Former President Trump Thread

Part of me wants to think that "sending hundreds of thousands/millions of innocent people to their horrible deaths in nuclear fire and 60's artillery shells" is the line that the Republicans won't cross, but thus far they've proven me wrong every time I've thought they actually had a conscious.

And, in the end, it would only justify Putin if he ever decided to use his for something. He already thinks he can win a nuclear engagement.

China to North Korea: We will not help you if you attack the US first and they retaliate.

China to the US: We will back North Korea if you attack first.

So there you have it. The fucking CHINESE GOVERNMENT is the adult in the room and may be the only thing that keep this from blowing up.

To be 100% clear, this is an editorial from a government-aligned (but not always saying EXACTLY what they want) newspaper. From the article you linked:
The Global Times newspaper is not an official mouthpiece of the Communist Party, but in this case its editorial probably does reflect government policy and can be considered “semiofficial,” experts said.
That said, like the reporter at the Washington Post, I have no doubt this is "right from the top" without actually saying it.

The exact quote from the article about what China would/wouldn't do is:
“China should also make clear that if North Korea launches missiles that threaten U.S. soil first and the U.S. retaliates, China will stay neutral,” it added. “If the U.S. and South Korea carry out strikes and try to overthrow the North Korean regime and change the political pattern of the Korean Peninsula, China will prevent them from doing so.”
The important "wiggle room" there is "threaten U.S. soil," which isn't the same as strike it.

To me this says "Your move Kim." China's saying (without exactly saying it) that if Kim fires missiles "around" Guam, China will stand back and not intervene. But others may have other interpretations.

Yup. This is "official". In other words, we can't come right out & say it so this is the track we are taking. Essentially, it's NK don't do it, US don't do it.

As I said above @Dave, this is where it gets "interesting" and probably not in a good way. How much is "threaten"? 10 miles off the coast of Guam? 50? 200? If they hit the island (deliberately or accidentally) that's not hard to determine, but the other parts are.

For reference:
International Waters: 200 miles out
Exclusive Economic Zone: 12 to 200 miles
Territorial Waters: 0 to 12 miles

So what's "threaten" there? HOW threatening?

Edit: and now that China has said what its lines are, I do not advocate intervention until Kim does something else stupid. It was very ambiguous before, now it is significantly less ambiguous, to the point that action should not be taken at this time due to China's stated response.

Guam TV is running "what to do when the bomb falls" PSAs. We've come to this.

There's nothing more I can say about this that isn't mindless rage.

You've gotta stop drinking so we can get out of this reality
Here's a scary alternate reality. In some other universe, Mike Pence resigned one night. By the next morning, *I* had been nominated and confirmed as the new VP. They arrive at my door to swear me in just as I'm having coffee.

Less than five minutes after being sworn in as Veep, Teh Donald dies of a massive stroke at his golf resort. That's right, suckers! In some other reality, I've been plucked from obscurity and am now POTUS! :troll:

I mean...it cant be worse.

It could be worse... for the F-35 project and crap like that. Did anyone ask the pilots who fly them or the folks who maintain them what they think? I would. If the troops think a weapons system is shit compared to this older and cheaper one still doing the job? Shitcan it and put the savings into roads and bridges and science.

Oh, the irony.

“Up until now, I’ve never had a feeling that my own government is cracking down on me,” a shirtless and damp-looking [Richard] Spencer said in a livestream video after he escaped the scene, saying that anti-fascists had attacked him with pepper spray and that he was kicked by police officers holding shields.

Every time I read the news about this asshole and his pathetic failures as a leader, I'm not sure whether I want to kill myself or everyone who supported him.

Well, I'm too lazy to kill all his supporters, so I guess I should do myself in instead.

But goddamn. I wish this country had the courage to call these people what they are - domestic terrorists. And deal with them accordingly.
