[PC Game] Hearthstone (Practically Beta)

Spent all my gold, plus preorder, got eight legendaries in 100 packs. Only one prince, thankfully. Pally, priest, warlock, and shaman death knight heroes, plus the other druid, shaman, and hunter legendaries, the last of which being my favorite right now.

Only 31 packs total for me (including the one given by the solo part), ended up getting Priest and Warrior DK. Also crafted the Lich King because holla at that value. Played one game with my new highlander Priest DK deck and as it turns out, Raza makes that hero power a lot more fun. Routinely did 10+ damage per turn with the void form alone.

To shreds, you say...?

Oh shit, I didn't even think of Raza and DK Priest. I'll have to put the DK card in my existing highlander priest deck.

I haven't crafted anything yet. It seems a lot of people I've faced either got Arthas from packs or crafted him, but not one has given me trouble. I've been able to remove each the very next turn one way or another.

Still need to do the adventure prologue and get one more DK.

I've been playing Highlander priest, and Lich King is great when you resummon him with eternal servitude

Yesterday was payday.

On the one hand, I really don't want to spend money on more packs.

On the other hand, if I buy more books, they're just going to join the queue of books I own that I haven't read yet, whereas new Hearthstone cards will get immediate use.

On the third hand, I need to save money for those Persona dancing games next year.

There's also Overwatch loot boxes, which are no longer the scam they were before the dupe fix.

In other news, I've grown so many arms! Weeee!

You might need to grow another one, just so you can slap some sense back into yourself.
Might even need to go full Zenyatta on yourself.

There's nothing wrong work spending money on something you enjoy. And that's how I justify it.
That settles it. Get a couple of bills settled on Tuesday, then pull the trigger on a MasterCase 5 Pro and rebuild the main system. It'll make what I have more efficient while I restore the bank account for the likes of a 1070 GPU. :)

There's absolutely nothing inherently wrong with the spending of money on fun so long as a) all your needs and responsibilities are met, and b) the game itself is not one where your chance for victory is determined by the amount of money you spend (such as clash of clans, et al). Hearthstone (and even Magic) DO meet both of these criteria, because even though spending more helps, there is an eventual ceiling beyond which additional spending brings no additional benefit (though the ceiling for MTG is MUUUUCH higher). With the advent of "no more duplicate legendaries," Hearthstone's ceiling was even lowered significantly.

That said, when someone says something like:
I really don't want to spend money on more packs.
...then I have to assume there IS some sort of dilemma going on, one which may require reflection and a possible resetting of priorities, perhaps through manual adjustment by way of face.

I never put bullshit above responsibility. Everything's budgeted. When I tell my friends "I can't go do that, I don't have the money," I don't mean my bank account is empty. I mean that the money squared away for guilt-free spending is either insufficient, or because I don't want to go :p. So the priority shifting is really that I probably want something else more than Hearthstone cards and that something would probably give me more enjoyment when I already have plenty of the new cards to play with.

In the end, I spent $10 more. I'd rather save up other spending money for the aforementioned games, or the Wonder Woman Blu-Ray, or more books I'll take months to get to. Hearthstone is fun, but ideally the only money I'd be putting into it would be the pre-order packs.

OH MY GOD DEAD GUL'DAN I HATE YOU.
Is his really that good? I have the card, but it isn't doing wonders for me. Maybe I'm not putting a decent deck together.

I don't think so. Though, he's not -bad- either. If your opponent has any way to deal with the swing turn of summoning a big board at once, then the remaining power of the changed hero power isn't really enough to drastically turn a game.

I guess Beardo wouldn't be of assistance?

Of course, at that point you might as well just play Death Knight priest with Raza. That's something I need to work on later.

He's a giant asshole against all of my slow decks. That said, I had one that cleared his own board on accident with defile because he forgot he had spell damage +1.

Eh, refreshing DK gul'dan hero power isn't really that powerful. It's main use is in staying power, being able to provide board damage while healing you up to allow for longer, slower games. Chaining spells together for a otk three damage at a time is less likely, just play mage and throw fireballs at face.

Scratch that. Pretty much scratch everything not mortgage related. :(

That looks like a hard deck to play. Maybe even harder than Patron Warrior.
I didn't know about the Dead Man's Hand card, but now that I do, it's obvious that it fills the slot that Jade Idol does for Druid, meaning it's the one that lets you generate infinite cards if played correctly (and immunize yourself against milling).

--Patrick

If you are milling correctly, then the warrior is going to burn all their useful cards. If anything, this deck is pretty vulnerable to being milled at the start.

If there's one thing I've noticed about the current high-level Hearthstone meta, it's that just about every duel these days plays out as, "I just need to survive until I get my magical 7 cards in my hand at the same time, and then I will execute my win condition."

--Patrick

So many deck ideas I want to try, so little time.

I ended up hitting the very end of the pity timer; I don't think that's happened to me in a long time, but I counted. Felt ridiculous. On the upshot, I expected after all that to open one of the princes. Instead I opened The Lich King :D. Now I'm free to waste dust crafting some fun but shitty, like the Hunter DK, now that I've got the alleged MVP card.

A Saronite mine, actually. AKA the crystallized/calcified blood of Yogg-Saron, aka the stuff Icecrown Citadel is made of. It also drives people insane if they're exposed to it long enough.

So, you know. Just another day for the chain gang, way down in the hole.
