tried starting a totally fresh Witcher 3 game. Still no mods showing up. And I'm not entirely sure how to manually install them. I tried looking it up and it seems like I copy the files into a Mods folder in the main Witcher 3 folder, but that didn't seem to do it. Pretty sure I'm doing something wrong.

Two stipulations I found were that the mods folder might not actually exist, and you might have to create it (in the root witcher 3 folder), and that the mods have to be unzipped in that folder, rather than just putting the zip in.

Both of which I'd already done. In fact, it looks like NMM did it for me when it installed the mods.

The mod files don't appear to have XML files. :/ Also, his issue is the mods aren't showing up in the Settings menu. They're not showing up for me at all.

Think I'm just gonna give up at this point. I really have no idea what I'm doing.

I had this feeling so many times when trying to learn how to mod fallout and the like. I'd always just set it aside for a little while and come back, and then somehow it would just click.

That's stupid on so many levels. Most important of which is the misunderstanding of what a literal "chicken dinner" is. It's not just chicken.
Yeah, you go to the store, to the frozen food section, find anything that says "Chicken dinner" and it'll have vegetables and maybe even dessert!

I just got an e-mail from an old warhammer guildmate (I used to be guild master of a small guild back then), that he's playing again... which came as a surprise to me, given that Warhammer Online was shut down in 2013.

But apparently there's a group of people who are running a private server now. It says there are 300 people in game as I type this. So, if you are curious what you missed if you never played Warhammer Online, you can try it for free - provided you know how torrents work (the client is torrented).

I don't know if I myself will venture back in... I've kind of soured on MMOs in general, and a lot of bittersweet memories back there, too.

I've really been enjoying Oxhorn's videos on the Fallout games. It's been interesting to see what all the paths not taken were for New Vegas. Especially videos like this one, detailing a character I never had as a companion:

In the end, I bought the playstation bundle to my godson and his brother. I promised them that I will buy them any game they wanted if they finished every megaman game in the collection. They gave up in Megaman 1.
