Movie News & Miscellany

I could see a good writer/director/art team make something out of it in the Wreck-it Ralph/Monsters Inc/Inside Out.

However, synergizing existing brand and leveraging opportunities to re-establish key trademarks and offer "imaginative" ways of allowing "major branding" of existing apps all point in the direction of "NOPE NOPE NOPE this will be a trash commercial vehicle ewww".

Everyone talked shit about PotC because it was a pirate movie. The genre was thought dead after Cutthroat Island BOMBED.
Wait, what? When did people talk shit about Pirates of the Carribean? The movie rocked, it made tons of money, and was praised quite a bit. It wasn't until the sequels that people turned on it.

Actually, gotta be honest here, I do remember, before PotC came out, that many people around here, possibly myself included, were incredulous that a movie was being made from a theme park ride. But yes, it all evaporated upon first viewing.

No, the internet and critical build up to the premier was pretty negative. Because it had a flimsy premise, based on an amusement park ride.

Remember they did Country Bears at the same time, and proved the critics and internet right.

I vaguely remember feeling the same way. I remember feeling a similar uncertainty with THE LEGO MOVIE, but that proved me wrong.

But those two are the rarity in a slew of movies that I figure will be terrible the moment I see the trailer.[DOUBLEPOST=1467058246,1467058200][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yeah, I realized after posting that that you guys were talking about the pre-release reactions. Sorry.

Don't forget Haunted Mansion. For every PotC and Clue there are plenty of stinkers like Haunted Mansion and Battleship.

Except Country Bears is actually an alright movie. It's basically Blues Brothers for furries. It doesn't deviate from the formula too much and it certainly doesn't do it as well, but they made something perfectly watchable and considering what they had to work with, it's amazing it turned out even that good.

Oh snap...Ralph is going to discover the internet is a thing...after being in a VERY closed arcade community for 30 years...please don't screw up this awesome idea Disney.

High hope for Ralph going onto a fan site going int EXTREME details about conspiracy theories about his game.

Ralph discovering Rule 34. Of him.

A video I kept meaning to post that was interesting (to me) relating to the impact of international box office vs domestic office on movies lately.
