I'd suggest v1 #334-#349 as well. (Basically, all of Walter Simonson's run on the book.)

Yeah, I saw Simonson elsewhere. And that DeFalco was okay, sometimes shit - but a fun read.[DOUBLEPOST=1481349193,1481348997][/DOUBLEPOST]

What kind of sadistic ass-hole would make "Night of the Monster Man part two" NOT Batman Rebirth issue 8?! They monster-men look straight out of Akira too all fleshy and what-not, GRAH friggin' DC.

Yeah - I was annoyed that it was a Nightwing issue. The Detective team made some sense - but not him.

Yeah. I'm not sure why they felt to do a batfamily crossover book. Especially for the second arc.

It does say at the end of each book where to read the next part.

But really, it's not worth it and you can start the next Batman arc without having missed a thing.

This current arc is solid, but by the end of part 2 it's clear that Tom King intended it to be read in trade form. I just can't wait for DC's slow asses to put out the trades, otherwise I'd wait.

Allegedly they'll be starting deluxe hardcovers for certain Rebirth titles next year, so the contents of trades 1 and 2 for Batman would be better collected that way. Might check out current Wonder Woman at that point as well.

I've started Nova, post-Annihilation.

I think part of my issue with Annihilation is that it was narrated by Nova, but it didn't sound like Nova and he acted strange compared to the mini. Now that I'm in Nova's book, this is much better.

But it's Abnett, after all. He knows what he's doing.

Abnett wrote the Annihilation: Nova mini, which was great, but the main event was written by whoever did the Silver Surfer mini, whose name escapes me. I thought he did fine with that and the more stoic characters, but the more human characters like Star-Lord and Nova came off as very banter-heavy and uncharacteristic.

Ah, you're right. I just checked my books' credits. Keith Giffen was the writer. Which is strange because he's usually pretty good with characterization. Though he does lean onto the banter side often, so that would make sense. I took it as Nova and Star-Lord bringing that out of each other because of the bond they made during the war.

Would've been nice to get to see that relationship form, Marvel, but you guys were too busy turning Tony Stark into a villain at the time.

Ridiculous that this Nova series launched in 2007 and yet was still having to wipe up after Civil War. Unreal.

At least Nova is a fresh perspective on it, having come from about as far outside and yet connected as you can, but it's like Marvel wouldn't let it go away.

Finished first three Nova, Annihilation Conquest Prologue, now into Annihilation Conquest: Quasar.

I love the way paneling is being done in this, almost without panels, but Marvel Unlimited is struggling with how to make sense of it. These are the kinds of comic book pages that look best on paper.

Me: "Marvel Unlimited doesn't connect everything, so after Annihilation, you have to read the first three issues of Nova, then Annihilation Conquest Prologue, then Quasar's four issue mini, and Star-Lord, and Wraith, and ... there's a whole chart to get through the Annihilation ones, then it'll switch through different issues of Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova around the War of Kings--"

Hell yeaaaaaaaaah that was awesome . I should've seen that climax coming, but I didn't and I loved it*. And then the closing part ... really excited to see if the other minis shape up this well.

Annihilation Conquest: Starlord was solid. Maybe I just had a problem with how he wrote Nova or with how the first half of the main Annihilation event seemed to just jump into its own thing and not give a damn about the minis I liked, but with Starlord as the main character and the team of misfits, it all was put together really well.

That said, I'm onto Annihilation Conquest: Wraith and I cannot stop rolling my eyes. Did a 12-year-old come up with this character? "He's so badass, riding the universe on his space-motorcycle, and then he's super stoic and when the Phalanx attack him, he's just like 'I don't care' and they're so afraid of him that they completely shut down. And he's the only one who can stop them, but when the Resistance asks for his help, he's just like 'I don't care, I'm just here for the one man I want to kill,' and even when they beg, he's just like 'I don't care.' And then he's captured and tortured, but he just smiles because he's so badass. And he has the origins of both Batman AND Superman."

This feels like a character Lobo would be a parody of, except Lobo pre-dates Wraith by a long while.

And it's the same guy who wrote Annihilation: Super Skrull. And those are all he's written for Marvel.

He sucks.

I'm actually enjoying Conquest more. After the Wraith atrocity, Nova was brilliant and the main event has been solid so far.

Make sure it's the rebirth RHatO! Also, issue 0 is where you should start off. Or, I think it's Red Hood and the Outlaws Rebirth 1, which leads into Red Hood and the Outlaws 1.

Basically every title in the New 52 aside from Justice League. Suddenly Batman was Jim Gordon in a robot suit everywhere excepts where Bruce was fighting alongside the Justice League against Darksied, Anti-Monitor and Wonder Woman's edgy Lobo-esque sister.

Readin' Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol run, loving it...but I of course have qualms. For starters, sometimes it feels like these are just normal super hero stories covered in a layer of surrealism that is only there for the sake of surrealism. Two, why the fuck couldn't they get John Constantine? No excuse they'll give will feel right for me, he was part of the DCU before his own series. Three, that Shadowy Mr. Evans character....basically Mr.Mxyzptlk with a sex theme, hell they beat him basically the same way! I'm hoping the character will add up to something, or at least they'll acknowledge his Impishness because that felt ALMOST anti-climactic. And four....Brain and Mallah went out like punks in that one issue, just saying. Once again, still love it, but can't help but poke and prod.

AND-I'm done his run, all and all its good with only a few problems here and there. The biggest...Willoughby Kipling, dear LORD was he a whiney little bitch. Could they not have gotten the information about he coming apocalypses from literally ANYONE else?! Stop saying "Chin Chin" like a jack-ass and throw a fire ball or something!

Decided to pick up the new Star Lord series where he's grounded on earth.

It's okay. Obviously going for the beefcake audience. Good Wolverine moments in it, but then it's Old Man Logan, not Wolverine - also movie synergy is heavy in it.

Also, it's Marvel Prime now instead of 616. The writers finally won that argument post-Secret Wars 2015.

Yeah. Old Man Logan ended up in the main universe after Secret Wars. His book is actually decent. X-23 is running around in a Wolverine suit dealing with other Wolverine clones or clones of her? I'm not sure. Clone of clones.
