Tsumani alerts, warnings, and watches have just gone out after big Alaska quake. Stay safe and dry, all you west coasters and Hawaiians.

I kind of want to put "IDK my BFF Jill" in a Thunderdome with "What's a computer?" and let them duel to the death.

The sad thing is, I am 100% sure Apple's marketing people planned for that line to piss people off, but knowing that doesn't make me any less irrationally mad at it.

Last night Supergirl used a shot of Houston to represent National City. Strange, normally the cut scene would be a city with several cgi buildings added in...

I had to stop and rewind because I am not used to seeing home on national TV.

I always fancied Williams (née TransCo) Tower to be an obvious supervillain hideout. It's a skyscraper. Not downtown, way out in the 'burbs where it's rare for another building to be over 4 stories tall.

Not to be that guy or anything, but Williams Tower is right smack in the Galleria. It's pretty building-y there.

There is a Galleria Mall, sure, but Galleria is a whole borough with lots of buildings. I turned around and snapped this wider shot of Williams Tower out my office window just now:

[DOUBLEPOST=1516736547,1516736381][/DOUBLEPOST]Not saying it wouldn't make a great supervillain HQ, but I just wouldn't call that the suburbs. Just being nitpicky.

That is significantly more built-up than I remember it being (it has been decades), but it still sticks out like a sore thumb.... or like a supervillain hideout. It just screams "I'm not going to be downtown with all the other skyscrapers, I'm gonna go be tall over here, where nobody else is tall, because then everybody will see I'm important-er!"[DOUBLEPOST=1516736725,1516736608][/DOUBLEPOST]

Meh, it's outside 610. It's technically burbs.[DOUBLEPOST=1516736844][/DOUBLEPOST]Also: TIL you can get Williams Tower from the workshop for Cities:Skylines

Way back in the early 90s in college, my friend and I used to have this stupid fantasy that the top floor of this abandoned, shuttered art deco hotel in Charleston, SC (where we lived) would make a great superhero HQ. The windows would be all busted with flowy curtains and pigeons and crime labs, and the whole hotel had this haunted feel. The hotel was by far the tallest building around, and it looked like a piece of Manhattan had somehow teleported itself to SC.

Some developer bought it a few years later and renovated it. Fortunately they kept the deco, haunted feel, and it's a really nice building. It's called the Francis Marion. Here's some shots:

I have so much little crap laying around just in my office alone that Imma gonna need about three more totes just to hold 'em all...

I used to work on the 52nd floor of the transco. I was in the elevator one day when a tornado touched down a few blocks away. Feeling the building sway was frightening enough, but the elevator banging back in forth in the shaft like the clapper of a bell was heart-stopping.

TIL where fade works. And now that I think about it, someone at your company might be business acquaintances with a family member. I'll have to ask the when I have a chance.

Funny, this looks almost exactly like two buildings on Broad St. in Philly. If you hadn't mentioned SC, I would have sworn it was one of those.
